The fact that Ridley is incredibly smart as shown in the manga and can talk honestly makes him way more terrifying. Would have been cool to have that in a game in my book.
Imagine Ridley comes back as this gigantic dragon that just stalks around and sizes up Samus, all while giving the most devastating and terrifying villain speech and talking for the first time in the games, only to be promptly blown up for the dozenth time
What would be funnier is if Ridley was not just intelligent but 200 IQ, just imagine a 30 foot giant pterodactyl thing that just starts saying “Hello my good sir my name is Ridley Wraith Ridlingham I do inquire what are you up to in the location of planet we call Zebes? “
I guess the cloning process is, indeed, just cloning. As such, all the Ridleys we fight are, to put simply, babies. Possibly more advanced mentally than a real baby with the help of some accelerated mental development tools during the clone accelerated growth, but still far from a naturally developed mind. It make sense that Ridley is a raging beast during games.
6:57 I find it important to note that Samus' suit is NOT fused with her body, she just couldn't take it off while unconscious, which led the doctors to remove parts of it leaving her with the fusion suit. The fusing with her body thing seems to be a translation issue, because it's literally not mentioned in the original japanese version (nor in the german localisation for that matter). This is also proven by her literally being a normal looking human in both the death animation in Fusion and Dread, as well as the ending screen, where she is wearing the crop top and shorts.
yeah i think its more of a self defence feature that the doctors had to forcibly bypass to save her which in turn destroyed large chunck of her suit. since the suit itself is partially biomatter it was healing itself in fusion giving it that pulsating texture, then in dread it was mostly healed by then looking more like exposed muscel fibre
It's not fused to her, but it is linked to her dna. Which is why the X parasite was able to regrow the missing parts and replicate the suit. Also, I think it's possible that, when powered on, the suit does fuse with her body in some way, given the Morphball exists.
There is an ending in Fusion that shows her with some weird growths on her arms. Not sure if it was part of her Zero suit but i think there were implied mutations from the Metroid DNA. Amazing game!
Not gonna lie, I fully believed as a kid on my initial playthrough that her suit had actually fused with her body as a result of the X infection and was under the impression she was irreversely scarred under the suit. Kind of like Deadpool.
Samus has visited 17 planets 5 of those got destroyed as a direct respone to Samus' actions. That makes a round about 29% ratio of a planet being destroyed if samus steps foot on it. For Context Samus destroyed 2.5x more planets then both death stars combined

I like how everyone says in Dread she’s now able to absorb then energy of other life forms, but that’s been happening since game one. You pop a baddie and a little purple energy floats in the air that heals you when collected, and it’s called energy. lol
the purple energy is fuel for the suit. in fusion she hunted and consumed x parasites for her body to the point which they feared her, evolved countermeasures, then eventually threw everything they had at her before ignoring her for the bigger threat of the return of the metroids. speculatively, since they were explained as a hive mind, its possible that they knew they were safe on other planets (see: dread) and needed to ensure no metroids made it off SR388, which is why they enlisted samus's help.

A wonderful animation style and great summary of one of Nintendo's longest lasting (and coolest) franchises. Yeah, Samus is a walking Bio-Hazard, Ridley never dies and Metroid Prime 4 is probably coming out... someday
I think worth mentioning is that "metroid" is meant to be the Chozo word for warrior, so Samus as a warrior of the Chozo was befitting of the word and for it to be the series name. Extra info that the Chozo are hinted to also had a bit of an evil empire history themselves. In general the series kind of has a thing of groups being shady for more power.
On top of this, The Baby (whether confirmed by Nintendo or not, it's a headcanon of mine at least) is THE "Super Metroid" (Ik it's just because it was on the SNES which is why it was called Super Metroid but still) and since Samus was injected with its DNA, she is the Super Metroid now, which is a nice thing to know
@@arthurbarros5189 on top of everything, she's finally Metroid, and she crawls in Zero Mission. Finally the joke of "Why can't Metroid crawl?" is broken...Metroid CAN crawl
5:46 I think I think I remember the game mentioning that MB wasn't a clone. Also, I think her caring for the Metroids wasn't the reason she went rogue, it was mostly the fact she was going to be re-programmed against her will.
