In this video, I do a simple paper towel roll test. This video is for ClassicTVMan1981X: Ben Edge. The machines I demo are a modified Kirby Dual Sanitronic 80 and Classic 1CR.
In my opinion, Ben, I think the D80 would still win. When I put the D80 against the Diamond the other day, however, the Diamond held onto the roll. It all depends on how the nozzles are adjusted. The 2 main things the Diamond had in its favor are the fan case gasket and slightly stronger motor. They have improved over the years and seal better. The older machines can get closer to the floor without scraping it: an advantage over the newer models. The air pressure increases when the nozzles are forced closer to the floor. In conclusion: I guess it depends on the design, airflow and how well it is sealed; you can't necessarily go by the fan type or nozzle size every time.
Metal Fan Kirby Vacuum Sure Thom. I just recently did a major service on my Diamond and I plan to do a video of it soon. I will also show the attachments, too, because I cleaned them all as well.
+Charles Lewis Yep, that was the reason why I lowered the nozzle on the Classic one more notch. The numbers on the height adjustment are the same, but it does seem like it is higher that the D80 and on back.
Actually, on the very first Classic 1CRs built in 1970, they had the exact same fan case and front axle as the Dual Sanitronic 80, so on those examples the nozzle would sit at the same height as the D80 (this also means that, during this phase of production, the front wheels for the 1CR were secured to the axle using the extension screws that many older Kirbys had later on when rebuilt). Kirby changed the front axle for the 1CR shortly after production started, allowing not only for a higher maximum height, but the front wheel studs were also lengthened so that the regular 10-32 x 3/8 screws could be used with the new wide front wheels; the fan case was redesigned later due to Kirby owners complaining of the machine shutting off inadvertently when the nozzle was adjusted lower.
+Matt Jones yes, medium pile. we are planning to get new carpet hopefully. its really matted down. I am getting a miracle head for my classic. maybe that will bring the carpet back to life. if we do I will in sister my room has shag 😊
