I know they're literally letting off right after they get started, When I was younger I had a YZ 125 Jason Lawrence look a like , with an Athena head , Athena Teflon coated racing piston , hot rod crank, And I flew everywhere wide open 6th gear, for as long as I wanted! I went seasons with it to see how long it would last, and it did not Grenade , though the piston did have a crack in it!
The 500 is badass, that was my dream bike that year with the new color scheme logos were awesome, 2nd only to the 86 CR250 of which i still have the Original sales brochure in mint condition.... Oh the days.....
poodle sauce That’s why you should always start in 3rd with a 500. They take a lot of practice but once you get those starts down, a 3rd gear launch on a 500 is unbeatable.
I just gotta add those bikes are beautiful. I always take notice to things like Bars, levers, grips, expansion cone, side plate and radiator shroud decals, swingarm decals, and the tips of the front and rear fenders. And these bikes are nice for 24 and 29 yr old bikes. Then I noticed the car at the end and thought "Hell Yeah these boys have there priorities in order money well spent" lol
Great vid you guys, I love it!!!!!❤️❤️. Want's to ride with you- i ride a '89 watercooled based MAICO GME 500 with 61 hp... I hear your sounds, i feel The adrenalin and i can smell pure 2 stroke! Thanks for this great video and greetings from Germany!!! your Harald! ( sorry for my bad language...) 👍👍💨💨
I had an 01 KX250 back in 02. 2 guys who raced gncc were leaving right when we were from a trail head and decided to ride with us. They were bragging how they just "leave it in third and no one touches us". I mopped them up the entire day, bad. Waited at every trail sign for a cpl minutes every time. They couldn't believe that they couldn't keep up to a 250. IT'S THE RIDER NOT THE BIKE. My bike had only had PC exhaust and v-force reeds, not even suspension work. They were lil rich boys and had thousands into their bikes. I know one of em pretty well now and he still talks about it, kinda funny. "Thought I was fast til this asshole rode with us".
Anyone that doubts the 90,s cylinder induction Honda cr series bikes were best engine package ever then here is all the proof you need. And that's a power valved kx.
awesome content here man.... would love to see the 250s race now that the cr is running right.. kx vs cr. or maybe go out and get a cr500 to race the kx500. that would b so cool .. either way.. love this channel.
@@Warriormanners lol what are you saying this video just stated otherwise. The speed of a bike doesn't matter it's all the rider man. If I was on that kx500 and you were on your 250, I guarantee you that I'd be pulling away from you. I used to race them back in the day. I love both the 500's and the 250's but the 500 is just much more aggressive and has more speed overall.
On the first runs they were pretty even in the short run, once the KX catch speed it take off. But at the few last runs the KX gets better all the way. Probably the driver get more familiar and can use the the big bore better. Great machines, great video
Ik that thing roars like a mean machine, well it is one. The cr is a beast and all but nothing is gonna top that kx500 2 stroke. I mean the 500 was just pulling away practically for the whole race anyways 😂😅
@@motomash6143 I absolutely love the CR. I really like the CYLINDER REED INDUCTION engines. They to this day are IMO are The best 250cc 2 stroke engines ever. The CASE REED INDUCTION engines from 02 to 07 were not as good. The problem is that there's too much volume in the intake tract. Team Honda engines had different cases that addressed the issue but didn't equip production bikes with these cases, which is an infraction of the 1986 rules that factory teams use the "SAME" engine cases as production models.
Me and my bro had 94 cr250s and those were the best 250 engines ever made imo! That is until they ruined them in 02 with that stupid RC valve! Those bikes had smooth tractable power and boat loads of it! I still love the old 500s though they were beasts! My neighbor had a 91 CR500 and you could barely keep the front tire on the ground in any gear! Plus you gotta love the pingey sounds of a 500!
From the golden times of moto-cross. I had a 86s YZ125, a 89s KX250 and a 87s YZ250 In deep sand, you need a big engine. I only stopped driving, because backache.
nice vid but from the comments most were left wanting more. I owned a 92 kx500, 93 banshee, 89 250R, 84 cr500, 87 kx500, 86 250r ATC, and a few other bikes back in the mid 90's and me and my friends used to drag race them all the time. But we used 120 square acre hay field. that hay field allowed traction to hook up way better than dirt, gravel, or stone. the banshee and TRX 250r always ran dead on except for rider weight(lighter rider wins). But the 92 Kx500 always walked everything from 1st gear on and just kept pulling away farther.
Yep... my buddy and me had new ‘88’s. Mine KX, his CR. We raced the sand flats, wide open, 1/2 mile. I would Finnish, turn, and he would be 3/4 there. Trade bikes, same thing. Kx dominated power/speed, but CR handle track better. I sold that, and bought ‘92 ATK 406. Equally beastly, but notably different!!!
I love Honda’s. But Kawasaki’s have always been my favorite. Ive had 3 different Kawasaki’s in my life time. And ive had 2 different hondas.. somethin about them green machines i just love more. But hell ima weirdo so come at me!!
Yep same here brother the kx is were it's at. Is it just me or do you also find Honda's to be a tad bit overrated?. Something about them just dosent make the cut for me. I've always been a kx guy and I've tried to even honda's, but I just don't like em to much. I find Honda's to be good 4 stroke bikes but I don't really dig their 2 stroke bikes.
Um Facebook marketplace or MAYBE craigslist is your best bet my g. I got my kx250 off of Facebook marketplace, but then I ended up trading it for a kx500 😄😄. The guy that I traded bikes with was scared of his kx500 so I gladly took that puppy to my garage 😂😆. I rebuilt the bike into a mint condition kx500 and it's already causing my neighbors to scream at me for leaving gigantic train-track sized marks in my yard 🤣.
I've had them both, the KX has a power valve and hands down spanks the CR straight line. The CR will corner and eat the KX on a track. Always wanted to build a Frankenstein...
Need to get back farther to lifter the front a few inches and hook. Had a 90 kx500. That thing would carry the front end in every gear. Even in deep florida sugar sand. Also tried to kill me everytime I threw a leg over it. lol
The 500 is okay for fire roads but a handful on single track trails. The 250 has plenty of power and is the preferred choice for riding trails because it won't wear you out like the open classer.
Depends on the bike. If it's a dialled down 250 with a heavier flywheel, wide-ratio box, stiffer valve springs and a plusher suspension then yeah.. But if it's a straight up motocrosser like my YZ250 that loves nothing other than screaming off the top end then no.. If anything the KX500 would have more useable bottom end off the factory floor without needing to make as many modifications..
