The Kia Stinger is such an underrated and overlooked car and mainly because of badge snobs. I fell in love with the Stinger at first sight, spent 2 months researching and comparing, test driving and now I can say I'm a fulfilled man. I love my Kia Stinger GT Limited.

I was supposed to sign the papers on a 2020 Stinger GT2 on Thursday. Got to the dealership and they were closing because someone who had been in that day called to tell them they'd tested positive for Covid-19. They let me take it home as a loaner with the intention of finishing the deal today. But they didn't open back up today, so the plan is to do it on Monday now. I'm in the weird limbo of driving around in my new car, but it's not actually mine yet. I absolutely love it. It's Ceramic Silver with the red leather interior.

I have the 2019 GT2 AWD in Ceramic Silver w Red Interior. If you aren't aware, you can get the stingers for like $10k off sticker with proper negotiation and lease cash (you can buy out the lease within the first month). I highly recommend going this route if you are in a state that has friendly lease buyout tax laws. I paid $44k (including tax) for my GT2 in January 2019. Apparently the lease cash offers are even better now. Just do a search on youtube.

Yeah, a lot of reviewers become performance snobs. Unless a car is a high revving, track devouring, beast with a million buff horses under the hood they just crap all over them. But there are a million lifestyles with a million different needs. If someone needs a work truck, or a family hauler, or just a fuel efficient commuter, that type of reviewer is basically shaming them for not owning a Lambo or such. These guys don't do that. They have their preferences, but they have an open mind and fair judgement.

@XMG3
@XMG3 3 года назад
I clicked on it for the BMW because I have a 430i in red lol. Ya, it's way under powered compared to stinger, less room etc, but I prefer it and enjoy every moment with it, and that's all it matters. As they said in the video, power figures do not tell the story. I currently have a stage 1 tune, catless DP and intake on it and day in day out obliterates my neighbor's Q50S, my tiny little 2L 4 cylinder turbo gaps a 3L 6 cylinder turbo consistently, that to me is worth it.
@marcolucchini8173
@marcolucchini8173 3 года назад
@@XMG3 hmmmm, what about about a stage 1 tuned, cold intake pipes & catless exhaust Stinger? Again the Stinger will smash the BMW. You really need to compare standard to standard and price against price. That's why I bought the Stinger and not the BMW. Here in Australia the BMW costs twice that of the Stinger for the same performance. Plus you get seven years unlimited warranty. A no brainer for me.

KIA Stinger has aluminum inter cooler charge pipes with a rubberized coating for heat and sound insulation. BMW uses plastic charge pipes. Edit: Just to be clear, I like BMW's and used to own a 2013 335i xDrive. The Stinger is just an amazing car in everyway. Put a BMW batch on it and people would think it was the nicest BMW they have ever seen/driven.

Looks are subjective. I think BMW 3 series is better looking inside and out and as far as driving dynamics BMW wins for me. How do you know KIA will spend less time in the shop over BMW? Do you speak through experience actually owning a BMW or are like others who believe what they hear online? I've owned pre-owned BMW since 2012 and I have no reliability issues with either of them. The average BMW owner drives their BMW hard compared to KIa owners. Lets see how the engine and transmission of the Stinger holds up after 2-3 years of spirited driving.

15:00 The suspension in these is amazing. My dad and I are obsessed with the Stinger, and I've heard through him that Kia tested the suspension on Australian roads and used that to improve it, that's one of the reasons why it's so smooth. The Stinger is a beautiful car and it is really underrated, I think the fact it is from Kia, not a "luxury" brand, is better. It doesn't have any old traditions or bigger shoes it has to fill to supersede models of old. It can be different and surprising because it doesn't have anything to prove to a pre existing fan base. They didn't have that pressure of rushing the next model out, they really took the time with it.

