Just how fast can you go on a recumbent trike? We take an awesome ride through the rain and the country. How does a trike help someone with a disability? We explain that too.

Bravo! Keep ride! This is precisely what recumbents were designed for to keep people riding and exercising who otherwise couldn't. Stop worrying about how fast you're moving and just enjoy the feeling. Ride safe.

From one MS’er to another. “Don’t lose it.” 👍

Thank you kindly. 😊 That's the goal. If MS would just keep at bay. Sometimes over doing it reminds me to slow down.

Positive energy to you, keep on riding and don’t give in to MS. How fast is a trike? Mostly depends on the rider. Type of trike also influences speed. For me on my Catrike Dumont I can cruise all day around 17, 18 mph. I can push it to 30 mph, for a short sprint. To me, riding a trike takes about the same effect as riding a mountain bike with street tires. On a Catrike 700, their racing trike, I clocked out at 32.8mph, it’s a lot of fun but it’s also a harsh ride. I much prefer the Dumont with its full suspension, is much easier on my body. (Sorry I sound like a commercial, but I really really like this trike. Age and old injuries coming back to haunt me put me off biking. This trike gave me back the joy of riding without pain.) One more thing 23mph is a respectable speed, well done.

Chocolate gets along with many other foods and has few enemies. It does have a nemesis though, they never compliment each other, ketchup.

Haha...I love the ketchup ending. I feel like I'm playing ketchup this year since back surgery. Trying yo get back into riding my recumbent.

Hello totally enjoyed your video. Love to see the sunny weather. I live in St George Utah. Commute for work in salt lake. Driving home this weekend I drove down highway 89 instead of I-15. Didn't know they had a great big bike trail at the Big Rock Candy mountain. I think you too when and if you get a chance before winter or an early spring should look into this bike trail. It's quite long but one of the most beautiful rides I've ever had. Thanks again I love showing your videos to my daughter she's got some health issues. She has good days and bad but you always encourage her thank you. Like to give you a run for the money on that 23 miles an hour though. But at age 62 you might you might beat me. I'm just an old truck driver a little bit overweight but love my trike. Thanks for sharing your outings you really keep me inspired. Have a great weekend bye-bye for now Wendell

Thank you for the wonderful comments. Truly grateful that you found value in our video. Tell your daughter to never give up. Bad days happen here too, that's why don't get videos uploaded all the time but, we will keep going! Great to have a new St. George friend following along, we love it there!

I’m actually impressed that you hit 23mph. You only have a single up front and the 8 speed prop. around 11-32 in the back. On the 406/20” wheel, you maxed out the gearing. By that, I mean You could prob. push faster, but the trike topped out on gears. I’m sure if you tried the same run with your wife’s trike (properly fitted of course), You could hit 26/27mph. Thank you for sharing with us.

I have the same trike I ordered mine with a nuvinci 360 internal gear for the rear wheel (26") which I have changed it to a 1000 watt rear electric hub motor (26") and it really helps with going up hills which is about the only time I try to use it to save the battery. But I believe the Typhoon comes with a 24" rear wheel as standard and I believe if you change that rear wheel to a 26" you should gain a higher top speed with no other modifications 😉

Is that a Schluph HSD on the front of your Typhoon? I've been reading about those lately. Did it come with it or was it added later? If later, do you feel your speed has improved with it?
@adventureswithdisabilities
@adventureswithdisabilities Год назад
It is actually not a schluph HSD. Im using the stock crankset for the typhoon. Thanks for checking out the video.

there are better Schwalbe tires than the BigApple.. These never go flat/get puncture: BigBen PLUS, BigApple PLUS. And the ultimate is the Schwalbe Marathon PLUS.. Plus means it is Ebike rated to 25 or 50kph.. And these are 100% puncture proof and i have ridden over 6k miles on the same Marathon PLUS tires. :) Thanks for the tire changing demo..

Thank you. That's amazing info. We will check it out and look to switching. We Have tons of thorns and goatheads on the sides of roads here. It always punctures tires.

So more importantly, what's an average speed without putting everything you've got into it? I always thought the recumbent bike was designed for rider comfort but watching videos of them gives me the impression that they are cumbersome and awkward.
@adventureswithdisabilities
@adventureswithdisabilities Год назад
They're pretty comfortable and give you stability in your back. Speed depends on where you are riding. On a flat road you can get up to 18 without pushing it. It's harder to push due to the extra weight of the bike.
@waynegilchrist1596
@waynegilchrist1596 Год назад
@@adventureswithdisabilities thank you. That sounds quite reasonable. As my age out runs my physical health, I have to look at giving up traditional modes of transport and seek more viable alternatives to both transportation and exercise.
@adventureswithdisabilities

You'll probably really enjoy it. Most of them fold down for easy storage and for traveling with. It's great if you have balance issues.

I think your knee should be flatter and you shouldn’t be bending your knee > 90 degrees her bike needs more chain

The speed is irrelevant without comparison to other bikes you tried this on as will be dependant on your strength.
