That doesn't help you though. One is real and the other isn't. People like this retreat to games not because the world totally rejected them but because it's easy. If you spent that gaming time on an actual skill, hobby or self-improvement, you'd have way more women to choose from. Yes, women suck, but what do you have to offer?

Or maybe its that an increasing number of people are coming to the realization that they are easily replaceable in an increasingly interconnected and competitive world, that their deaths would be forgotten about in days and that the self is the only one who can truly love you unconditionally. After realizing those things as truth, there is no rational option except to live as selfishly as possible. Your good deeds are not appreciated and you are nothing but a vessel for other hedonists to take advantage of. Why not play video games all day provided you can get away with it?

@@camilalilimusic romance novels like fairy tales and romance movies brainwash women from a very early age to believe that there is a perfect man out there that is tall, extremely handsome, very rich but flawed and she will reform him and he will rescue her and he will love her unconditionally for the rest of his life. Of course, this is BS, but that paradigm is deeply ingrained into her mind for the rest of her life and unless she grows up and addresses the real world in her own mind it will lead to constant misery for her and any partner. I see it in many middle-aged women who still believe that there is a knight in shining armor or a deeply flawed man that if they just take him in and reform him he will morph like the frog into the prince. Very damaging.

@@camilalilimusic I disagree. I have watch this build for decades and it desensitizes women from the real world much like mass media photos of beautiful models in movies and magazines. At some point the girl next door is no longer good enough. The heroes of those novels are always billionaires, extremely handsome, tall, dashing, etc, etc. So the question is why do women have to escape into these stories, because the average and normal men around her are not good enough? Hero you never knew you were? The hero you’re still not, it’s virtual. Listen I’ve played video games since I was 7-8 and I’m currently 22. Up until this previous year I played religiously and I regret it. Video games aren’t a positive thing, it’s a filler for what you lack in the real world. My advice, quit asap and get out there and pick something to do that is actually going to positively affect your life, sports, social skills, relationships etc. Sure you might have poor skills at first but the fool is the precursor to the master. Just like you usually aren’t good at a new game but eventually you get better at it after continuous play. Some of y’all are so scared to try something new in real life, that you accredit fear,anxiety and depression in real life because you don’t know how to persevere in the real world. If not try and play in moderation and you’ll eventually see that video games are a waste of time.

Single father testimony here. I had the courage to divorce after a 20 years relationship that was getting really toxic in the end (those that sometimes end with a murder or a suicide), mostly because of our parenting disagreements. Our child was 9 years old at that time. In the last few years, i felt like she was slowly throwing our relationship and at the same time trying to control everything related to our son and his education. I also felt she was castrating me by interfering almost everytime i tried to discipline him (and there's no physical or psychological violence involved here, just basic discipline every child needs). Separated parents is not an ideal situation for a kid but still better than being exposed to bad and inconsistent parenting because we're always fighting. Also better than not having a father at all (for whatever reason) in those critical moments of childhood, i can tell because this was my case, and today i deeply understand that both parents are needed and have different things to transfer and teach to their child. Now my parenting duty is way easier, there is peace at home. My son simply understands that there has to be some kind of rules or limits to be able to live in harmony with others. I just explain simple rules based on my personal values, like: "Respect yourself and everyone else, no exception" or "Don't do to others what you wouldn't like to be done to you" etc..., and then he gets the point and i never have to repeat a hundred times or get angry for him to clean his shit or do his homework. He respects me and our environment so we have a lot of fun times together, and yes even some rough-and-tumble play sometimes. Of course it should be the same for the other parent too, but unfortunately it's not what i see happening in our case. His mother seems to have a really hard time with him and discipline, and i can't see this as a revenge on her because it would do no good for my child, but instead i back her up as much as i can and show him that i'm on her side when i need to. As for the video games addiction (or any kind of addiction), i don't think there's a problem as long as it doesn't prevent one from fulfilling his responsibilities or having a healthy lifestyle. So, i can relate to a lot of things being discussed here by incredibly interesting gentlemen, and i'm grateful for that because it reassures me that i did the right thing in sacrificing a long-term relationship to prioritize my parent role. I feel a strong connection with my son, i love being a father and it's never been easier. Thanks for sharing this great talk !

