Kernow GWR Steam Railmotor reducing head tail lamp brightness for analogue use

This will be a technical discussion for those with some electronic knowledge and I am not recommending you undertake any of the actions I have done, however I have sought to minimise alteration to the original model design.
I had to send back my original model seen in the video here due to failure of the LED head and tail lights, as you can see here the white light had already failed and the rear red was massively bright heading for oblivion.
Kernow sent me a brand new model but I noticed the head and tail lights were very bright. Not only did this look all wrong for what were in fact very dimly lit paraffin or oil lamps but the LEDs looked to be at serious risk of burning out again.
It also spoiled an otherwise fantastic model making it look like something out of close encounters!

Nothing wrong with sharing your modelling exploits. No-one is forced to copy you. It must be very satisfying to see your efforts deliver success.

Thanks 😊👍 I agree but I have to be careful to not promote such changes lol

Hopefully you’ve highlighted the problem to the manufacturer. Such a beautiful model. Sterling and thorough work Mike. I’d love this model down the line.

Thanks, too late for this run but seems a strange mistake

Very informative and what a simple solution that may find use inside other models - thank you Mike! 👍 Forgive my amusement in the complexity of turning down the 'wick' on the 4mm=1' model when compared to the same task on the 12"=1' version - the length us modellers go to! 😀

@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited I still have a pot of car electric screen heater conductive repair paint (very old) which comes in useful for touching in electrical contacts and grounding (say) coach axles to one wheel to enable axle pickups! 🌞

I think we can fairly say that some of the component values are... questionable, and those invisible track double sided PCB's are the pits without a circuit diagram. Thanks Mike, a sobering reminder to tread carefully!

Can't always get the desired lighting effect. Dapol Foxcote Manor is due to be delivered to me around Easter 2024, and the only light effect she has is a firebox glow. There are better steam engine models out there with firebox glow lighting. But I admire your lighting effect efforts on the steam carriage model that you have.

Like one of your other “commentators” said here Mike - you’re very brave to tackle this. It’s way over my head, but interesting nevertheless. Give me a Triang x04 motor any day😀! What a pity though to have to do this adjustment on an otherwise superb model.

Thanks, yes a shame. Guess it's built for DCC users really
