I agree. When there is a non-zero chance of a105 mph line drive to the twig and berries, having some crotch armor might sound like a good idea. But then again, the way pitchers contort their bodies, the friction of the cup around the sensitive area would probably irritate the skin that doesn't like being irritated.

One of my Bronco League (10-11yo) coaches was apparently playing in a Softball league in his spare time and was out for a bit after taking one to the gonads and losing a nut. He came back later on, and in that first game back, he parked a lawn chair down the left field line past the infield when I was playing LF. For one batter he told me to move deep, and I made one of the greatest long haul catches that season, perhaps of all time.

I didn't lose a nut in this but I was assistant coaching a 12U team and my son was a pitcher. First practice I got there early with him because he wanted to do some throwing. My son was probably in the 70mph range when he was 12 so he could move the ball pretty well for his age. Not super fast but quick enough to do some damage. I was in the crouch, no gear on of course because I'm an idiot when a kid walks up and asks if this is where the 12Us were meeting for the first practice. I didn't know all the kids at this point and he was a newbie to the team. I held up my right hand to my son and turned my head to tell the kid, 'Yeah, this is the place.' Next thing I know, BAM, right in the mommy and daddy buttons. My son wasn't paying attention and didn't see me raise my hand. I guess he was doing his Fernando Valenuela impression or something but he pegging a fastball right into my junk. I'm rolling around on the ground just unleashing a torrent of obscenities that no 12 year old should hear while my son was laughing his ass off. Luckily it grazed my thigh before being directed into my sack otherwise I probably would have made a trip to the emergency room. Needless to say I didn't do any more catching without 'protection' and my son got to run a few poles since he decided to fire in the ball without acquiring his target first. Later on the kid, who turned out to be our catcher during the season, complained about having to wear a cup because it was uncomfortable. I asked him if he remembered the first day of practice. He laughed and said, 'Oh yea.' I reminded him that what happened to me is the reason you wear a cup and if he didn't he wouldn't play.

I hit my tball cosch in the nuts with a 20 mph hit and he dropped like a rock saying it was the most painful thing ever,even more than when he was swarmed by hornets after trying to destroy their nest. I can’t even imagine how much pain this pitcher was in and finishing the play was unbelievable. Most people have gotten kicked in the nuts and after you just want to lay on the ground for an hour but this pitcher got hit with a baseball at 105 mph and still made the play, that dedication.

I’m assuming you’re a woman, so the way I would explain it is to imagine an excruciating pain down there, followed by the most intense feeling of nausea you’ve ever experienced that wells up from your groin to the bottom of your ribcage. You’re in so much pain that everything inside you wants to be outside you. And there’s nothing you can do about it but lay there and wait while it very slowly subsides over the next ten minutes or so (if you’re lucky). Not fun. Not fun at all.