The solution is to stop fighting, not divorce and abandon your child. Honestly I wish we could hamdcuff bickering parents to each other until they learn to get along. You are adults, you can control yourselves. But instead you sold out your child and ruined their chances of developing normally because you and your wife are selfish, lazy and egotistical. For once I would LOVE to see someone in a failed marriage to admit that they divorced for themselves, not their child.

My significant other loves his video games and I let him play them whenever he wants. Why would I take something away that he loves or nag at him for enjoying his pastime? I wouldn't want him to take away something I love. I'm the softy, he's the strong one. That's how women and men were made...to balance each other out. We both believe in old school ways....I make him dinner, make his plate and make sure he has everything he needs and he makes sure I want for nothing. There's few of us out there like this and that's just sad. I do have to agree with most of the guys on the comments...most women nowadays want "equality" but when they get treated like a man they don't like it much do they?

When my wife and I first dated, she basically broke up with me because I made her plate. It freaked her out, she broke up with me by text...in the same vehicle...with her family...4 hours from our home town. Her mother asked if I was staying for dinner when we got back and I said, "no thank you, it was nice meeting you all, just talk to your daughter." Hahaha. We were 19 and 18 years old. Such an awkward car ride. I used to play video games, two kids changed that drastically. I no longer have time for hobbies nor do I set time aside for it. I have a fear that my kids will look back and remember the times I wasn't there to play, so I make sure that only work or illness causes those times to happen. Other wives get mad cause their husband's are always dodging family time, but their husband's don't want the responsibility and are immature and I am a nervous wreck fluke. I only drop below 80mph for traffic lights when leaving work to get my girls. My fear of being a shitty father makes me paranoid about my kids being the last two at daycare, so I rush to them. Its the unhealthy (for me) end of the spectrum of trying to overcompensate for my fears. I grew up in a split home with an abusive step father. My bio father was amazing but my resentful mother tried her hardest to keep me from him and insulted him openly. I saw him for alternating holidays no more than 60 days a year. I always say that I may not have a GOOD example of how to raise a child, but I know how not to. You're a great wife for understanding the give and take of marriage and not being selfish or wanting to take away things from his life that you don't like. Ya gotta pick your battles in marriage.

I damn agree and im a woman as well. The feminism was about equality back then, now is just hate the males we better wich is dumb. I just want to say im into gals and Id like to point that there will be this ofc lower number of women with this situation as well like me. Until this day of my life i prefer videogames over girls. Been a hell past relationships (and its been just 3 counting the one im at) even tho the girls i dated were into games too. The problem is most woman have this attitude just bc everything in society nowadays shows its the right way to be like this or expect men to do this for the women and this is totally wrong ending with their damn attitude being the true problem and my actual relationship is toxic and slowly sinking, its just so difficult to me to say its over im not that experienced in this stuff still but i hope really hope none my brothers meet someone that is this way, they have feelings just like everyone else does so they should be treated like we would want to be treated. They want you to change how they want at the end and i realized after 2 years of relationship, rn i dont talk to my friends, im scared of taking long doing chores or being with my fam or just not talk to her at her lunch time even tho work gets really busy just because at the end of the day is argue with her about it and try all i can so she stop being like this but its just damn exhausting and she expects me to do it like if its my obligation to cheer her up when by situations like work, fam or chores i cant be with her plus other awful attitude ive been into.

