That looks like a complete Kiss collection right there. My Kiss albums all head the blue Casablanca label. It wasn't until Rock and Roll Over that the beige coloured labels came out. Must be a Canadian thing. I don't recall my Rock and Roll Over album being a gatefold. I have NEVER seen that one Kiss album where all the solo albums were on one album. Wow! I remember I stopped buying Kiss albums after hearing about how bad Unmasked was and then people were saying Kiss just isn't Kiss anymore without Ace. There sound definitely changed after Ace left, but I bought Smashes, Thrashes and Hits and I thought they sounded pretty good. After that I was back buying Kiss albums again. Maria H Couldn't agree more, the departure of Ace (and Peter to some degree) radically changed their sound. Ace was pretty well checked out on Unmasked and Elder, legend has it that when he was handed the demo cassette of the latter, he threw it down the street and stomped off. Thankfully, Creatures of the Night was a huge return. I truly believe that album saved their careers, Kiss has always been a brand before a band and it's two masterminds are chameleons when it comes to keeping up with trends. I've never been able to lock onto just Kiss and forsake all others but I've had a blast collecting and listening to them in parallel with other stuff over the years and am always learning more everyday. The video we've all been waiting for...we wanted the video, we got the video...the biggest artist collection in my big bro's room...KISS! Very nice dude, great editing by the way. I'm sure this one could've easily went for almost 2 hours lol. Had no idea that you had all those West German pressings, that's some dedication right there! I def need to do some upgrading to the KISS Kollection here. Got pretty much everything...save for 'Hot In The Shade' and a few others...ehh, the cd's will do fine for those. Damn reissues make me wonder if I should skip a bill or 3 if I want any of em lol. Onto the albums themselves, 'Dressed To Kill' is my personal fave of the 1st 3. I think it's just more of a sentimental thing since that was the 1st of those albums that I heard as a kid. You and I have had many conversations bout 'The Elder' and I know I'll never sway you, but u gotta at least give Ace credit for his work on that album. Even if he hates that album, it's still got some merit in there...just gotta look really deep for it...REALLY deep lol. 'Animalize' is an AMAZING piece of 80s hard rock, such a great album! Oh man, I remember playing 'Asylum' for the Mrs a few years ago...the look on her face was pretty memorable. She won't let me forget how much she hates that album. Needless to say, that one only gets spun when I'm home alone...or if I've got headphones on ;). Before this comment turns into a novel, I'm cutting it off here. At ease, Sir Lj! I have to admit that I was a bit surprised to see that you have so many German pressings! When I was a kid and I started to collect records, up to "Lick It Up" all we had were basically German pressings. I still haven't seen any Finnish pressings of any KISS albums in any VC video. I have a video waiting to be released (so to speak) in which I'll be showing my Finnish copy of "Animalize". By the way that video has that "I'm The Man" request by you. I think I'll released next week. "Unmasked" and "(Music From) The Elder have a special place in my collection because my record collecting started when I bought "Unmasked" back in November 1983 and in October 1983 "The Elder" was the very first cassette that I ever bought. Very cool Kiss collection LJ! I really should get some more Kiss. You know, I used to be a huge Kiss fan as a kid. (A Dutch pressing of) Killers was my very first record. My second record was Kiss too, this time a German pressing of Animalize. And both of them are still in my record shelf and in surprisingly good condition. Like you said, those were the days when the records were loved! Some time ago most of their recent reissues were on sale for 15,95 € which is a very good price around here. I still regret I did not grab some of them. Creatures of the Night is without a doubt my favorite Kiss album. And their heaviest one too! I wonder she the kiSS logo is different on German pressings... ;)
TheVinylCorner Yeah, they're still a little sensitive about that logo huh? I can even imagine how much of a chore it is to always change it. Did you see the back cover of Alive? I know I flashed it fast but even the poster the kids are holding is changed and there was no Photoshop then! Killers and Animalize are a great way to start off a KISS collection and I'm with you all the way on Creatures! 16 Euro is a steal for the reissues, I definitely think they'll start showing up cheaper like that, on-sale, etc. here and there. They came out at $35 US for single albums and $50 US for 2-LP sets here at first which is just insane. I grabbed Revenge and Psycho Circus here but Alive II, III and IV all came from a UK seller and thankfully cheaper, even after shipping, than they are in the States. Nice collection!! Some of your LP's are PolyGram reissues. The first album with Nothin' to Lose live and your Dressed to Kill without the raised lettering. You can see the mfg by PolyGram on the LP label ring.
Finally! I knew eventually you'd get around to making this particular video. For as few KISS albums/CD's I actually own, I know a good bit of the music from start to... (I was gonna say finish, but that's probably not the case). I actually have more of their DVD's than I do anything else! I have a home burn (my) best of CD that I've compiled over the years from owning some vinyl, plus a few CD's, but mostly mp3 files from reputable services. I also ripped a few live songs from the DVD's. Other than those first three classic recordings and the Alive album, my favorite, hands down, is Sonic Boom. I also like a good bit of their 80's work with Bruce and Vinnie. What I do want, however, is that Unplugged album. I love their sound on that recording. It's really fun to play along with if you play guitar, mostly because the tuning is constant (e flat), and the variety is stellar. It's a picture of them at their absolute best as musicians and live performers, showcasing some of their best material. That's no easy thing to say about a rock band known for it's arena sized bombast, so to pull that off while playing live on acoustic instruments says a lot!
siskokidd Yeap, this one's been requested and put off forever (not forever like Hot in the Shade forever but like ok just film it and get it over with forever). I knew you weren't a huge fan but Kiss is pretty amazing that for four decades, they've managed to work their way into the fabric of just about everyone's lives and there really isn't many a soul walking the planet or otherwise that wouldn't know them by face, sound or name. That, along with the Unplugged recording, your right, is pretty damn amazing. I remember the Unplugged set being a very big deal. Of course MTV hung the whole concept out to dry by milking it for every penny until we were all sick as shit of it but that's what they do best and we got a handful of great albums and memorable performances out of it before the format thankfully faded away into 90's obscurity. It was fanboy wild to see them all on stage and in the same building and that set list was really something. I don't have the remaster but for years that original was insanely difficult to track down. That said, I'm told the remaster sounds fantastic and if the ones I have picked up so far are any indication, you wouldn't be disappointed if you grabbed a copy. Wow! That Rock and Roll Over gatefold is awesome! Music From the Elder has a few good songs. Two of the best tracks were written by Ace ("Dark Light" and the instrumental "Escape From the Island").
Scott Waters That gatefold is one of few Kiss images that honestly took my breath away. Seeing pictures of them is so common that for one to grab you and just make you stare these days is a rarity. Given the popularity and reissues, it's crazy to think Kiss lp's are tricky to find anywhere in the world. Great great great video. Some later pressings of Destroyer (80s?) lacked the tripped out coda at the end of side 2. Interesting that some Kiss fans don't care for Gene's theatrical, over the top 1978 solo album. Ace's song Dark Light from the Elder is awesome.

