I'll be honest I forgot that I had to write descriptions for these things. Music and bgs taken from Kid Icarus, Kid Icarus of Myths and Monsters, Kid Icarus Uprising, and Smash Bros.
My favorite line in the entire game is still “When life gives you weird alien lemons, make weird alien lemonade!... *LIKE T H I S ! !* _smashes a literal spaceship into another spaceship”_ -Hades
Yeah, years ago when I was much younger a new game had come out, but I didn't have enough money, so I had to sell a bunch of old games I never played anymore, including uprising. Very emotional day because I had loved that game but I never actually played it :(. I totally would now
Yeaaaah about that, I may or may not have blasted to oblivion paletuna the first time because I though the chaos kin was like a breast cancer or something lol
That never actually happened to me- I happened to hit the Chaos Kin the first time, and never aimed for Palutena in subsequent playthroughs. I didn’t even know that COULD happen...
I’ve never heard of this game and I’m offended that a random RU-vid video that popped up in my recommendations at 12:15 am is how I learn of this masterpiece
For the love of god please play it. I remember sneaking out of my room at midnight when i was like 9 years old to go into the living room to play. It was one of my favourite 3DS games. Even tho its supposed to be funny (which it totally achieves) in the first place, I always thought that the story wasn't bad either. And there was a multiplayer mode which I loved to play, even tho I didn't even have Wi-Fi connection and could only play against bots. (Also Viridi is a great waifu *cough*)
Kid Icarus: So... my last game was really good. When are we getting a sequel? Nintendo: Oh come on Mario. You're our number one franchise. You don't need to worry about getting a sequel. Kid Icarus: I'm not Mario... Nintendo: Oh... Are you The Legend of Zelda? Kid Icarus: No. Nintendo: Kirby? Kid Icarus: No, I'm- Nintendo: Oh wait! I got it! You must be Metroid. Kid Icarus: No I'm Kid- Nintendo: In that case who the hell do you think you are asking me for a sequel?! Shut the fuck up and sit in the corner with Star Fox and I'll get round to you if I feel like it! Kid Icarus: But- Nintendo: ARE YOU TALKING BACK TO ME?!! Do you want to join F-ZERO, you little shit?!
Nintendo: Metroid!!! Metroid: yes Nintendo: we're making a sequel to the prime trilogy and we're giving you a remake with some other crappy game Metroid: SEE YA CHUMPS
Kid Icarus:My series got discontinued for 8 years! Earthbound :Yeah, well mine got discontinued for 14 years! F-zero:Amateurs... Kid Icarus:What was that, Punk? F-zero:AMATEURS
@DraKaleel 18 Ah dang, that really sucks... I myself have a problem with working in groups on a creative project because I have many ideas and I'm the only one that thinks like... myself. So I often have to compromise or flat out abandon my ideas because the rest of the group doesn't agree. It's hurtful. And it's why I always like to do creative projects on my own or at least direct them. I understand why Sakurai wouldn't want to have to go through such an unpleasant experience again.
6:58 I love how when he talked about the aliens it sounds like hes joking, but no, literally in the game in the middle of what's going on there's a mission with aliens, so for the next couple missions you have to shoo them away
@@maizjsj yep I remember HATING the mission where you are carried by those centurian soldiers, its like an escort mission, but you are the escort and have to keep the ones bringing you alive
I noticed there are very few (or even not) female villains in Nintendo and Medusa is one of them. She really needs to get revived, imagine how famous she’d be if Kid Icarus never died. I hope Medusa will get more recognitions later
I can't think of a single God or Goddess who hasn't committed a "dick move" at some point. If someone so much as missteps around them they'll either try to curse or rape them, depending on the god or goddess.
8:50 That's because it isn't actually his heart. It's stated that Hades created that small dimension and made Pit believe he was actually inside his stomach.
“Pit fights Hades and for a while they seem evenly matched” I think I missed the bit where they seemed even because Hades burped and destroyed the 3 sacred treasures and then ate pit
That was hilarious, and I love the "lazy" artstyle, we can see you put a lot of effort into that video and the transitions are perfect. Also thank you for reminding me how Chaotic Good this game is.