I think playing video games are a better habit than drinking, smoking or a drug habit. I play video games in moderation. It helps me unwind and is a form of escapism.
@Zwitchcore
@Zwitchcore 6 лет назад
if you play video games to unwind and use it as a form of escapism, then your doing the exact same thing as the drunk and the drug addict. the only difference here is that you're moderating your use, the drunk and the drug addict usually doesn't. questions is: if your life suddenly turned shit, would you still be able to moderate you video game use?
@freddyt9140
@freddyt9140 6 лет назад
Zwitchcore don’t think you can put this in the same category as an alcoholic or drug user? Playing games in moderation can’t be compared in my opinion. My escapism can be taken or left at any time. It’s not destructive in any way shape or form to me. Neither does it impede my personal well being or health.
@Zwitchcore
@Zwitchcore 6 лет назад
But like your saying, you are moderating your use. you can drink alcohol and do drugs without becoming an addict, as long as you keep moderating your use. but most addicts start out by doing drugs or alcohol, because they help them unwind and escape their reality. and then it goes from drinking and doing drugs in moderation to a more excessive use when life suddenly turns to shit. I've been doing drugs daily for 8 years now more or less, I can still manage to do all the basic stuff in the house and outside, and make sure I have an income to pay all the bills etc, but in truth the only reason I can this is because I'm moderating my drug use. my best friend doesn't do any drugs, doesn't drink or party, he simply plays video games. but he can't even manage to take a shower, do groceries, or make sure he has an income to pay his bills, and it's not like hes always been like that, but over the course of 10 years or so, his life just turned more and more to shit, and instead of doing something about it, he just isolated himself in front of the computer. which is why I'm saying: if you use video games to unwind and escape then your doing the exact same thing as the drunk and the drug addict, the only difference is that you are still properly moderating your use of video games.
@freddyt9140
@freddyt9140 6 лет назад
Zwitchcore I can see your point. I think the main thing is that it comes down to the individual. Some people have addictive personalities. Some can take drugs, drink or smoke but be in control without losing sight of more pressing priorities. Regardless of what your vice is, if you cannot control it, it will control you.
@asimplecephalon1632
@asimplecephalon1632 6 лет назад
I saw an interesting TED Talk about addiction. His research-based conclusion was that if you have lots of things you love doing outside the addiction (friends, love, career, etc.) you have an easier time moderating or quitting while someone who has a shit life easily falls into dependency.

This is the way this seventy-year-old great-grandma sees it. Before they retreated into video games they retreated into watching sports on TV. As young men they went out in the workforce and competed hard with other males every day and had a boss breathing down their necks expecting a certain level of performance. They went home to wives who also expected performance in many different areas. When there were young children and the wife was not working the man paid the mortgage, the utilities, bought every bit of food and clothing, paid for the wife's car and his own car. In the bedroom it was not his needs that were important but hers and satisfying them. He did all of the home maintenance and repair, car repairs and maintenance, and was the one as a rule who mowed the lawn. He's expected to do his share of household chores too and then he can go back to his stressful, competitive job on Monday. Christmas Day the house is beautifully decorated and so is the tree and it's loaded with presents. He gets a pair of socks and a tie. He is part of the patriarchy and he's blamed for every evil known to man for that reason. If his skin is white he's doubly despised. Yes, before men retreated into video games they were retreating into watching sports all day on TV on the weekends because they're exhausted. They get no gratitude and lots of blame. Now they've got Gillette commercials putting them down. Someone asked me recently if I could would I choose to be a male. I told them what I just told you. Oh hell no!

This was spot on with my life. Father and mother split when I was 6, which triggered us to move from the countryside to a big city to avoid father contact. Without any safety nets and only a motherly perspective of life, I was bullied and retreated into gaming (which became an addiction). Things were going downhill until I decided to reinvent myself for high school as I was fantasizing about violent acts. Changed schools, put a lot of effort into connecting with others, and having high grades. I was finally out of the problem during college by acing the entrance exams and having the choice to pick whichever I wanted. Looking back, I guess I just wanted to prove I amounted to something. But things went uphill from there, and now I have a wife, a 4-year-old son, and a successful career as an engineering manager. I still play games nowadays, especially when I'm stressed out, but I don't feel like I have to, and most of the time is some game my son wants me to play with him. I'm certainly not making this mistake with him.

From my perspective you grow up being told you aren't good at anything, that the only thing you'll amount too is dog-shit, knocking lumps out of you then proceeding to say "if you tell your mother I'll kill her and then your brother so you'll have no one, its incredibly easy and fairly satisfying to delve into a world where you have control over your actions, a world where YOU won't be put down and if you are you can beat the ever-loving shit out of the person who did it, where YOU are the focus, YOU are the person who can change the world, maybe it's rescuing a child from Hobbes in the Fable series, storming Point Du Hoc in Call of Duty 2, Sending the Covenant to their doom in the Halo series. Video games make YOU feel like YOU matter. Video games make YOU feel like YOU belong somewhere. Video games can make the load upon YOUR shoulders feel manageable. Video games can make YOU communicate when they can't talk most days. Video games can give YOU strength YOU never thought YOU had within YOU.

