Loadshedding used to frustrate me a lot, not so much nowadays. I saw it as an opportunity to really talk and bond with my kids over a candle lit dinner 😊 no WIFI for 2hours so devices are put away. They talk with no interruptions and I like that opportunity to just be. I've also started reading more, when they are asleep I usually take a book and read. I guess we can all find a silver lining to this awful loadshedding situation. Love always 🌱🍃
South African Winter ❄️ isn't bad as American Winter ❄️, if you want to enjoy more during winter, visit Limpopo or Mpumalanga (Nelspruit) or Northern Cape or North West.
Durban doesn't have practically winter and Limpopo is hot as well. The coldest time is Mid July to Mid August. From Autumn the house is cold but usually like you said there's sun outside where you can be warm to get vitamin D
Lovely update, enjoy your trip to see your family. Hopefully load shedding will be a thing of the past in the next couple of years, plans are in place by the Joburg City Council and national government to finally deal with the situation.
Load shedding started in 2008.I know history. In 1997 Eskom engineers approached SA new government to build more power stations.Government turned them down. But in 2007 President Mbeki regretted it but it was too late.Eskom management used to be run by whites. When black management took over in year 2000 I read Sunday Times business section, Eskom was number 10 in the world,No 1 was Japan.Where did it go wrong?
I'm glad that you are honest about our country. But the government is working on the loadsheding issue, there will be Private companies providing electricity. In the past, the law did not allow private companies to produce electricity but they have just passed the Bill to allow private companies to produce electricity. Our electricity capacity was built by white minority to serve them only, but when the black government came into power, the economy has grown for almost thousands times, and more black people got access to electricity, because companies were growing and demand for more electricity increased, that has significantly contributed to loadshedding. I'm glad you have your Gas Heater, you will be fine and normally the electricity is out for like 2.5 hours. I like the fact that you are a Jozi girl.
Asha, you must go down to Venda and check it out up there. You can get a stand own there and build your own beautiful house with very belittle money and live entirely free
We South Africans hate laodhshedding too and we are still adjusting too Aunt Asha…it’s awful and clear SA government incompetence. Hope it’s resolved within the next 3 years. Glad you’re still enjoying South Africa…you seem so chilled and content 💕
Happy birthday in Advance Chomie🎊🎉🎂🍰🥂🍸🍾🎁💃💃💃❤️❤️. We all hate loadshedding but it won't be here forever.you know we never had this problem before . It started few years ago. But don't stress soon it will be the thing of the past.
@@ashameanslife5963 Eish Joburg weather is like this it is cold all the time . I am from Durban I am not used to the cold weather.its a struggle but we still love Jozi
Happy Birthday Month!! And thanks for the update, Asha. We are living your wonderful Africa experience vicariously. Be careful on your in-country travel; I heard about the flooding just outside of Durbin. My prayers go out to all those affected. You've gotta get your U.S. peeps to join you in J-burg. (That's my plan when I move to the Continent. My peeps are on notice. LOL!!)
Loadshedding shouldn't be a problem for a country as advanced and progressive as SA is, we're just being abused by big business that benefits when R250 million of diesel has to be burned each day of loadshedding. These big businesses fund ANC leaders in order to secure lucrative contracts while we have to endure loadshedding.Asha, get a small inverter/solar system once you get your own place just to cover your for the two hours or so of loadshedding.Happppppppppy in advance for the 28th 🙌🏾♥️🇿🇦.
Happy Birthday Asha! How frequent is the loadshedding; 1-2x a month? And how far in advance do you get the notice; a day or two before? You seem to be adjusting well; so happy for you!
Thank youuuuuu!💕🤗💕 Times and duration of loadsheddig can vary...the media will broadcast a few days prior...then I'll get a direct email each day indicating the hours. Usually no more than 2 1/2 hours...sometimes twice a day for up to a week...every few months. Im told this is something fairly new in this country and it shouldn't last too long.
@@ashameanslife5963 Thank you; I can live with that! One last question (I know you're busy, so I appreciate your responses!): As a person over 50 here in the states, it's hard to make friends; the older you get, the more invisible you are. Are you running into a lot of older folks? Would be nice to see a video on how we're treated over there.
@@sandrasgotvoice I see everyone here...grandparents or older people are still very much revered in the African household and very much respected in the public as well. I don't know if you have any restrictions or disabilities that you would require extra care but you could hire someone to assist you...keep in mind SA is not "cheap" but it's more affordable than the US. I'm from California so I would compare it with living in the south...Alabama for example. I think that because of the deteriorated state of a lot of our communities in the US, it may cause older people to stay inside which could lead to loneliness... If you're a introvert like me, I suggest volunteering and join social meet up groups to meet good people. For me, living here feels and reminds me of a time in the US when we had thriving businesses, two parent households and lots of extended family and friends. A time when we looked out for one another...and it truly warms my heart.💕🌍💕
