@@treyowen9213 I think she had cancer but I am not sure. I know they were in the middle of filming the 5th season of the Sarah Jane Adventures when she passed away.
We can read in her autobiography that Elisabeth Sladen had various bad experiences making K9 and Company, and in particular never liked working with K9. Her comment on finding out that K9 and Company would be stopped after the initial episode: “On the plus side: at least I’d never have to set eyes on that bloody dog again!” Though of course she was fated to see the bloody dog again repeatedly in later years.
“Where are you from, K9?” “From the Doctor.” “From the Doctor?” “Affirmative.” “Well, you can’t mean the Doctor.” “My precise meaning, Mistress, a gift to you.” Sarah’s face changes completely in that moment.
I love this scene. When K-9 relayed the Doctor's message "" Give Sarah Jane Smith my fondest love, tell her I shall remember her always "" It made me shed a tear, as 25yrs later, the Doctor, Sarah Jane & K-9 Reunited in a full episode ( School Reunion ), though I don't count the ( 5 Doctors or Dimensions In Space )..... No matter what, I think ( K-9 & Company ) will always be one of my favorites..Sarah Jane, The Greatest of all Companions & K-9, the only constants with the different Doctors.....❤👩🐶....
The 5 doctors counts but everyone forgets that event like it never happened because the timelines were out of sync, the only one who remembers is the 5th Doctor Dimensions In Time is considered Non Canon from my understanding Of course anyone could argue that everything is canon so 🤷
Sarah Jane Smith (played by the late Elisabeth Sladen) and K-9 (voiced by John Leeson) are both ADORABLE! Rest In Peace, Elisabeth Sladen! ... "Best Doctor Who Companion EVER!" ❤️
How would Brendan have felt if Sarah Jane told him that the Doctor is a Time Lord from another planet and that he can regenerate, though the Doctor never told Sarah Jane that Time Lords regenerate their bodies 12 times? Would Brendan promise Sarah Jane to keep it a secret from the world if she asked him?
I wonder if Elizabeth Sladen realized how many lives she touched. Even today, almost a decade after her death, the thought that she's gone fills me with great sadness.
Loved DW, Loved Tom Baker, Loved Sarah Jane Smith, liked K9, loathed this special. It was a shocker. Lis Sladen was a beautiful kind soul and I would have watched this just to see her.
Sarah Jane was wise not to ask K-9 Mark 3 what happened to the other 2 models of him in front of Brendan because of all that she had been through travelling with the Doctor and encountering a lot of danger on and off Earth until she had been brought back to England after the Doctor got a telepathic call to return to his people.
@@pastorbri but the intention was that it would spawn a spin-off show from Who - this episode was essentially the pilot - but it never materialised. The Sarah Jane Adventures was then the 21st century version of what this show was meant to be.
Yes it solves the mystery. A couple of months ago, I got into a discussion about K9.... I thought he showed up with Leela (?) the girl in the skins.. who came after Sarah Jane... so how did Sarah Jane end up with K9 in school reunion.
@@andrewsmith8729It was K9 MK1 who first appears with Leela, and then chooses to remain with her on Gallifrey. The Doctor builds a MKII and MKIII, sending the latter to Sarah Jane while the former travels with him until he is left with Romana in e-space.
I started watching Doctor Who in the 1960s ..... right up to when Tom Baker morphed into Peter Davidson. Wikipedia has a page on K9. I cannot remember seeing K9 and Company back in 1981.... I might have... but it was 42 years ago...
I did wonder how she got k9 cause she didn’t have him when she left him and I have only seen bits of classic who I love it even more now that I know he was a present from the doctor
The 4th Doctor, who made K-9 Mark 3 as a gift to Sarah Jane, should‘ve also said to tell K-9 to tell Sarah Jane to give his regards to Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart,Harry Sullivan & Benton.
@@yuranga4591 Yes, I did. Odd that Mike Yates probably didn't see Sarah Jane since he redeemed himself in the giant spiders adventure, which was the 3rd Doctor's last adventure.
Thanks.. cool dog! ... if you want the perfect relationship get yourself a dog 👍🐕.. OBTW Jon Pertweee visited NZ and gave a talk he was very nice... thanks from NZ 👍🇳🇿
@@sapphirehardy2378 Not really: Mk1 stayed with Leela and Mk2 with Romana. Mk3 would likely not have known of their ultimate fate, (Mk1 was destroyed and rebuilt with the loss of some memories and after Romana's time as President of Gallifrey Mk2 would continue to serve her successor).
Sarah Jane was wise not to ask K-9 if The Doctor's appearance changed after she last saw him or if it was still the same when he built K-9 Mark 3 and left it as a gift for her because of Brendan, who was in the house with her when she opened the crate that had K-9 Mark 3 in there.
If Sarah Jane told Brgadier Lethbridge-Stewart,Harry Sullivan and Benton about K-9 Mark 3,they would‘ve wanted to meet him and ask him if the Doctor changed his appearance again or not. But she probably wouldn‘t tell Mike Yates, who re-sgned from UNIT to avoid court-martial for betraying them and chose to move on,though he atoned for his betraying them.
Ir never made sense to me why they teamed k-9 and sarah jane together since they were never in dr who together--it would have made better sense to have had a show with him and leela--(which would have been boring with her and andred fighting all the time)--or with lalla ward's romana--(better--because they would have had some great adventures in e-space).
If Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart had paid a visit to Sarah Jane then, he would‘ve been surprised to see K-9 Mark 3 and would‘ve guessed he came from the Doctor before K-9 Mark 3 got actitated.
It would‘ve been good if a clip from the 4-episode Doctor Who story The Hand of Fear was in this spin-off, showing the scene in which Sarah Jane Smith remembers what the Doctor looked like when he had to say good-bye to her because he had received a call to return home and he couldn‘t take her with him because he felt it was too dangerous, which he later realized he was right.
I don't think that 'cos it didn't lead to a series that the pilot failed, but it was probably not advertised as such and so viewers didn't know what to expect. Plus I think there was a bit of staff shuffling at the Beeb at the time so head of programmes didn't comission any new series based on a spin off, if anything it should be reclassified as a '80's DW Xmas Special...just without the Doc. 😉
@@julieeverett7442. If it was part of the 4th Doc's stories, it's not likely to be part of season 15 as it was shown after season 18 and set around the same period of time as the events of Logopolis. Or possibly between Meglos and Full Circle.
@@Nige031077 If you look at the list of stories for the 4th it is in season 15 after horror of fang rock, but since he is Mark3 its probably after Warriors gate and Romana stayed
@@julieeverett7442. I would love to see the list of stories, but I have 'temporaryly' been separated from my copies of the Program guide, (which I suggest and recommend you read), and you'll see when the story was originally transmitted.
@@Nige031077 I did check, the box set includes invisible enemy which WAS season 15 and k9 and co, the 81 special, it aired BEFORE Castrovalva so I STILL count it in Bakers run!
no reason other than change in hierarchy in BBC at the time, the pilot did very well, a series was planned but a new head at the BBC came in and vetoed it
Look at the opening credits again. The show was under-conceptualized, bring Earthbound and with few supporting characters - and those weak. Basically not couldn’t decide if it was a SCI-fi show, a spy adventure, a wry comedy, a showcase for Liz’s bod, or what. After the pilot even SHE didn’t want to continue.