She also knows I love her dearly and give more hugs and encouragement, give her choice post her own feedback, ask her how her day went etc. She is an amazing mini human and I thank the universe she chose me to be her mum ♥️ What I got from the last 38mins was the reward post responsibility and how my possibly unstructured way may cause her ill feelings on the inside, rebelliousness, underachievement etc. I've replayed her words, past situations, past reaction. I have a better plan now. Thank you so much for your valuable insight gentlemen... My miracle baby and me will be so better off now ♥️ (miracle being I wasn't supposed to have kids - brain tumour at 25 years - 5.8cm anaplastic astrocytoma on front left lobe, Radio therapy left me with a burned pituitary. so when they were talking about rough and tumble play, mothers just don't understand why boys interact with each other in such ways. Story time: I got in big trouble at my karate school when I was 10, we were in line waiting for class to start when a much smaller boy bumped me. He's got this huge smile on his face and I give him a small hip bump back and minded my place in line. He bumps me again, again with a big smile. I take a huge step passed him and knock him back a step, he giggles and after I retake my spot in line he bumps me again, I repeat the action and send him back again and he laughs. His mother comes out of nowhere; freaking out and screaming about how 'this boy is body pushing my child, why is he doing this" and she had a hard time being talked down by our instructors and I was told off about contact. it felt so bizarre to me at the time because I felt I was correctly reading this Childs language yet his mother was so unaware. This kid wanted to test his limits and what he could get away with with a bigger boy, its just natural. and his laughter and such gave away that he knew he was breaking rules n wanted to play around a bit. I'll never forget how his mother shouted at the instructors tho.

Interesting and realistic observation that I myself have partially observed in many other areas with a little nuance. There is a lot of studies coming out recently on paired parentage and single parent effects and risks. If nature hadn't invested so much on two sexes, both parents may not be needed but we are social creatures driven by knowledge from the past. A homo sapien caveman of 10k years ago would probably wear a t shirt and jeans now with an IKEA home set in his 'bachelor cave' flat if brought suddenly into our time. It goes to show how much faster literature and knowledge can evolve a species compared to the natural evolution speeds. What parents impart on their kids is heavily influential and unlike old cultures where everybody's busines is everybody's business (tribal, nomadic, communal parenting), tech and economy has allowed even single parents to handle an entire family, but the communal parenting has faded. In a world where having 2 fathers, 3 mothers and 10 Grand parents no longer exists, like tyranny, dictatorship, any single point influence without a wider more embracing perspective and narrative will be detrimental to any family children growth. As social creatures we only work the best when responsibilities are shared rather than dominated. This has always been the case since Homo Sapiens evolved agriculture

Poor boy.... be prepared to be treated unjustly many, many times in your life. People in general act on what they see and perceive, in fact, since you are a person, you might do that yourself too. When I see a little kid being bumped around by a bigger kid, I might be inclined to react the same way as the instructors did. It happens all the time. On the other side of the story adults are blind to what mean stuff kids can do to each other. You knew the truth, the other kid did as well. As a kid you'll have a hard time convincing adults that no harm was done, but now you are a grown up (I guess). The same stuff will happen, people treating you unjustly. And since you are an acting grown up now, undoubtedly you'll do the same to other people every now and then (if you deny that, start thinking). I hope that now you are well enough equiped to deal with situations like that, explain, fight back or forgive and learn. It's just life buddy, nothing else here......

something like that happened to me. I used to be a baseball player, and i was pretty good. Had a mean arm on me. I was pitching and smoked this kid who honestly probably only weighed like 100 pounds. Hit him right on his ribcage. He collapsed instantly and started screaming in pain. I don't know why but my first instinct was to laugh.... Thinking back on it now it obviously wasn't funny. But the intensity of the situation got to me and i couldn't take it. As i am laughing the mom is in the stands and starts SCREAMING "you think that is funny hitting my kid with the ball like that"! She probably said more but i don't remember. The kid got taken off the field and to this day i wish i would have thrown the ball just a little bit harder. Just to see the mom get REALLY angry.

