I had a'89;cr250, that thing got abused, thrashed, put through hell, parked & ridden over & over without the maintenance it deserved. * Broke the shock linkage wishbone, coming up short on a triple, didn't know until later, walking back to bike after another crash, I saw the underside- welded back up, good to go! * Crashed in a sand berm, rad shroud hooked ground & ripped L.radiator open, I limped back to truck, blocked coolant lines with sockets, hose clamps, & plastic PC's, finished camping weekend on 1 radiator! * Lost eng.oil drain bolt in a XC race, bike was stalking & squeaking going into some corners, didn't know bolt & trans oil were gone until I was spray washing bike 2 days later * I want to say you can't kill one of these, but I did, a super hot XC race finally made my cylinder crack race over.i had a steel liner put in , back in buisness! * 1989 was first year of upside down forks, inner bushings wear out quickly- try to find later model forks *** Thank you, Honda, toughest bikes out there! *** Irreplaceable good times on Honda's over the years, cut ME open, im red inside!
If you dislike the video there is something seriously, seriously mentally wrong with you or those are the ones who don't own one. I currently can't ride and i started my KX500 up just to hear and smell it.
@@billallen4793 Thank you sir. Jus had wrist surgery on my throttle side so will be ready for Thanksgiving weekend ride. Your Avatar boat looks like my old Sanger Flatty. Hard to tell from the small pic though. Ride safe

Enhora buena por el video .very good video my friends .
Shifting: Back in 84 when I started racing 250's, I read an article in MXA about starts/shifting. They had 3 ways: 1) Let off the gas, pull in the clutch, shift, gas/clutch/go. 2) Let off the gas, don't pull the clutch, shift and go. 3 Leave the throttle wide open, don't pull the clutch, and jam it in the next gear. So I practiced my starts on a dirt road where I can see the moist roost. (I did not try method 3. Sounds like more tranny work.) Immediately I noticed, between methods 1 and 2, that the coasting patches between the gears were shorter when using method 2. So I always got good starts doing that, but my finishes could have been better. :) MXA today says using the clutch is the fastest way. I sure don't know about that magazine today. Those kids make stuff up before they figure it out.
Good match up, both are equal in my opinion. Got the HPP power valve blues for my 89, trying to figure out how to adjust them to snap back to the seated positon. It snaps outward instead of inwards..
Take care of your Cr, good quality premix oil, fuel, pay attention to air filter, have a fuel filter on gas line, & most important- give your bike time to warm up before you start hammering! * The 1989 fork bushings wear quickly, chewing up your fork s, if possible, try to get newer forks or bushings 1990-93.
@@JohnSmith-yf6td I believe so, I bought a 91 cr250 that a car hit, frame & whls were whacked, but I put the internal parts into my '89 tubes. * It's possible I'm mistaken , & used the 91 tubes, it was a while back. Maybe cross reference parts on a diagram on Partzilla or some source like that. My poor old 89 Cr got beaten mercilessly for years, raced xc , fun riding, torn rad, broken linkage, all sorts of damage, & the thing would keep.going, then I sold it for $700 to a big heavy dude, poor bike!
I had a mate who had a kx500 early 90s rode it once flipped it and never mind trying to kick start it without proper mx boots ..btw he sold it the nxt week was just to powerful I had a go and I flat out a 250 no probs I barely kicked the powerband In on the 500
I think they warmed up for like ... 9 minutes lol :D One guy is wearing a sweater. I'm looking at a 89 right now. They do some nice wheelies and races, but they don't show any technical or jumping. He's not covering the break pedal when wheelieing. Pretty rad fast bikes it looks like. And they are evenly matches for 10 years apart. The 89 CR is a girl, I think ... :D
I would love to see Honda come out with a limited edition (2000 or so?) 1983-1985 Honda RC works bikes replica's. Same everything. Heck, leave in the electronic programmed exhaust power valve, (or go mechanical). I think us old guys can tune that now. :) Would be a heck of a vintage race bike. How much do you think they would sell for? I am thinking 12 grand. How would you like to have one of those in your garage? :)
@@yz_rider1252 check ur manufacturers recommendation and most of the Japanese 2 stroke so honda yammy suzuki etc use 32 to 1 people like to lean it out at 20 to 1 cos they dnt care b rebuild ever race or so
Remember this is a female rider I think sooooo boys just know that a female can handle it so can you and girls GET ON A BIKE I would love to see more girls riding
The 89 seemed to have more get up and go at the start but the 95 was faster top end could have been the fmf pipe on the 89 it adds more lower power and I heard u sacrifice a lil top end I have a 98 kx 250 with a fmf gnarly and it has lots of lower end but doesn't seem to be a fast top end wise as my old 89 125 that had the original pipe
Dude, if ya can, hold on to your 92 CR, or get a friend to collateral it until you can repay.never bad to have a back up machine, even if it's older & rough.especially a Honda
@@ArmathuX hell yeah it is bro I brought an 88 RM 250 from a Retired MX champ in New Jersey and I broke a foot and fractured knee but when it was time to get it fixed up my mechanic said that the bike was bored to the max so he tried putting a 500 piston in it but I declined that because in my mind that bike was a already a potential 500 🤣🤣🤣🤣 the bike was a beast. Now I'm looking to buy another one from my boy this time his worked out as well $1500 ransom note though
@@randymiller8194 They both have power valves. The 89 was a different style, more like the 125's. In 1992 the power valve changed and stayed that way for a while until Honda made the RC type power valve.
