And actually, it’s MORE dangerous to have a dull blade, since it won’t slice through food as easily and is more likely to slip or not cut directly downward and cut your fingers
Also, dull blades don't cut your skin, but rip through it creating more damage. A cut from a sharp blade bleeds less and heals faster than a comparably deep cut from a dull blade.
A cut from a dull blade will also be incredibly more painful because it rips through your skin and doesn’t cut. Pain is more prominent from rough surfaces. A cut from an incredibly sharp, smooth blade will definitely not be as painful.
16:48 Becca just throwing in "it makes you fall in love... with your blood relative" truly had me doubled over trying to breathe with how casually funny she made that
Um, actually: Sir Roderick, the Winterfell master of arms, was Arya's first fighting instructor. He taught to her fight with a bow, and the question does not specify a weapon. If we are limiting it to swordplay, John Snow told Arya to "stick them with the pointy end" which was technically her first lesson with a sword, making Snow her first instructor. (... and technically correct is the best kind of correct.)
They are reposts, so for people that actually paid for that service they were pushing it on they probably already saw it. Is super nice they are now uploading them to YT though.
@@TenzinBeifongIII I don't know. I would imagine covid made it tough and I think the reason it is going on youtube is probably because it got discontinued or the deal for keep the seasons exclusive went away.
"You don't want to give your players a dragon" *Somewhere in LA, Matt Mercer is laughing maniacally because in Campaign 1, members of Vox Machina killed 7 dragons*
And green (Raishan) was arguable the strongest foe they fought. What she lacked in physical power she more than made up for with manipulation and spells (until feablemind)
@@nataku5379 Agreed. She downed the most members during the Conclave, I believe. Whether they be unconscious or dead. And the Diseased Deceiver really did her job deceiving...
Over here binging the entire back catalogue of Um, Actually and you know what I really love about it? There are absolutely no stakes. Literally nothing happens if you win or lose. It's very comforting somehow.
@@snowfloofcathug My brother used to be super into British trivia shows and that's how I pitched this show to him. That's what's so confusing when people are angry that they banter so much, what were you expecting when it's 4 comedians in a room
Um Actually, In the shiny question name that wizard, John Constantine is technically not a wizard, he is a self proclaimed warlock with demons blood, and therefore not a true wizard
um, actually, charybdis doesn't have a solid, defined physical form. the only thing that is consistent across the myths IS the whirlpool. you could draw literally anything under the water as long as you included a whirlpool. you should have asked them to draw scylla, who is much more interesting to draw as she is a half-woman, half-dog/tentacle monster with shark teeth
The whole thing with Charybdis is that you have to sail exactly between it and Scylla, but if you're stuck with no other choice, go toward Scylla. She'll kill a few people, Charybdis will destroy the ship. Charybdis is occasionally described as a giant mouth and we do know she was originally a nymph or at least no what she is now.
Not a correction, just an expansion Elrond had a twin brother, Elros. They both had to choose whether to live as elves or as humans. Elrond chose to live as an elf and take many great struggles upon his shoulders, and Elros decided to live as a human and fade into obscurity. Elrond also had twin sons, but they didn't make it into the movies They helped lead the Gray Company, and helped Aragon during the War of the Ring.
I wouldn’t properly call becoming the first King of Numenor and eventually spawning also the lines of kings of both Gondor and Arnor “fade into obscurity” thought
@@thewanderingmistnull2451 Well, I mean, if you go that far in the future then Elrond will be forgotten by the mortal races as well by that time, since he left for Valinor at the end of the 3rd Age, no?
Fun fact Aragorn is a direct descendant of Elros meaning Arwen and Aragorn are first cousins 63 times removed... meaning in most states in the United States they couldn't legally marry.
Um, actually, honing and sharpening knives is not determined by time, its determined by use. You could sharpen a knife and let it sit for years and it would still be sharp if you dont use it🤷♂️
@@bramvanduijn8086 I'd be impressed if you could find a piece of 300 year old iron that was sharp 300 years ago and still is just as sharp without any maintenance in the intervening years or like sitting in oil the entire time. Would it still be able to cut you? Maybe, but the finer the edge the sharper the blade and the faster it would corrode. The real question comes down to what we define as sharp.
In one of the first few episodes I saw her in, she would always buzz in as soon as the statement was finished, but then would slowly stall for time while trying to think of the answer which she didn't actually know yet.
Um actually, even though this is a 2 years old reupload, in the comics Negan only killed Glenn as Abraham had already been killed ealier by Dwight shooting a crossbow bolt through his right eye.
yea but kirkman said they changed it in the show cause he didn't like how Abraham went out in the comics and him being defiant of Neegan seemed like a more him way to go out
Um, actually they only killed Abraham in the show to make us comic readers have 3 minutes of relief that Glenn had a chance to survive. And then they ripped our hearts out all over again. :-(
I love this show and the energy of each contestant you have had on this show. Every you have had Amy on this show she is just so adorable for how supportive and competitive she is lol
In the spirit of the game, I named ten - Gandalf, Dr. Strange, Dumbledore, Merlin, Oz the great and powerful, Jafar, Schmendrik, Tim, Willow, and Constantine. I guessed Mr. Morrell for Jonathan Strange, though.