Yeah in the game it was explained that she's an android and needed a physical form so the metroid can form a bond with her, which wouldn't be possible with just an Ai-program. Atleast that's how I remembered that burning rollercoaster of a game

@@Kakteenkuschler MB wasnt a clone but Mother Brains brainwave patterns were copied and imprinted onto MB. In order to control their Metroid Army they needed Mother Brain's telepathy (Mother Brain's telepathy allowed her to control others including Metroids and she was shown to be the only one that was able to control them) but even they knew straight up cloning Mother Brain would be dumb. So they made an Android and imprinted her with Mother Brains brainwave patterns.
Yes she started becoming more human and began caring about the Metroids and started speaking out against the scientists. The Scientists instead of acknowledging her as an individual decided nah we gotta stop that free thinking stuff and tried to reprogram her which set off the whole situation.
Melissa (the name she preferred) would have been a healthy individual if the scientists in charge of her had simply allowed her to be an individual. But allowing Melissa to be an individual involved ceding their control over her, and they couldn't do that with a creature as powerful as Melissa.
A few games I'd like to see possibly explained: - Xenosaga - Chrono Trigger - Earthbound (EDIT: forgot he already did this one) - MapleStory - Xenoblade X/2/3 - Sonic
Find it funny that after multiple games of being a cyborg Ridley finally decided it wasn't working and to go all natural again in Super Metroid and then actually died for real Bonus points: Every subsequent organic copy also dies for real. Meta Ridley showed up 3 times (once as Omega Ridley) and got 1 more in as Proteus Ridley. Those cybernetics put in work
IIRC his regeneration is brought up in the manga, where the explosion Samus's parents caused fucked him up and he had to regenerate his biomass by eating the dead humans, including Samus's parents, which he taunts her about.

It's really nice seeing your art style evolve from the FF9 Video and Mother series exploration (some of my favorites videos btw) and it's really cool seeing you post, as you're one of my favorite RU-vidrs. If you could, it'd be nice if you could cover the The World Ends With You series. It's such a great series and with your humor and way you draw, I feel like it'd be a great pick.
@@setster007 I have heard exactly 1 person IRL pronounce it "tweh wee." Everyone else I've ever talked to just says the full mouthful of a game title aloud because it's easier than trying to figure out how to pronounce the acronym. 😆
Man, have i been waiting for this video. I love your content, and finally seeing a video on what is basically my favourite game series ever is amazing. The style is great as always, and the fact that you always add little bits of humor instead of just explaining what goes down while also keeping them relatively short always makes your videos uniquely enjoyable. This is great, have a good day Chase
The suit did not fuse with her body, she was just unconscious while it was bound to her (she can summon the suit at will, and it binds to her body while active), that's why parts had to be removed. we know this because when she dies, the suit disappears entirely, and she has her zero suit in Dread.
@@zachtwilightwindwaker596 what do you mean "she looked conscious??" she was on an operating table and it was literally stated in the game that she wasn't conscious.
@@zachtwilightwindwaker596 that's clearly meant to be artistic and is not relevant to any of my points, as I'm talking about the game in relation to the misinformation provided in the video.
@@zachtwilightwindwaker596 In "the video shown here," they *_also_* depicted her with two hands at 4:05 and 7:57 (even though the suit does NOT have a right glove- just a cannon,) and showed her gun on the wrong arm at 2:01, 2:03, 2:07, 2:30, 4:10, 4:39, 7:08, and 7:49 (again, the RIGHT arm of the suit is a cannon. Yes, I'm aware half of those timestamps are reuses of the same image). *I think it's safe to say they took artistic liberties instead of going for accuracy.* I'm not complaining about it though- I feel nitpicky even recording the timestamps. 😣
Good video, although I feel like you should've included the fact that Raven Beak gave some of his DNA to Samus which means that Samus has DNA from two different races of Chozo
Samus' DNA is what happens when you don't know how to build a character in an evolution game so you just set everything to max and watch your abomination of a species take over the ecosystem
The Sylux hype is to prepare for Metroid Prime 4, which revealed that he'll be the big bad of that game. He's been lurking Samus after Prime Hunters as one of the endings of Prime 3 shows Sylux's ship (and recently in Federation Force, looking at the Metroid). Also, you forgot to mention that Raven Beak is also Samus' surrogate father by donating his DNA to infuse, and also he massacred the Thoha Chozos in SR388 prior to the events of Metroid 1, which he indirectly responsible for all of this Metroid and X Parasites mess in the first place, which gave attention to the Federation and the Space Pirates. Nice video. I'd like to see a Xenoblade X lore or the entirety of Fire Emblem (if you can't, just Shadow Dragon aka FE1)
One thing is that Samus's suit wasnt fused by the X. It is part of her body all the time, it therefore cant be normally removed while shes unconscious.
