I would like to describe my jury experience i was seated with the jury to hear a case of a man who stole a 5 Dollar pair of sunglasses. And to add he was a career criminal who defended himself. We had to sit all day for this? After our verdict the judge came in to thank us for our service . The jury forperson asked the judge why did we have to take a day of our time for something that minor ? The judge said he understands our annoyance but he was intitaled to his day in court. I received another jury summons and I have in no uncertain terms a disere to serve. If they want us to serve on jurys then can someone tell me why they can't pay you? And im not talking about the 9 dollars they pay you for a day lost at work. Im talking your hourly wage or at least 70 percent. I do not get paid for being off for jury duty . I have bills due that need paid and as far as payment goes why is it everyone involved in the trial gets paid but not the jury the most important part of the trial? The say serve on a jury and do your civic duty . Well voting is considered civic duty ss why is you can go through your entire life without voting and not be punished but if you don't want to serve on a jury you are punished? Myself I'm trying to survive in this world and have more important things to get done than waste time with a so called civic duty. I pay taxes that's my civic duty.
If you were charged with a crime that you feel you didn't commit wouldn't you want a jury to hear your case or let the arresting police officer decide?
Even if you are not trying to get out of jury duty, mention jury nullification to them during the voir dire--or even on your questionnaire. People sentenced to jury duty have a right to know they have a right to vote out of their own conscience regardless of what the law and evidence says.
Make juries voluntary or have people who are on state assistance or unemployment serve . They are receiving help from the state so they can repay the state back through civil duty. Leave people who are trying to make a living out of it.
You may be called upon for jury duty if you have voter reg., drive a car, or have a state I.D. You have to be 18+ yrs. of age, a U.S. citizen, and a resident of your county to be called for jury duty. I've been summoned. You'll likely EVENTUALLY be summoned if you are a citizen. Is it typical that juries do not handle family law cases in other counties as well?