Craig Sips nothing wrong with that..I do the same...but man who live only for video games.... I'll go further than that a man who's cat is his..is a loser cause he wasted his life... It's like having a Lamborghini mercialargo and you never drive it above 2 miles per hour then it's destroyed...that's a wast....play games love game but don't let games be the highest esteam of your life... I can talk about my experience. What drives me toward games are: - Adventures , my life is quite plain and I'm too introverted/broke to make it spicy as I would like. - Dreamfull relationships outcome. I generally have the sympathy of all people I meet irl, but in games it's different ... allies esteem and respect me as a champion, enemies fear me, and any possible romantic interest eventually fall for me. Sure they have no the depth of real relationships but still the outcome is so idyllic to hypnotize. - A world without errors and with unlimited possibilities, there are not bad choices which will fuck the rest of your life. Any meaningfull choice can be reverted, or resetted eventually in the future to pursue the outcome you most desire. - You can be what you want. You wanna be a sage ancient old mage? Fine. An amazon woman hunting ferocious beasts? Sure. A proud templar knight? Here you go. And so on, you don't have to stick to 1 persona, you can change drastically what you are and how you behave and no one will ever come at your door saying? Why are you behaving in this way? What's up your mind? - Power/money. The power to do whatever you want, however you want, and the money to get whatever your hearth could desire. There is nothing you can't do and nothing you can't get. -Accomplishment, any game of success is structured in a way to let you feel a sense of quick progression, of evolution in a very short window of time. That feeling is very great, especially for lazy people when confronted to long sessions of effort for laughable results. And more in general: You are never out of place, you are not just someone in the world, it's the world which adapts to you and change according to your wishes in order to satisfy your needs. The feeling is unappeasable but you never have to forget that no matter of marvelous and comfy this world is, it's just a beautifull lie. The real world is outside, and if you keep ignoring it, eventually it will present the bill, and you must hope you'll be able to pay it.

It's sort of like with the (statistically very few) psychopaths and shooters who turn out to be into video games or Marilyn Manson or whatever; if it wasn't the video games or the music, it would have been something else, they weren't the cause, they were the outlets. Same thing here, perfectly normal, functional people can play video games and watch porn (even a lot of both) and not really have a big issue, where people with preexisting issues can easier lose themselves to this. Speaking as one of those preexisting issue people now with a pretty heavy porn+videogame addiction that is.

Great point!If one had normal life,strong implemented mindset by his father figure,great childhood without anxiety,depression,ocd it seems unlikely he would be opsessed with the video games.Video games are just escapism habit.If i had normal childhood,and became strong personality,facing every next challenge life has offered with the smile on my face i would never get deeply into the video games and waste 5 years of my life escaping from the reality.I woke up in my 22.I want to face the life while im still young.The real reason why i get back to the League of legends is when im unable to control my ocd.If i had no ocd in the first place i would be happier,fullfiled person and be able to look into the future.Somethime id like to restart time,to be born again and raised properly...If i had that perfect girl(she likes me a lot but i dont want her to be influenced with my personality so i keep her on the distance.I want her to truly find someone who is larger then life,someone curageous..i can be that person but not in the long run,ill fall again).

"Retreating" into videogames??? Would you also use the word "retreating" when referring to people who go see every major blockbuster in the theater? (even though they look all the same) Or for people who travel to foreign countries just to take selfies in front of famous monuments? Not different from music or books, for me videogames are ART, and most importantly keep your mind active and in the present moment. There are new evidences being shown in research revealing even trauma-healing powers through the use of videogames. Most men joking at videogames are the ones who retreat into the "wife, 2 kids and a dog" program, their bellies are big, their eyes look desperate and their cups are filled with alcohol every night after work in order to cope with their inescapable fate.

Because it's an incredibly gratifying means of escapism. Most mediums prior to the advent of video games (books, film, music, plays, etc.) were about you being an observer to the story. Video games make you the one who acts in the story. You make decisions that can affect the trajectory of the world your avatar inhabits. And often those worlds are far more intriguing and engaging than the one we currently live in. It's not just about the increasing hostility towards males or towards "toxic masculinity". This world has lost its soul so many men, and also quite a few women, look to games to find the purpose and emotion this shell of a society lacks.