I only ever saw Metroid games at a friend's house way back when. I kept thinking, "Did they NOT not destroy Ripley, then?" I thought I was missing big chunks of the story in between our hangouts, but no, the stories really are just like that. Another great video, another great art evolution. You're always improving, man. Here's some games I would love to see you do a video on (and see how you handle the art styles!): - Zero Escape series - Phoenix Wright/Ace Attorney - Rune Factory - The World Ends with You - Danganronpa (good luck trying to piece together the story, the spinoffs just confused me) I will say I kinda *don't* want you to do Kingdom Hearts because it's been done a million times. That's just me, though!
Metroid fusion shows them creating hybrids, as shown by the fish/space pirate fusions that appear in the aquatic sector of the B.S.L. station. Furthermore, free floating X can transform into other enemy variants over time if left unattended.
Metroid Prime didn't really take Samus' Phazon suit, it ripped the Phazon corruption out of her suit as a means to survive, in doing so, it took her suit's blue prints along with parts of Samus' DNA to birth Dark Samus, who is surprisingly resistant and regenerative.
Funny how even in that game she had to save their asses, despite being captured first. The Federation can't to anything without Samus, yet they constantly antagonize her and make her job harder.
In the original script, the ones making the bioweapons were a splinter faction of the federation, not the federation as a whole like in the localization.
Next topic you should do is final fantasy tactics. That story has a lot of interesting back and forth between the cast church and groups. The backstory alone is bery interesting to see how things ended up that way.
Thank you!! I like to think my channel doubles as a realistic timeline of how long it takes to get better at art. So many art 'tutorials' are about getting good at art in weeks for month when for me, and probably most people, it takes years of gradually and slowly getting better. Wishing you luck on your art journey as well!
Honestly I would love to see you do an "Explained" video for the games in the 'Marth' Fire Emblem timeline. Like Shadow Dragon, Echoes, and Awakening. A timeline of the Sonic series, or just the classic games, would also be fun to watch. Castlevania could be useful, since I don't think many people will have played that series fully. And finally, I would LOVE to see your take on the Persona or Kingdom Hearts series. You're really good at explaining things, and I think you could do those franchises justice
When you led off with three factions to be aware of, for some reason, my immediate thought was, those that think only the 2D games are canon, those that think all the games are canon, and those that think that Prime isn't canon but Other M is.
4:35 excellent video and great drawings! They truly capture the character of the Metroid designs in a lovely way, as a long time Metroid fan I'm happy to see the series reach this wonderful channel of yours. Although I'm afraid your depiction of the Metroid's evolution here doesn't seem to be too accurate as the final stage here looks more like Arachnus [which isn't of the Metroid species] than any of the later stages of the Metroid evolution. The only two bipedal Metroids are Zetas and Omegas and neither resemble this little fella.
now that the prime 4 trailer dropped: "and then samus goes to another federation research facility and fights pirates, and sylux with some mochtroids are there. and surely some more things will happen."
Some games/series I think would be interesting for you to cover: - Chrono Trigger (you decide if you wanna go full Cross or not) - Star Fox (another Nintendo series, just say you dunno where it'll go next) - Solatorobo: Red the Hunter (a very underrated and rare DS game, it's best to play it via an emulator, has a LOT of interesting story stuff to talk about that you will definitely not be expecting, the RPG Monger did a video on it last year) - Asura's Wrath (another CC2 game, may be fun) - The World Ends With You (very much up your alley) - Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (see if ya like it)
What a beautiful drawings I love seeing samus a little adorable And I was a little confused seeing the Metroid returns game case before talking about Metroid fusion for the explanation I think i didn't play returns too much...
This is very well done. I'm a major fan of the Metroid series and have played every game... starting with the first on the NES... when it came out (yes, I'm an old man). I have to say this is the best Cliff's Notes version of the story of the entire series I have ever seen. If I ever hear of anyone who wants to get into Metroid, but wants to start with a later title like Dread... I'll try to keep this video in mind so they have an idea of the background story.