Thanks, I'm aiming for a sorta children's storybook kinda aesthetic. I think I remember reading in an interview that Sakurai wasn't sure if he could make a sequel to Uprising just because of how hard it would be to match the insanity and crazy twists of the first game.
@@ChaseKip yeah I read that too and to be fair I don't know how another game could be as good as Uprising either. Nothing was left unfinished, and everything is just so perfect, the dialogues, music, backgrounds, characters, even the fucking menu aesthetic is great ! A part of me wants a sequel but another doesn't because it'll probably never bring the same feelings.
People of Earth: (At War) Aliens: Allow us to introduce ourselves. People of Earth: Do you mind?!? Hades: Yeah! Get the literal Heck out of here! (Except he doesn't say Heck)
Thank you so much for publicising my favorite game franchise of all time, I love seeing people make videos on it and keep it relevant and in people's minds. Pit has been kinda a role model for me in a way ever since I was 11-12 (when uprising came out), and even before then I was charmed by his character in brawl and mained him (still do in smash ult). I do hope someday Pit will be cracking more 4th wall breaks to us and making us laugh in a new game.
Actually, Sakurai said in an interview that developing Kid Icarus Uprising was pure agony because everyone on the team would never agree on anything, due to the vast different kinds of cultural backgrounds everyone on the team had. Which is probably why most games that involve any kind of religion, usually make up their own.
@@PitXRoxas I don't really Uprising getting ported to the Switch unless they slowed down the gameplay. I see a sequel working better so they can keep the third person perspective, maybe even with Multiplayer with the help of Pittoo, who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Only downside is, Sakurai definitely won't be directing it this time
5:14 I can only imagine how that talk went. Palutena: so, you can fly for about 5 minutes now. Pit: ok Palutena: but if you try to go over that, you'll spontaneously combust. Pit: wait what?
@@szmuchen a bad chicken nugget to be precise.... and he says that just after eating Pit.... "Why does Nintendo make so many games that revolve around inhaling things?"
They always make Hades the bad guy even though he was one of the chillest of the olympians. Like even Athena out of pettiness cursed someone to be Medusa. More accurate would be making Nyx the main bad guy as she basically created suffering and is hierarchically more powerful than the olympians (though as she also represents the unknown, there wasn't much else told in the mythology)
"It's like greek mythology except the gods are petty and start wars every other day." Yes, very different. In the original mythology it was every other week.
Kid Icarus in my youtube feed *Instant click* And it did not dissapoint. As for my favorite character, eh, all of them are great. It's a toss up between Hades and Palu I guess, but any of them will do really.
I knew I was bound to find you in this comment section, moreso when taking into account how good this video is. Kid Icarus Switch summoning circle time.
Aurum island has one of my favorite soundtracks so we can just ignore the plot. At this point I miss the game so much that I'd accept a fan game like sonic chronicles but for kid Icarus 😖
It's one of my favorite video game of all time. I wish the series will come back. Pit is one of my favorite character, he reminds me a lot of Sora from Kingdom Hearts. Nice video!!!!!!
I haven't played Kingdom Hearts yet but I can definitely see the similarities lol. And i'll forever hold on hope for a series revival hopefully on the switch. Thanks!
7:26 "Because she's a ts-tsu-tsu-tsundere!" Viridi: *"Baka!"* Also, 9:06 "WIth the power of God and Anime on his side..." **dies because he can't say it with a straight face, like me*
My favourite was probably Phosphora as weird as that may be. She is just really fun and I love the energy she brings to the conversation with being game enough to sass the goddess of light. Overall, this game is one of my favourites and was one of the only games that made an impact on me from the 3DS. I hope Nintendo does bring another iteration of the series into play, cause there were tonnes of awesome characters that need some extra love.
