Judas Priest are the inventors of heavy metal as we know it today! They took the baseline that Black Sabbath created and molded it into a very focused metallic sound! Let me know how you rank these albums!

"Painkiller" will never not rock my god-damn soul. In my opinion one of the best metal albums of all time. "Screaming For Vengeance" is veeeery close behind though.

Painkiller is an undisputed classic no doubt, but I honestly really love Jugulator. I don't understand what everyone has against it. It has alot of energy and drive behind it, aggression, grit and power. Judas Priest pulled off the whole 90's metal thing really well with Jugulator and they could have taken the nu metal route and it would have sounded awful so I'm glad they stuck with the traditional heavy metal style and upped the ante. Jugulator burns like molten metal fire!

Still need to go through many other priest albums so I only have enough listening experience to do a top 5 1. Painkiller 2. Firepower 3. Screaming for vengeance 4. Sad wings of destiny 5. Stained class

Guys stepped outta their comfort zone and refused to become AC/DC of heavy metal. The only flaws are slow tempo, too long songs and vad production buuut lyrically the best job since Sin After Sin album

@@davidknichal6629 I love AC/DC! Not one single bad album in their amazing catalog - much like Judas Priest. Both bands are in my top 5 of all time. But yeah, I love "Nostradamus" just like their other stuff. Halford still does an amazing job as always!

Great list! My #1 will always be "Painkiller". It's just such a crushing album from start to finish. And I agree with you that it's Rob's greatest vocal performance in the entire Priest catalog. He really stays in that high, operatic register for a solid portion of the album, and it's a thing of beauty. I'd have the most recent album "Firepower" right there at #2. It's that good! Maybe some day, I'll try to do a ranking of their full discography, but there are so many great albums, I have no clue how I'd accomplish it! "Jugulator" is a fantastic album, by the way. Rock on!

You’re in for a surpriiiise... haha, my ranking is even more controversial, but you spoke my exact thoughts on many of your picks and I’ll elaborate on that after my ranking: 1. Firepower 2. Sad Wings 3. Stained Class 4. Killing Machine 5. Painkiller 6. Sin After Sin 7. Point Of Entry 8. Defenders Of The Faith 9. Screaming For Vengeance 10. Turbo 11. British Steel 12. Angel Of Retribution 13. Redeemer Of Souls 14. Ram It Down 15. Rockarolla 16. Demolition 17. Nostradamus 18. Jugulator Elaboration: I find British Steel to be one of the most overrated albums ever. Don’t hate it, but like you said, it’s really basic and kinda boring. You said that the second half of Defenders lost you after a phenomenal first half, and that’s also my experience with that album and Painkiller. Regarding the latter, it’s an impressive record, but I find it a tad overrated because of a couple of forgettable deep cuts. And in my ears Metal Meltdown is rather noisy. Jugulator had an identity but was an unpleasant listen for me, whereas Demolition was all over the place but with a couple of bangers (Feed On Me slaps), but Metal Messiah is my pick for JP’s worst song. Turbo and Point Of Entry are awesome, very consistent and fun records. Firepower is hands down the most perfect heavy metal record I’ve listened to! Every song kicks ass with awesome riffs, big choruses or both. I could listen to it on repeat without getting tired of it.

Absolutely agree about "Firepower". It's my #2 right behind "Painkiller", but not by much. Amazing from start to finish. "Lone Wolf" is a crushing tune with a fantastic groove to it. There's not a single weak song on the album, and it will be looked at as a cornerstone in the metal genre one day in the distant future.

good rankings! totally agree with you about British Steel-although I think it's important for them in that it shaped their style, paving the way for Screaming and Defenders. my only difference is that I put Sin After Sin at the top of my favs, followed by Sad Wings and Painkiller. but really until the much maligned TRO took over the vocals (the poor guy's only fault is he's not Rob Halford imo), Priest never made a bad album.

My personal ranking: Top six: Sad Wings Of Destiny, Stained Class, Screaming For Vengeance, Painkiller, Redeemer Of Souls, Firepower Not concrete: Sin After Sin, Killing Machine, British Steel, Point Of Entry, Defenders Of The Faith, Turbo, Ram It Down, Angel Of Retribution Bottom four: Rocka Rolla (the debut - not a terrible album, but not the Judas Priest you know), Nostradamus (great concept, and admire the ambition, but the execution was a mess: should have been a single disc), Jugulator and Demolition (Ripper Owens did a tremendous job on vocals, but these were a mess: both should have been cut by about a third, or combined into a single album)

Priest I only started getting DEEP into very early 2020. They are kinda hit or miss honestly. They have amazing albums and SHIT records as well. 18 Nostradamus (Disaster) 17 Demolition (Fucking horrible but not 2 Hours long) 16 Rocka Rolla (Not a good debut at all) 15 Turbo (Hate most glam metal, besides the 1st 2 tracks I don’t like this) 14 Point of Entry (The rest I can enjoy but this was ok) 13 Redeemer of Souls (Way better than Nostradamus but that production is poor, but it’s ok) 12 Ram it Down (Its a pretty ok album but It could have been WAYYYY better. that Chuck Berry Cover was ATROCIOUS) 11 Defenders of the Faith (Their Most overrated, LOVE the 1st side but slowly loses me on the 2nd side, but good album) 10 Angel of Retribution (Honestly was a Very good comeback album) 9 British Steel (Again overrated, but it also has so many great classics and is more consistent than Defenders of the Faith) 8 Jugalator (Honestly is their most underrated album) 7 Sad Wings of Destiny (Starting to reach the albums I consider Great) 6 Killing Machine (When they really started to become Heavy Metal, and it’s a Great Album) 5 Sin After Sin (The Most underrated record of their early era, phenomenal) 4 Screaming for Vengeance (Classic Record for a great reason Incredible Album) 3 Firepower (One of the best Heavy Metal albums of the 2010s and EASILY their best since Painkiller) 2 Stained Class (Masterpiece) 1 Painkiller (One of my favorite albums of all time)

I've never heard a Judas Priest album in full and even tho I'm a super nova massive metal fan I've never wanted too. I would say that bands such as Motorhead are much more important (and cooler) than Priest as I've heard lots of metal bands from the 80's and 90's class them as influences where the Priest don't get mentioned.

Seriously? Priest (and Maiden) were huge in the 80s and lots of really important bands class them as influences, massive groups like Metallica, Slayer, Pantera or Helloween to name a few. In fact, Judas Priest was probably the band which shaped heavy metal as we know it the most (high pitched vocals, twin guitars, the leather and spikes look...). The thing with Motorhead is that they crossover genres, they were metal and punk and rock n roll at the same time, so their influence goes beyond hard rock/metal. Priest is way underrated by the younger generations, but their importance in the metal scene is undeniable. You may like them or not, but if you never try listen to them you're missing a huge part of heavy metal history.