the infection did not cause her suit to fuse with her body. It is mystically linked to her, and thus has no natural openings like a normal suit of armour since she can summon and relinquish it at will as seen in zero mission.
Just because people are liking this and I want to spread correct information, samus gets infected during the intro sequence to fusion, and fusion comes much later than zero mission, since zero mission is a remake of metroid 1, so this is outright misinformation.
I think you miss read the comment, I think he is correcting the video at 7:00 where he says "the X parasite's infection caused her suit to be fused to her body." thelizard was just pointing out that the suit was always part of her, as metroid fusion says something like "the suit couldn't be removed while I was unconscious" not anything about the parasite keeping it on her@@foximus5231
As someone who tangentially knows the series through friends, content creators and long running jokes, this really cleared up everything in one simple video.
One thing you forgot to mention is that samus is also part warrior chozo dna (from raven beak) so her dna is basically just a rainbow colored ball of yarn at this point
A few series suggestions that I hope you may cover some time soon: -Tales Of Series (Starting with Phantasia/Symphonia) -Star Ocean (It has connections to the Tales series for various reasons/Cover The Second Story first as it IS the best Star Ocean entry) -Valkyrie Profile -Hyperdimension Neptunia -Grandia 1 (Dreamcast/PS1 RPG) -Skies of Arcadia (Dreamcast/Gamecube RPG) -Golden Sun -Arc Rise Fantasia (A very underrated Wii RPG and a great one; just bear through the voice acting if you do this one) -Magical Vacation/Starsign (Another very underrated GBA/DS game) -Touhou (Whichever one you want to start with) -Rayman -Shantae -Xenogears (The game that started the whole Xeno series) -Baiten Kaitos (Also made by Monolith) -Ys (Similar to Zelda, but massively different) -Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel -Legend of Legaia (Underrated PS1 RPG) -Legend of Dragoon (One of the Best PS1 RPGs) -Danganronpa (This one will take you for a ride) -Nier Automata -Devil May Cry -Metal Gear Rising: Vengeance (Making the mother of all omelets here, Chase! Metal gear solid lore , mostly because you have a nice talent of summarizing the most convoluted games (final fantasy, this one(Metroid) Kirby.) into 10-20 minute videos. Either way , good job chase
I've played about 3/4ths of the FEs but Ive never looked real into how they connect to eachother besides the obvious Fe7-6 ones. That could make a good video i'll keep that in mind
1. The original Ridley actually died in Super, right? Other M had a clone (?) who for some reason was just as pissed as the original and Fusion had just an X copy created from the corpse. 2. You never mentioned Adam's brain being copied into the Federation computer system, which is kind of an important plot point for Fusion and Dread.
I actually never played Banjo-Kazooie (except for a little of Nuts & Bolts), but it would be cool to see the series in one of your videos. It doesn't have that many games or convoluted plotlines and i think it deserves some recognition.
I'd love for you to cover any of the Mario RPG games. A really out there pick might be the original Spyro games or something. Cool to keep seeing new videos from you though!
The animation is so funny and so cute! I love Metroid and is a childhood favorite. My initials being ZDR same as the planet in Metroid Dread is icing on the cake for me. I can’t believe how little I of the lore I knew of this franchise. Dark Samus being a metroid makes so much sense! I was always confused about what dark samus was
I’m so glad that you did a summary of Metroid, I always wondered what the story was about…. You make it fun compared to other videos summary of the game in youtube so thanks so much. I would like to see final fantasy xiii, castlevania…. Or maybe bayonetta…
Those Long sequel games on the 3Ds or switch, Atelier? I always enjoy these summaries and it’s awesome to enjoy a franchise in this quick way. I feel I enjoy this explanations more when I’m familiar with most if not all the games in the series haha keep it up!
Yo, this is amazin! Could you do the Bravely default trilogy? You have a great way of explaining things and i think you'd translate the art style well!
Next you should do the Risk of Rain series. There is a lot of lore underneath the surface with the logbooks, and I hadn't found one video that sums it up short and sweet yet.
Usually when games cook for a long time, they don't end up being terrible, not saying I want to wait a decade for a game, or that every game that takes a long time is guaranteed to be good, but I think the fact Prime 4 is taking a while is a good sign for it.