I live in Scotland and took delivery of my white MSport Gran Coupe' a year ago. I looked at the Kia, as UK gets a 2.2 Diesel and a 2.0 Turbo petrol as well as the 3.3 GT2, the driving experience over Scottish roads lend to the BMW far more, despite being an older platform it drives much smaller than it is, the Kia however felt much more unwieldy. I loved this test on your program, when I watched it last year, and so glad you put it out on RU-vid, as it lets me reach out to feedback to you, as I am so jealous of the roads you have to enjoy these cars as the distances on the roads we have are clogged with slow cars we almost never get a 20 mile stretch or tarmac to truly blast a car down, heck we barely get 2 miles unhindered, so seeing you enjoy these cars is glorious!

Kia first impressed me with the Genesis Coupe. I had considered getting one back when they first came out. Honestly I should have. Instead I picked up a Mazdaspeed 3 which turned out to be a gigantic piece of shit and i'm glad that it's long gone from my driveway. A few months ago I looked back on Genesis Coupe prices and was very surprised (although perhaps I shouldn't have been) to see how well those cars have held their value. I'm willing to bet that the Stinger will do the same although only time will tell of course. At times I have looked back at getting into a 3 series BMW and have been floored not only at how horribly they depreciate but also the laundry list of "common issues". I know the BMW fanboys are all defensive and butthurt but they have reason to be. Kia stormed into their living room and is kicking their ass on their own game console.

Wow ! I thank you BOTH for your unbiased opinions. We purchased the Kia Stinger with the V6 and never looked back. We were considering the Audi and BMW and decided on the Stinger. I am Shocked though as the price we paid was Exactly the same as what you pay in America $52,000 Normally we pay approximately 10 to 20 percent more for the same vehicle. With the exchange rate at 25% vs our Canadian dollar Its a steal. Kia have a great line up of excellent vehicles. Ian Nicholson Ontario , Canada

If I had to do it again I'd get the RWD model w/o the all seasons since i barely drive it now since Covid. If you're on the fence about it... I'd highly recommend it.

Great comparison. It literally took me about 5 miles to say the Stinger was my car. I have the GT 1, RWD, its awesome. The Burger Motorsports JB4 woke it up even more, its legitimately fast in my opinion. I purchased this episode in 2018 when I was looking for a new company car. Finally, I got my first taste of petrol & RWD with a 430i GC M-Sport in - Todd's gonna like this - Snapper Rocks Blue. I like the Stinger, best KIA yet, but sadly the lease rates here in Germany are comically higher (50% or more) compared to Ze Germans. I was surprised how much the character of the car changes with the different modes. In Sport mode it feels more torquey like a bigger displacement whereas in Comfort & transmission in Sport it goes for higher revs similar to a N/A engine. It may be just a 4 banger, but revving the engine to its 7.000-7.500 RPM redline is an utter joy and makes me grin every time. No more diesels for me, thanks. After having driven an A4 TDI S-Line and a MK7.5 GTI in the past I really appreciate the superiority of BMW sport seats and the thickness and soft leather of the M-steering wheel. The HUD has spoiled me for life. Is it perfect? No. The interior cant compete with Audi (but you did know that already, didn't you?) and the B&O sound system is on another level compared to H&K. Still, I don't care, because it makes me smile more than any car before. I would choose a four-door coupe over a SUV or wagon every day, just on design alone. Now if they would only sell one with a V8 - it would be all the car I would ever need. Who doesn't like the rumble of a V8? Much more pleasing than any V6, certainly. Anyway, where to next? I had hopes for Ford releasing a four-door Mustang GT. Sacrilege? Think about it, what would you want as a dad with family and kids? V8, four doors, fun, affordable and reliable - something most modern German V8's cannot do. Chevy SS isn't an option (neither sold nor anywhere to find) here in Europe. Instead Ford went for an E-crossover, yikes. So, where to next?

