I spotted Saoirse in a bar in Edinburgh this past August called CC Blooms, after just submitting my masters thesis earlier that day . Her back was to me at the bar and I knew immediately.. holy shit that is HER. To this day I do not know how I was able to spot her from behind in a dim bar... I was standing about 3 ft from her and interrupted... " are you saoirse ronan? " and she said.. yeah! I couldn't believe it! We chatted for a good few minutes about my dissertation I was doing at the Uni of Edinburgh (regarding gender discrimination faced by women in senior leadership.) She stayed and chatted with me and listened about my research intently and was a COMPLETE gem. We parted ways and she gave me a genuine hug. I will not forget this run-in with her ever!!! And I am super happy I watch enough of these interviews to know how to pronounce her name properly LOL. It was the ultimate way to conclude my masters degree.
That sounds amazing? 🥺 She seems like such a warm person in interviews, I'm not surprised that she actually is nice in person. Damn, what an encounter. I'd love to meet her. Also, that's rad. Your dissertation sounds interesting. Would it be possible to get a copy of it from you? 😬 Thank you!
@@vanessaborbe1236 The entire /degree & year for me was so difficult living abroad from my home alone and honestly it felt like, just the biggest sign & gift from the gods that, I did it, hours after i submitted this massive piece of my life... and since I admire her so much already, it was just fucking magic spotting her and hearing her approval & encouragement on this kind of topic
Look at Saoirse's eye contact with Kate. If you want to know why she is such a talented actress at such a young age, that is why. Acting is more about reacting and listening than actually acting. Observing. Soaking up a character. Understanding motivation. And then being in the present.
Exactly. And most people don't understand that; they only care about careless fame and money. I'm so happy someone else understands the deeper meaning. Cheers!
Yeah thats gonna be a weird watch for me cuz I always wanted them to play mom and daughter. They don't give me "sexual chemistry" vibes. Kinda weird not gonna lie. That's like if Saoirse played Meryl Streep's love interest or something...
But no one in Ireland talks like that - she fakes it. And the accent where she grew up is completely different. The whole of Ireland's in agreement: her accent is affected -she's a wannabe Dubliner, fyi.
mofuze ._. Not delusional at all - just have a good ear, but how tone-deaf and ignorant are you? It's definitely affected. She's speaking the way that she thinks Dubs speak (she's not one herself) and the result is that she ends up sounding like a caricature of a Dub, making exaggerated sounds that show it's phoney.
lavien'estpasunlongfleuvetranquille did you ever think maybe she’s just trying to speak clearly for the benefit of all the morons who can’t stop talking about her accent?
I love how there are no awkward moments in this interview since these are two extremely intelligent people who have a lot to say. I'm very impressed by how mature Saoirse is.
+Svyy Black These videos are also published on our main website as well as other social media platforms such as Facebook. As a result, most of the traffic go through those avenues first. :)
I love watching Saoirse's facial reactions to Kate; they're just so natural and instinctive. Also, I love how much research they each put into the other's work.
This was so good. I wish it had gone longer. Kate and Saoirse are two of my favorite actors working today. Incredibly talented and still very classy people.
I'm already four minutes into this video and wow, I love the exchanging conversations between these two women. So insightful and intelligent! There's nothing awkward between them like you would see with other actors (meaning they're not just filling air to get through the interview).
Kate Winslet is the epitome of someone who thoroughly deserves their success. Consummate professional and stellar role model. Actually these two are perfectly matched as mentor and mentee. Am falling more and more in love with Saoirse Ronan. Loving how beautiful, old-fashioned love stories are being told again.
Personally, I don't think Kate is the best role model (she's not horrible either) but I admire her talent, her looks of course, and her movies are usually very captivating
I can't believe Kate is 40, she's so so gorgeous. I almost forgot how Saoirse has a large list of films she's done by now, when at first I thought she was probably too young to be opposite Kate in this "actors on actors". She's very mature and deserving of this conversation, however, and I have more respect for both, though they were already two of my favorite actresses :)
@@DHU11 Well she's 47 now actually and still looking amazing. Most women at 40 (non actresses for the most part of course) don't look half as good as she does. They stop taking care of themselves or never did in the first place. I'm nearly 40 myself so it's refreshing and hopeful to see other women aging gracefully.
