Great interview and information. Thank you to both. Just a little constructive word of advice for film producer, please put a windscreen on your mics. Will help a great deal with distracting wind noise.
We use Blue Buffalo grain free. Augmented with occasional egg, chicken and fish. Dogs are primarily meat eaters, but not entirely. When they make a kill in the wild they first eat the stomach, internal organs and intestines. The reason for this is they need the nutrients from what they prey had consumed. This in most cases is vegetation.
Repeatedly, wolves and coyotes have been documented removing the stomach contents before eating the stomach of their prey. The nutrients that you speak of are in the small intestine and already digested way beyond what a dog would be able to do. By the time the dogs consume it, it is already digested to the point that it could no longer be considered vegetation. And by that I mean, the cell walls are broken down, something that a dog is entirely incapable of. In the wild, wolves are carnivores, through and through. Generally, a wolf's stomach contents will be under 3% plant matter, which is what one would expect from a few mouthfuls of grass.
Awesome Rico looks like such a amazing dog, I can not wait until I can afford a personal protection dog. I these days of gun control and government tyranny a warrior dog is a great alternative.