I love Palutena, but it'd be foolish of me not to say most if not all characters in Uprising are floor ice cream good to say the least. Hades is one of my favourite video game villains and the cast is full of adorable dorks. I really really do wish we get a sequel on the Switch, although I'm not sure how it'd control (I was a big fan of Uprising's controls, hand-numbing as they were).
Anyone else remember the 3DS stand coming with every purchase of the game to alleviate hand cramping? The game had some good times but damn did it do some damage.
@@haruhirogrimgar6047 I actually never had one because I got the game from a friend years after its release. Still sad I never got to experience the multiplayer functionalities of the game, it looks like they were mad fun from what I've seen in videos. I'm thoroughly impressed this game released so early on in the 3DS's lifetime.
@@avibi I loved 1v1ing my friend in the game but I always despised group battles. But hot damn was it fun, it gave me so many more hours to grind for some claws with good freeze or petrify stats. Sorry you missed your chance on it but hopefully it will come back in some way or another. But yeah they came with a stand that helped MASSIVELY prevent hand cramping but it was still awkward to sit your 3DS down on a table to playa game.
I'd say pretty much everything that used the stylus could be done with motion controls. Splatoon and Overwatch really proved the Switch's motion control's metal.
@@emanueli.9817 It didn't exactly strengthen your hand with a control scheme that made your hand cramp. At most, it just did damage to your carpals. Get back to Hanime and opening pickle jars if you want some grip strength.
Kid Icarus: Palutena’s Origins Play as Palutena, explore the kingdom in HD, help the people, develop a deeper understanding of palutena and Medusa’s relationship (there could be some heartbreaking shit in it), Medusa lashes out with the underworld crew, palutenas world is destroyed then a really dark sequence which would be incredibly sad, then basically a reimagined version of the original kid Icarus game from palutena’s view and viridi becomes a character in smash and everyone’s happy.
Allow me to expand on this with a concept I've had in my head for a while: Zeus, king of the gods, sends her eldest daughter Palutena to defeat the god of war, -Kratos- Ares, who has decided to build a massive army and take over the Underworld, Overworld, and Skyworld alike. (Hades hasn't become evil yet and is just fulfilling his duty as ruler of the Underworld). She gets absolutely DUNKED ON the first time so she goes to Dyntos, who creates the good ol' 3 Sacred Treasures, which she then uses to defeat Ares in spectacular fashion. We also get to see her relationship with her sister Medusa, who frequently helps her throughout her journey, kinda like Dark Pit in this game. Oh yeah and somewhere down the road Zeus dies somehow in like a REALLY sad way (sacrifice?), and the sisters become the new rulers of Skyworld. Medusa blames Palu for his death, which is what creates the discord between them. Roll credits. Yes, the real credits.
Uprising could honestly be one of the most underrated 3DS games. It feels modern in a lot of ways many 3DS games didn't even when they first came out. It's so much fun. Epic in action, large in scale, with great voice acting and funny as hell. And, fuck it, I like the 3D with it -- it's one of the few games that really takes advantage of that feature. (Which, ironically, probably didn't help it with the mass market.)
In Icarus, Hades is the bad guy, but he was a chill guy in mythology. Zeus on the other hand cheated on his wife, threw Hephaestus off of Olympus, and literally hit on other woman when his wife wasn’t around. (BTW, this is edited because I actually never finished the comment, and people in the replies were telling me I was wrong. I was! Sorry everyone in the replies!)
Palutena herself has the power of unlimited flight, she just can only lend it to Pit for so long because she has other godly abilities she needs to help him in other ways. That random furby isn’t doing anything except giving Pittoo the power of flight.
I just want an HD remake on switch or a spin off with maybe the forces of nature. I feel like the main story is complete and doesn't need more continuation, but it'd be awesome to have other points of view
@@yorickvlt1021 A remake would be really tough given its very unique control style (works great when your hands don't cramp.) I would like a new game in the series so they can make the controls more... Conventional.
Kid Icarus does have a very short three episode anime called Palutena’s Revolting Dinner. That plus Palutena’s reveal trailer for Smash really makes me want a Nintendo anime besides Pokémon. If that came out, that would be my “shut up and take my money” moment.