I am an explorer by nature. There is nothing left to explorer. But there is one place, one frontier that is inexhaustible, infinite in the capacity for exploration. The final frontier isn't space, it is the frontier of the human imagination. Books, film, and video games are product of other people's imagination, a frontier I can explore. For the first time in human history, video games give us the ability to interact with another person's (or team of people) imagination. Who wouldn't venture boldly into that frontier to explore it?

I'm 28 (Male) my father was taken out of my life before I was 1 by my mother for reasons I will probably never know. She worked all the time to try and keep things afloat and I just kind of existed. I can't remember a time when I was not deeply depressed and have been hospitalized twice in my life for suicide attempts. To this day the idea of working for something good that may take a while terrifies me because all I can see is this monumental path to success which is just impossible to traverse. I dropped out of high school and got my GED later because i had no real interest or drive in much of anything at that age. I spent years in college bouncing around from class to class trying out things and never defining a major or a goal because again the path to anything seemed daunting and I just had no real drive or interest. I wanted to do better and improve myself or else I never would have taken the steps to even try college let alone stay for years but want and capability are two different things. I can't hold down a job because again it has little meaning to me and the second pressure if applied i lose sight of all meaning and start to break down. The second that job goes from "I'm trying to improve my life and take responsibility for myself" and is twisted by a lot of just sadness and hate into a monster where the only positive thing i can say about it is "I have to do this to help the family, to pay a bill to do something for someone else" because I see no value in myself or doing things for myself I become unstable. I just become so tired and everything turns a meaningless grey. This talk rings true because I've personally experienced a lot of what they said but unlike many people some even here in these comments I was not able to just overcome and be successful. Which is to be expected sometimes; Not every story has a happy ending. I can identify whats wrong but dragging myself out of that muck is something I've not been able to do but not for a lack of trying. The scary part is that Yes I do play video games almost religiously and they are probably the only past times in my life where I feel happy allocating time to them. When I was younger I would unconsciously say "well playing them makes me feel good because at least there I can be successful and work my way up to something and know that I am not only appreciated by those around me but sometimes even praised for doing a good job." It is like I was on auto-pilot just telling myself what was wrong with my life and not even thinking about it. There is so much more story and detail but my point is that on a fundamental level I agree with the ideas put forward here. I'm just sharing this in a youtube comment section because I really wanted to type this out and have someone, anyone see it. But I also know that I will never come back to this post so I have full impunity to do what I will. Also expecting the average "TL:DR" or "You're pathetic, get up and work!" responses.

I think there's a lot of truth to this especially what you said regarding discipline. My mother was the one who was always screaming in the house my father was a very quiet controlled man. I could have cared less about listening to my mother scream, but when my father was upset with me he would barely say a word. that meant more to me than anything.

Yes, and I also agree with the need for rough and tumble play. My dad did that with us and it made mom aggravated. It is some of my best memories of him.

Similar situation with my dad. He hardly ever raises his voice or shows he's displeased. He's pretty easy going compared to my mom who is more frequently the opposite of easy going lol. That's why when my dad does raise his voice or is not proud (there may be a better way to say not proud but idk what that phrase is atm) it stands out and really makes me do a double take on my actions and the way I view myself.

@@hariman7727 the fact that people don't show their true colors while dating (for the most part) might also be a contributing factor. Personally I play video games for the sake of self satisfaction or where you can make your own characters by designing facial features and being a specific kind of way and to make the character you made really overpowered (referring to open world mmo’s) and be something you really couldn’t be in the real world........

Because LIFE is also a game, I game with unfair rules, where competition has turned into "You dont have level 250 from start of game? I win." And its not like if you did have that experience to reach those absurd/artificial standards you'd win anything of value. Reward for it is you get to grind more day after day, forever. Like a bad MMO, slave to grinding, cuz you met the already inane qualifications for which the reward is more work and grind = get artificial money to LEND goods and a house till you can't afford to pay the rates anymore (whether house is on mortgage or bought with case, doesnt matter)

Men have forgotten what it means to be men and I'm not referring to acting like a bunch of rabid dogs, the relationship between men and women has deteriorated.. We need to be smarter as a society. My generation isn't here to fix the screw ups of the previous generation and we are creating a toxic environment for future generations. These things should be taken seriously but my absolute biggest turn off is this "hook up" culture, it is extremely unhealthy..