The vast majority of brake pads are not asbestos anymore. And yeah you could sharpen a knife on a brake pad, but with the right technique it can be done on just about any hard surface. I've seen knives sharpened on a brick from dull to splitting hairs
John Wick is not a good fit either, he's not really that much of an action hero, especially in the Hellbazer comics. He's more akin to a noir detective and con man.
he actually did have a different made up wizard name in the original script but while filming the scene John Cleese forgot it and ad-libbed Tim as a joke but they just rolled with it and finished the scene then kept it as it was funnier
Tim Hunter stumping the guys isn't so weird when you realize the cover artist for the early HP books probably outright swiped the look. Or Rowling herself (she's swiped a lot of words, characters and names from other franchises, and always pretends she never ever heard of any of them - these days I don't trust her any further than I can throw her).
I felt Amy so hard during that Mearls question even though I totally would have been in the boat judging her if she'd gotten it wrong because I'm a terrible, terrible hypocrite. Much love, Vorpahl
Love the show, please keep it up! Random dumb idea: “Blue Shell” Question” where the person with the least points can knock a point off the person with the most.
There's so many more episodes of Um Actually on Dropout than the selection here and there's new themed quarantine eps. It is totally worth it if you can swing it.
Yeah I really want to get it at some point too i just feel so bad that their parent company dropped them and ive only ever really enjoyed the longer form content they produce
Well when presenting individuals from multiple different universes, specific in universe definitions don't apply. So the real world usage of the words, specifically that they are essentially synonymous, wins out.
Um, Actually: what Becca said at the end is probably the worst knife-care advice you could listen to. Sharp knives are indefinitely safer than dull knives, as dull knives require more force to achieve the same results as a sharp knife, which means they are more prone to slipping and consequently more likely to cause injuries, and on top of that they don’t cut cleanly, which can result in far more damage to your tissue, as it’s essentially tearing it and not just cleanly slicing it.
If we go with the half-elf quarter-elf logic then Arwen is a 15/16th elf, with Aragorn's bloodline being so crowded with humans even though his ancestor was Elrond's brother, their children would be close to being half-elven again.
That would actually be an awesome idea! That'd be the perfect way to balance the game. If u get/have dropout u should totally recommend it on the discord
Umm actually whetstone usage varies on how often/heavily you use your knives, the material of the blade, and user preference. A lot of professional cooks sharpen their knives monthly or weekly
Um Actually, Depending on the composite of the knife and/or specific blade, you should either use a honing tool or a whetstone and not a combination of the two. However, a whetstone is the general preferred sharpening method of most professional kitchens. Also, I got 8 wizards and was pretty pleased with myself.
No. A Whetstone and a honing tool are used for different objectives. A Whetstone is for sharpening a honing tool is used for honing (straightening an already formed edge)
I was so happy when she knew what a niffin was, and that The Magicians were basically mentioned two times in one episode (Q being one of the wizards). I never hear anywhere about it, and the show is amazing. I think in episode with Siobhan, Julia was there as a witch on the board. I really need to rewatch it!
Man, dragons are awesome for breaking a game. You really gotta throw those things out there and see what happens more often. I'm in one party where we rescued a young white dragon who'd been captive by some Kobold's since hatching and wanted out. She's tagged along cause we keep feeding her and giving her a share of the loot. Then she drew from the deck of many things...and...got the Balance card. NOW she's Lawful Good. Who'da guessed.
3:30 _Arya Stark avenging the death of Syrio Forel._ Um, actually you never see Syrio dead in the show _or_ in the book. In fact, there’s implications in the book that Syrio escapes Meryn Trant because he’s grumpy following House Stark’s slaughter.
Um, Actually ; at 10:11 you can see on the scoreboard that Becka has 4 points, the next immediate time the scoreboard is visible you see she has 5 points, roughly 10:14, then Mike says he'll give the points and you see it change from 4 to 5 points.
Um Actually...Negan isn't a sociopath. He understands and demonstrates emotion very well, as well as makes true personal connections to others i.e. Carl and Judith.
technically you can use a break pad to sharpen a knife , you can also use the bottom of a mug or ceramic plate , a welding rod , the back side of a tile and many more house hold items ,as for honing you can use the edge of a sink , the edge of a mug , the edge of a tile can also work though not as good , I've also used a stainless steel for or spoons handle ,the spine of another knife and the list goes on . I like to add that i do have a variety of honing steels and many wet stones in my house but i am often too lazy to reach over to the drawer they are at when there is a mug right in front of me .I am a very lazy procrastinating person
Um actually, in both the L. Frank Baum book (chapter 11) and the 1939 film adaptation, the wizard identifies himself as "Oz," though, as pointed out by Erik Waters, his full name (at least prior to arrival at the land of Oz) is Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkle Emmannuel Ambroise Diggs (OZPINHEAD). I think the real question becomes what is a name? Is it what we call ourselves or what others call us? In both cases, I think an argument could be made that he changed his name to Oz.
@@erikwaters Yes, I gave myself an extra bonus shiny point (not redeemable for a point on the quiz or a point in the game) for putting down his full name. I got a full 10 wizards on this (kicking myself only for missing Urza, as I've played M:TG for the past 24 years), much better than my showing on the dragons question on a previous show (where I only got 4)
Their banter about "half-elf" in LotR is surprisingly accurate. Yeah, the Valar thought this is such a rare incidence that they could just be their own thing. It also specifically means in their bloodline that an immortal half elf can choose mortality. Elrond's brother did so and it led to Aragorn's bloodline.
Um, actually... are we sure Syrio Forel is dead? Arya escapes when he fights the gold cloaks and according to fan theory is sent down to the black cells and rejoins Arya as Jaqen H'ghar.
spotted Rincewind straight away on the shiney. yall need to read discworld if you havent already, and if you have..... you need to read them all again.