I just want them to notice this series. Heck, I’ll be fine with just porting the multiplayer mode over and making it like Super Kirby Clash, though that would be kinda lame.
1. Pauletena can grant Pit the power of flight for as long as she wants but after 5 mins pit could die. 2. In kid icarus uprising space pirates stole the three sacred treasures. There is a Ghostbusters reference in uprising that I never hear anyone talk about. Do players just overlook it?
Pit and Magnus have always been my favorite KIU characters. Thanks for making this amazing retrospective on one of my favorite video games ever I really liked it :D
Magnus is my favorite too. The interactions between him and Pit feel like if a Monster Hunter character met Link. The difference in tone is AMAZING. His presence makes it clear that while you’re joyfully soaring through the skies, humanity is just absolutely SUFFERING, and he is NOT having it.
the ring chapter is one of my favorites, playing as a kid and a dog, it’s so charming. and viridi taking over palutana’s spot is great. and the dark pit segment is awesome
The ring chapter is definitely my favorite. You have no idea what’s going on when you start it, no one’s there to explain anything to you, and then you get hit with a sad violin version of the main theme. Then you’re a girl! Then a dog (and HOLY SHIT YOU’RE FAST) and then Magnus shows up and Pit has to supernaturally entice him to put the ring on. The subsequent banter between a miffed Magnus and an excited but confused Pit is just 10/10. Also, no angel powers or special boosts- you get to experience what fighting is like for the humans!
7:27 Pit: The forces of nature? Viridi: Don't get the wrong idea, Pit. I'm not here to help you. *It's just in my best interest to keep you alive for now* Palutena: Awww, it looks like Little miss Cactus has a soft spot for Pit Pit: uhh.. really? cause I don't think you're all that bad either. Viridi: SHHHHHHHH keep your voice down! people are listening! I'M DEFINITELY NOT DOING THIS TO HELP YOU, PIT Palutena: oh really Pit: Hmph, well I'm not here to help you either... SO THERE Viridi: UGH, YOU TWO ARE SO ANNOYING, THIS IS WHY I KEPT TRYING TO KILL YOU! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RfucTScqOhg.html Japanese version is also as fun as english's
I'm glad I found such a clear indicator that I am not alone in liking the game(s). I only ever played Uprising, but I loved it and still do. Just wish the screen protector on my 3ds wasn't so scratched up so I could properly play it again. Yes, I am too lazy to get a new one. I think Viridi is my favorite, but I am unsure as well. Thanks for having made this. Lovely work you've done.
Me: * already knows everything there is to possibly know about the Kid Icarus games, but still watches to see id there's any mistakes * Also me: YOU DIDN'T MENTION PHOSPHORA FLIRTING WITH PIT!
my favorite Kid Icarus person is Phosphora, shocker i know, i really like Hades and his nonchalantness, Palutena with her big anime tatas, Viridi and her cockyness, but i just love Phosphoras flirting with Pit while Pit has no idea how to respond.
It’s great to see a recent video of Kid Icarus content with such great quality. This game needs a crap ton of love, and I’m crossing my fingers that one of the dlc for smash is Hades or Medusa to parallel what Sakuri did for Samus and DK, giving all original NES characters their villains. Then upon the dlc release, he announces a new Kid Icarus game like they did with Isabelle.
I feel like there's a parallel universe where Kid Icarus became a staple Nintendo franchise and got several sequels. As a kid I anxiously awaited Super Kid Icarus or Kid Icarus 64 and it never came. Now I'm closing in on 40 years old and I still await a true console sequel. I'd settle for Uprising on Switch. For now at least.
Kid Icarus could do so well with more God stories, maybe focusing on other big gods besides from Hades. Id love to see how Nintendo would continue on with the story of Kid Icarus, especially with all the characters already stockpiled and the new characters to be added in another possible game.
I lol'd at the dunking of the nugget in the spring. I just found your videos and they're funny already but I think I almost died during that part. Thank you!
