I, again, convert my D80 to using disposable bags. This time, however, I found a green, aftermarket bag that matches perfectly. The color on this one is closer to the original more than the genuine replacement shake-out bags. The airflow is excellent and it is completely sanitary. This bag is held up and closed off with a metal slide and the inner bag is a HEPA disposable. All parts are:
new/old stock green aftermarket 'Kirby' bag
Heritage/ Legend mini emtor
fill tube
top bag adapter
metal bag slide with ball chain
HEPA cloth poly disposable inner bag

That's awesome! And the bag is the old slide clamp style but green for a D80. That's a neat find! So incognito with no zipper, man that's super cool idea to convert any of the slide clamp style bags. And it puffs up just like a normal shakeout bag. Beyond cool that's a sharp D80 and sounds like new.

Yeah, it was a pretty unique thing. I liked that you could keep the original 'look' to it but have HEPA filtration. I sold this machine awhile back. It was a great vacuum and had a ton of airflow.

@@braydencordrey8544 Yes, I did. I also used the round top adapter and a fill tube run up through the bottom of the bag.

I cant seem to find the metal slide with chain, is that from a nother model kirby?

Check www.kirbyneeds.com. There are metal bag slides and other bag toppers on there. The metal slide fits models 505-561, specifically, but the bag in the video required one. If the bag is open-top, it will require a metal bag slide. If the bag has a zipper pocket, it will use the bag hanger/ vinyl top.

Thats cool, my biggest fear with older kirby would be emptying, is it easy to convert them

It's a matter of preference. I wound up converting my 519 back to using a shake-out bag the last time I serviced it. I take it outside on the deck and empty it over the deck rails. It isn't as bad as all that as long as you empty it on a regular basis. Some people make the mistake of letting those bags fill up too much and then it becomes a dust storm.

Update: I wound up converting my 519 back to HEPA filtration for the best air quality. It isn't hard to do; you basically need a Heritage 2-Legend 2 mini emtor, fill tube and top bag adapter. Zip ties will hold it together. I was fortunate enough to find a tan, open-top outer bag to match the color scheme, but you can use a black one and use the bag slide. If you want a zipper bag, the color choices are Tradition blue, Heritage orange and Heritage 2 gray. You just use the hardware your machine has to hold the bag up.

That's a neat conversion. I've thought of converting a Heritage I to receive F Style, but I'm concerned about suction loss. I have though, replaced the original fill tube with the F Style tube, but I kept the style 2 bag hookup, and the original Sani-Emtor. Just not sure if I would want to change it, because I've heard of having a loss of suction. Have you heard of this?

If you do experience some, it is because of the filter media and/ or fan. Check out the video I did of the D80 vs the Classic. The Classic 1CR has the metal fan and shake-out bag, and the D80 has the new, plastic fan, HEPA filtration with Tradition bag and mini EmTor and a 4 row roller brush. The D80 still had plenty of airflow ;-)

Matt Jones That is good to hear. I will likely convert it soon, then. Does the metal fan, in your experience have better airflow than the lexan or Kevlar, or worse?

Most of the time, the metal one provides slightly more. However, the newer ones work well enough. And, they are more durable, well balanced and less load on the motor.

@@mattjones7621 it's actually made if the trademarked AMODEL fan polymer fir is like yard rubber characters when hit by rock or coin, vs the brittle metal or plastic yet it melts too easily tho on the inflator ER DEFLATOR MODE as around 500 degrees Fahrenheit is the temp of its melting point of this makes it not suitable for replacing the metal kirby fan so metal remains better imho whishing fir there to magically be the metal ones in my 2006 made sentria

@@bsanchez3563 Yes, that is right. It is Amodel. So far, I have never had one break on me and I have vacuumed up some hard objects. I have, also, never had one melt on me, either. The metal fan is still good, but the Amodel fan is lighter on the motor. You can still break the metal fan, because I have broken a couple. They are still tougher than the Lexan fans. I absolutely hate those things.

What a beautiful machine you have there man! May I ask where u purchased the bag? your vac reminds me of Kirby from the movie brave little toasters haha, not sure if you have ever seen it but it jump started my love for vacuums when I was a kid.

Thanks! I found the bag on eBay. It is an aftermarket bag with the open-top and metal slide. I had converted it to using disposable bags for awhile, until I sold it. It was a great machine. Yes, The Brave Little Toaster was my favorite childhood movie, and Kirby was my favorite character. In the book, the vacuum was a Hoover. It made more sense for it to be a Kirby in the movie.

Matt Jones so funny! It was my favorite movie as a kid also! And of coarse Kirby was my favorite, and yea I remember reading that the original was a Hoover from the book, but I'm sure it lacked the personality of Kirby :) nice to see other guys with the same interests. +Terry B It is pretty cut and dry but, the next time I do a conversion, I will film it. I bought a brown one for my 519; it will be a long while before I can get to it.

Unfortunately not, William. I found it on ebay. You may be able to locate one. I typed in something like 'Kirby cloth bag' or 'Kirby outer cloth bag.'