+Sandra Meesala They should do that for other professions to. Athletes interviewing Athletes. Film Directors interviewing Film Directors, etc. There's also a great channel on youtube called Offcamera. Very good interviews there, too.
Because of her accent, I always assumed Kate had quite a privileged upbringing, it's interesting to learn that she really did not! Teaches me not to judge too quickly
Good point. Actually, every English person knows that if you want to go up in the world, you better get that RP accent down. People take elocution classes to sound more upper-class prior to job interviews, because as you may aware, accent equals class.
Too much talent in one frame I can't handle it. It's always fascinating to see actors being open about their art and their vulnerability. Thanks Variety this clip is amazing.
Meghan Helmich I was thinking about this and I think you’re right. It’s almost like Keira and James’ performance were expected for their ages, while Saoirse’s was ahead of her time. It’s like ‘whoa a 13 year old can do that?’ While You’ve got Keira and especially James doing it in the other corner, but it’s not impressive when they do it.
freegratuits ... I flew to Hong Kong from the States and back 2 weeks later in 2016.. I watched Brooklyn 4 times on the flight on the way over and 3 times on the way back..
I could never finish Brooklyn OMG! I watched it twice and got really sleepy and I'm ashamed! I made it to the part when so-and-so dies and she goes back home and sees Domhall's character. I have no idea how it ends!
Dear Mrs. Winslet., be embarrassed I can say that I have seen all your movies. I'm not ashamed of it, because you're a woman worthy of being admired! I love you, there is no doubt about that. I am an officer of the army of the Czech Republic, I am an aging, tired middle-aged woman who sees in you her hope, my dream, which has not yet come true !. Kate, I don't know why, but I think you're a completely normal woman, with normal dreams and desires. Please stay like that! I wish you only happiness and love! You are a huge inspiration and role model for me. Thank you.
I love this concept alot. You get so much more out of the interview rather than when the actor is talking to a complete stranger. It's hard to find that connection.
Kate was probably thinking, “I’m probably not gonna end up doing a movie with this woman in 2020 that takes place in the 19th century, where we simulate performing cunnilingus on each other”
Mahn, i've been watching these series and I must say, you can't be a successful actor and not be intellectually endowed. And I don't mean by school standard.
Whoa! First time I saw Saoirse Ronan I thought she looked a lot like a Kate Winslet and now I see this :) Great to see the two actresses in one screen!
for YEARS now I have been obsessively awaiting the film Ammonite where these two will play LOVERS,, how did I not know this interview existed until today??
I wonder how they match the actors in these interviews. Seems they know a lot about each other. Btw, this is so brilliant. I just love it when actors nerd on each others' works.
+M Burns I'm not Irish but I can notice the difference between Saoirse's accent in "Brooklyn" (Wexford, I suppose) and her own dialect (still no clue where it's from) in every one of her interviews. I am able to detect a Dublin dialect for it is quite subtle but not dialects from other Irish counties and cities (Galway, Cork, etc).
+Theclowcard Shes from Carlow but only down the road from where Brooklyn was shot. Her accent has a Dublin twang because both her parents are from Dublin. So she had to change her accent to suit.
the beautiful thing about this also is that it's an intergenerational conversation, a kinda mock-conversation between mother and daughter without real familial ties, just a young woman and a middle-aged woman talking about life and movies and acting
My Gosh i just made it here after i watched the Ammonite... so yah KW much preferred SR for the role of Charlotte. I just love their movie together. I love you so much! 😍😍😍
I love these interview. Both are very sophisticated, intelligent, and truly inspirational. I love that despite the age gap they both can learn from each other's experience especially when playing parts where accent is a big challenge. I would love to see them both in the same movie.
I've just finished Ammonite and I'm here watching them together before they even knew they would play lovers in a movie one day. It's intresting to watch it after watching the movie.
