I think because of all his emotional and physical pain, the song was more deeply felt and was imbued with the sorrow and love and pain, that made it all the more deeply felt by us, the listener. If you haven't seen the video, it's a must see for all you can see on his face, such a sad but beautiful quality

Wendy, truer words were never spoken! We're so blessed we get to listen to Steve Perry, this amazingly talented man. " When You Love a woman" this song, with the orchestra, Jonathan's piano, Steve Smiths drums, Neal's guitar, and Steve's vocals, his long beautiful hair flying as he puts his passion into it, truly does get deep down in your soul and yes, just rests there. this song was released 1996. My wife and i married in 1997 (24 years strong now), and this was the song we chose to be our first dance as a married couple. I remember signing softly in her ear along with this. My mom said it was a beautiful moment and she could hear me singing from across the floor. This song always reminds me of my wife. Thanks for reacting to it.

There is so much truth in this one. I had to learn it by myself. I have been married to my high school sweetheart since 1981, so it will be 41 years this May. We got into a nasty fight one night and she left for a little while. While she was gone I closed my eyes and tried to imagine what it would be like without her in my life. You know what I saw? Nothing! A big black, blank screen! That's when I knew I had to change me and how I was living to keep this beautiful women in my life. This was at a time when I was struggling with severe PTSD, I'm a combat Veteran. But through all the crap she had to go through to keep me alive and somewhat sane, she stayed. I think that might be why I listen to Bee Gees "I could not love you more" and Alabama "There's no way" pretty much on a daily basis. Thank you for doing this song. Makes me want to love her more (if that's possible) and makes me want to be a better man.

Fun (not-so-fun) Fact ....... This album 'Trail By Fire', was a BIG REUNION for the Journey. As they were getting ready to go on a world tour. Steve went to Hawaii, to get ready. While he was hiking, he started to feel pain in his hip. Turns out that he needed to get major surgery. So while making this video, he was in ALOT of pain!! That during breaks he had to put ice on his hip!! Sadly this is what cause the band broke away from 'The Voice'! They wanted to move on, and he needed to make sure that surgery is what was needed and so forth!! Please react to 'Mother Father' live in Houston, Tx!!!! Also ....... 'Patiently, Still She Cries, It's Just The Rain, Message Of Love (a rockin' song), Open The Door, Ask The Lonely (another rockin' song), Feelin' That Way/Anytime (shared vocals with former keyboardist Greg Rolie)!!! Glad you're on this amazing Journey!!!

That was when I lost respect for the remaining members of the band. A lot more of that respect was lost when they released the Revelation album. The reason being is it was a 2 disc CD, and the second desk was all of their hit songs re-record it with Arnel Pineda. Perform those songs on stage, don’t re-record them. That is one of the most disrespectful things you could do to a former member.

And you're right, that was sooooo disrespectful to do!! My understanding is that they do more Classic Journey, than the newer songs they have. My journey has been over since 1996

I’ve felt that pain. 54 and 2 hip replacements 13 years apart. The pain is unreal and I had to live with it for literally 5 years before my second surgery. But, 8 weeks later, I was fully recovered and walking better than ever.

Devin. I married my guy almost 37 years ago and we have been thru it all family, serving God, military, helping people...and it is one right decision I made...I am forever grateful to God for His grace and Mercy to me and to our marriage...it has not been easy to be married this long, raise 2 kids and 3 grandkids...GOD HAS BEEN GOOD TO US THRU THE GOOD AND THE BAD...we are still here, we survived severe covid...cherish your wife and serve/honor God...nothing else is worth your time

Steve Perry is truly amazing! Another singer whose lyrics and melodies are just as amazing is Don Henley of the Eagles. He had a very successful solo career in the 80s. Start with The End of the Innocence (my fav), Last Worthless Evening, Dirty Laundry, The Heart of the Matter, Boys of Summer, New York Minute and so many more
