WHAT’S IN THE BOX?
A: Machir Bay, their main product, is a mix of 4 and
5-year-old Bourbon casks and Oloroso Sherry finished.
B: Sanaig is aged 50% in ex-Bourbon casks
and 50% in Oloroso Sherry casks.
C: U.S. Small Batch Limited Edition is 70% Bourbon,
25% cherry-picked Port, 5% Oloroso Sherry.

Well done and appreciate the Kilchoman review. I have a bottle of the Machir Bay and love it. Also bought a sampler pack from the distillery earlier this year and enjoyed a cask strength Sanaig. Just bought a bottle of the US Small Batch #1 while travelling and hope to open that soon. Also, love the Taylor on the wall...I confess to have a few. Cheers!

I have a similar triple sampler from Flaviar but my C is a 50% ABV Madeira cask finished. The Machir Bay is the peatiest, and the Sanaig is more elegant and my favorite.

Isn't it cool to know what we like? It took me years to train my palette to find the nuances so I could understand why I like what I like. I'm a bit jealous of people who figured it out more quickly. Cheers!

So I bought the small batch Belgium today from Koilchoman bourbon, px and oloroso cherry Cask 48,4% abv. And to be fair I expected a little more. But them again it's the neckpoor so yeah... It will get better (usually does) neckpoors are for 1 thing good. It's so you know you have still a full bottle off scotch. Also bought Tobermory 12 and Caol Ila 12.

I picked this 3 pack up a few months back - at the time that instead of the US Small Batch they had the 100% Islay instead. I've had the US Small Batch before - quite tasty - and really all of these are tasty - Cheers!!!

I am really wondering if you labelled B and C wrong - as I would think the port finish one would be darker/redder ... and your tasting notes for C matched my Sanaig notes I had. For me the 100% Islay was hands down the best - with the Sanaig 2nd, and the Machir Bay coming in 3rd, but still very good. Flaviar doesn't seem to bring new tasting boxes into the mix as quickly as I'd like, so I will probably pick up another Kilchoman box in the future. The only bottle of Kilchoman I've bought was a 100% Islay 3 years ago - I think the 5 year release - which needed some more time in my opinion but even then was a good flagship bottle for the distillery.

I did get the bottles right. The U.S. Small Batch is just lighter compared to the Sanaig because 50% of the Sanaig all its time in Oloroso Sherry casts. Here’s the breakdown from the description: A: Machir Bay, their main product, is a mix of 4 and 5-year-old Bourbon casks and Oloroso Sherry finished. B: Sanaig is aged 50% in ex-Bourbon casks and 50% in Oloroso Sherry casks. C: U.S. Small Batch Limited Edition is 70% Bourbon, 25% cherry-picked Port, 5% Oloroso Sherry.

perhaps Flaviar messed up when they shipped my samples - because none of mine (Sanaig/Machir Bay/100% Islay) are that shade, so I was expecting the US Small Batch one (the one I do not have) as the outlier. Maybe it's the lighting (: Cheers!

The Sanaig is definitely darker than the other two, but I think the video is darkening it up even more.

Nice review!!! I have found the Machir Bay to be smoother than the Sanaig. Sanaig is much more complex, more flavours, and of course much sweeter.

You said you'd go to Machir Bay, while looking at the description and discussing the dark fruitiness of the Sanaig. So was Sanaig actually your winner? I personally love its dark fruit/dark chocolate note.

I did grab the Sanaig card when I announced my pick of Machir Bay and that was a bit confusing, so sorry about that. I typically go for a Scotch with the Sanaig treatment, so I was surprised that Machir Bay won out on this tasting. Actually, my new favorite Kilchoman is their Loch Gorm 2021 (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BsRoxrN3ztc.html). Cheers!
