Kia Forte Misfiring - Ignition Coil Swap! 2014 - 2017 (FIXED)

Doing our own ignition coil replacement after our Kia Forte 2017 S was misfiring during idle in traffic. And just getting worst! Also put dielectric grease on the coils and plugs for more protection.
2014 - 2017 Kia Forte Ignition Coil Recall. The dealership had the ignition coils on backorder because of "Covid 19" and the replacement was suppose to be free. Myself and my little brother decided to buy and swap out the ignition coil by ourselves because I drive across town for work.
Will keep updated on the driving condition on car!

Check timing chain tension by removing valve cover. If chain slack between camshaft phaser gears, tensioner unit is stuck. Use long screwdriver to jiggle tensioner plunger until it pops out against rear guide. Tensioner plungers stick due to varnish buildup on plunger. Seafoam or other cleaner treatment will dissolve varnish, freeing stuck plungers. On this engine, verify timing by turning crankshaft clockwise until yellow chain link aligns to yellow dimple on exhaust (rear) phaser gear, crank at top dead center as indicated by crank pulley edge notch aligned on 0 degree index on timing cover, and 2nd yellow chain link aligned with front intake phaser gear dimple. The 3rd yellow chain link will be aligned with dimple on crank gear at about 4o’clock position, not visible since timing cover is installed. Multiple turns of crankshaft will be required to find this setup, due to more links on rear arc of chain, compared to number of links on front arc of chain.

Someone also said don't drop those in which is right but if you don't have a actual spark plug socket that's basically the only way you can do it or you have a magnet and try to guide it in there. If you have the spark plug socket then stick it in there and guide it down in and tighten it at first. I've never used all that grease before either because there's no way for any spark to go up that boot from the outside once you hook it in. Basically when you're doing it thank goodness it's set up now the way it is you don't really have to worry about wires and which wires what Even if it's 4 cylinder so once you get going on it you'll realize hey I need this here and this right here.

There's no order to put in the spark plugs in the order is about putting the connectors back in in the right order. Connecting to the coil packs.

Definitely do not over tighten I busted a few of those couple of times and many times have changed spark plug sometimes you don't know your own strength lol

no grease on tip of plug, never drop plug into hole,

The grease destroyed the new ignition coil immediately… that’s why after the replacement, rpm is still high during idling. Correct idling rpm is at 690rpm

Update - Been driving it past 100 miles. Issue is gone and now runs smoothly 💯/💯 posting up new video soon

Thanks for this! I noticed you discussing the AC but couldn't make out if you were turning the AC up or off. Like I have the same kia and it just started doing this so I'm curious on what all it could be. I changed the spark plugs themselves but I don't see the recal notice to have the service center change the ignition coil.

@@Falseid01 I bought some from Amazon and changed them out yesterday, minus the grease, so I'm hoping Mines fixed too. Thanks for getting back to me and thanks for the video, hopefully it will work on mine too!

And also because I had this same problem it was also needed to get the throttle body cleaned and there's a map sensor that needs to be changed that detects air intake. To be honest with you they're just way too many senses on these cars now. There's also a sensor that I can't remember the name right now that's I think manifold right now because not thinking right there's a intake to the manifold and exit to the manifold I know it has something to do with oil I only knew the one and I changed that but now I'll come to find out this one on the back side going out which doesn't make sense It's just one of those things thank goodness for Google and you can figure this and that out and on the Kia it's not so hard to replace it's all about having the money to get these things to do it Any other is check all your hoses vacuum hoses these cars are ridiculous these days