Plus Biermann also now heads Hyundai's "N" performance division which so far gave us the i30 N, i30 Fastback N (prettiest compact car ever) and Veloster N. I bought a GT2 a couple months ago. We looked around for something that I would enjoy driving and the wife could go grocery shopping with. It's about as close to the perfect combination as we could find. Now I've done the german car thing for years. I looked around. We don't have "money is no object" type of money, but we have plenty of options. From a side by side comparison....no price, no badges....it comes out ahead in almost every category. If you factor price in at all than it's one of the most no-brainer decisions I've ever made. If I need to get somewhere faster than this can move me than I probably deserve to be in prison. The 10 year warranty and the fact that service doesn't cost that much was also a consideration. I literally traded my Jag in last year for a truck because the service was indefensibly outrageous...worse than Mercedes....and at least with them you got a loaner. Anyway it's got plenty of power on tap, I like the way it feels....I don't think that it feels big at all, but I'm coming from a big obnoxious XJ so anything is probably going to feel small. It likes the highway and the backroads. We're not young, but we still like to go out and cruise around and I enjoy having her scream in my ear and ask me if I'm crazy sometimes. It keeps things fresh. What I didn't expect would be the looks and comments. People are always wanting to know what it is. I was washing it the other night and a couple was walking down the sidewalk and I heard the wife say "ooohh what is that?" and she wasn't talking about me. And yes I was able to talk the wife into going with ceramic silver and she likes it. I couldn't sell her on the red interior and we actually had to go out of state to find one with the black interior. A concession, but I think that I still made out. It's a good car.

I bought the 2019 KIA GT2 AWD over luxury brands. Mine is Ceramic Silver and I get looks and compliments all the time. I’ve changed out the KIA logo to the Korean E on their Stingers and made a few other changes. KIA has the BMW M series team now working for them, so my ego is strong enough I don’t need a BMW that will sell for 20k within three or four years. Compare the 0-60 and quarter mile in the Stinger compared to the Stinger. I have no idea where these guys are getting these BMW’s. I haven’t seen any pricing for that same BMW for under 60k. Also, KIA’s working on a redesign for 2022 that will upscale the cabin, offer more hp and torque, add a piano roof, new rim offers, and exhaust options the dealers will install. Some dealers are already offering these exhaust options.
@dylan-nguyen

My mom had a 520 in the 80s, such a beautiful car, that 6-cylinder engine was so good. Then she got a 518i, the salesman convinced her that it was better driving, more efficient and effective. And it was. But it wasn’t the same and she gladly jumped into a 730i after 2 years in the 4-cylinder. BMW is slowly fading away getting rid of its milky 6s and rearwheel drive.

Excellent review and comparison between two great cars. Unfortunately in Australia we don't get the 4WD Stinger which I would have bought in a heartbeat as I loved my Subaru's which had 4 WD. I did get the GT in the Night Sky edition here in Oz. What an amazing car and I am not sure what beats it when you add up the performance, standard features, price and the 7 year warranty we get here in Australia. It is easily the best car I have ever owned and I have had some fantastic cars. It is extremely comfortable on long trips, has immense power when needed and holds the road like a bride holding her husband's wedding tackle on their wedding night. If it had a German badge, it would costs tens of thousands more as I discovered when I did price checks against equivalent German cars with similar features here in Australia. Brilliant job Kia.

I own a 440xi GC with MSport, Track Handling Pack, and the factory performance package (exhaust plus chip), and while this will come as no surprise, it is a completely different car from the 430 you featured in the video. True, it sets you back in the mid-60's, but it takes it completely out of the Kia's league. If you ever have a chance, it's worth driving the Bimmer spec'ed that way. It will blow your mind.

cars should be compared based on price, absolutely; that's how cars are shopped. I'm still surprised how much I read from people not bothering to even answer the question because, "that's an apples to oranges comparison. Those cars don't compete in the same category." I cross shop a lot of cars that aren't even close to the same segment, because the question is always, "how much car can I get for my money"...the money is the constant.