Groupies come home? Excellent! Where can i order? I remember in the 80's when i first saw the German version of Double Platinum i thought it must be a joke.It looked to me like it was done by somebody who didn't care about the quality. Today i look at it as a curio,it's got the most different cover between any of the European and American pressings. Of the last years re-issues i only bought those i hadn't originally and of course the two never before available on vinyl. Of the rest,now i only want Dressed to Kill(US press because i'm told it's better quality),for the embossed cover and the blue Casablanca label. I am missing some of the inserts,but the only one i really want is the poster from Dynasty.I'm only hoping that i'll be strong enough not to buy the reissue just to get that. But if you can tell me what is the difference between me wanting to buy Dressed for the aforementioned things and not buying Dynasty for basically the same thing,you're smarter than me. Double Platinum truly is the one that seems to be the most strikingly different although the extremely darkened cover of Alive! is a close second, isn't it?). I'm in the same boat with regard to picking up the reissues. Ones I didn't have (Psycho Circus, Alive III, etc.) are welcome and the others will come in time, no rush. The sound quality of those I've bought (all EU pressings save for Psycho Circus) has been fantastic and I too like that they reverted to the blue Casablanca labels. First of all, great channel! I've been a Kiss fan since I was a kid myself as I was born in 73. Unfortunately I treated my records like crap when I was little and lost them along the way. I just got back into vinyl a year ago and bought most of the reissues. It was last year from a seller on eBay. When I opened the box I nearly fell over as the seller included the Kisstory book signed by all four members! The message said Merry Christmas! Anyway, keep up the great work! Could you tell me the name of the shelving you have from IKEA? I'm running out of room! Rock on!

If I were to buy Creatures Of The Night I would buy the Brazil-pressed verionen, with Vinnie Vincent on the cover. Unfortunately are the versions I found so terribly expensive.
Ultimate Vinyl Collector Definitely a cool piece for the collection but since the cover doesn't change the music, I'd much rather have US and UK pressings than wait for the Brazilian pressing. There's no shortage of Kiss collectibles out there. It would take multiple lifetimes to own them all. - Lj

I see that you have multiple copies of each one and a copy from Germany of most of them. Is there a particular edition that you prefer? Is the audio quality better in some editions than others? I'm checking out some at Discogs, they're very cheap and I hope they're in good conditions... What do you think of "I Was Made For Loving You"? I remember listening to it a lot in the 80's, unfortunately that was the only song from Kiss on the Mexican radio and it was played incessantly, so that's one of the reasons I didn't listen to them, I thought their music was like that and I didn't like disco very much... Now I changed my mind after listening to Destroyer, Alive and Love Gun... Great video man, it's always great to watch a new video from you...

I'm sure there's some really crappy Singapore pressings, etc. but besides that, you should be fine with whatever you grab. I've always thought I Was Made For Lovin' You was a cool track. Much cooler live than studio but so are most Kiss tracks. It got played to death here too, thankfully, I was too young to really remember! Joe Spencer Hey Joe! The sleeves are just standard issue, very easy to find on eBay. I've noticed sleeves are wildly different in the UK though as there's sleeves there that fit gatefolds, etc. There's absolutely no such thing in the US. I don't normally consider it a Kiss album which is why I tend to overlook it when it comes to ranking them. As far as Ace solo albums go though, it's tied with the newest one, Space Invader as my favorite. seriously, Space Invader, for me, is just that good. Sonic Boom, I thought was just about as good as Monster. They're very similar. If you dig Monster, you'd love Sonic Boom. Paul Chafe Thanks Paul, glad you dug it. The lunched copies are from yard and garage sales and never more than .50. The most common used copies I tend to see in shops are Destroyer and the solo albums as far as the 70's goes and Animalize, Unmasked and Crazy Nights from the 80's. That’s a great collection but you may want to do more research on what is a first press. Just because it has the blue Bogart label, doesn’t mean it’s the first press. There are later press is this still had the blue Bogart label. The Filmworks labels did not come out until 1976. For example, they could’ve pressed the first record for sale in 75 as a second or third press End it still would’ve had the blue label.
Hi LJ, nice Kiss collection my friend, last week-end i just posted a video of my little Kiss vinyl collection, i only have 6 records, i have the 4 solo albums and they are all U.S. pressings, i bought them sealed after i went to see Kiss in concert in 1979, and they all have the order forms for buying stuff like Kiss chains and all kind of stuff, is it common?
Serge Francoeur Hi Serge! The merch forms and posters were standard inclusions int he US pressings of the four solo albums. That's common. What's not common is to find them still included 30+ years later and probably even less common is to have them still in the hands of the original owner! That's awesome! easy way to tell if its a UK pressing, price tages or codes, like some shops or chairty's more you get just an empty CD or DVD case as this stops anyone from nicking them back in the day it was the same for record so most stores (i think up until the 80's when they started to seal them up with wrapper like you see one newer records) they would write a code on the inside as most record sleve didn't have the hole to see the album so a number was put and you got it now this seems stupid but saves on time your in a store with like 20 kids wantin that album or buying record when ther sale do you really want to look around for that record? or see the code and know its that one. 2nd is the price tags, if it has a £ symbol then its english plus check the inside cover you might find a date of when it was in the shops 3rd is spelling so if a track has color that usa if it has colour
On the original vinyl Australian pressing of Dynasty under neath the kiss logo in brackets it says "including I was made for loving you" I'm not sure if it says that on the cassette version but of course it says that on the Australian pressing because it was so big here and I'll be honest even though I really like the rest of the album I never liked that track that much even when I was a kid even though today if someone puts it on at a party I won't mind.

It's not jusy because it's disco I like another one bites the dust by Queen (which is kinda wierd how Queen got away scot free for doing a disco tune and kiss got so much hate) but come to think of it I would probley hate it if I was around back then and I was a kiss fan
Glad you enjoyed it a second time around. Impossible to ever get enough of a band like Kiss. The German pressings kind of just turn up here and there. Definitely not an everyday thing but hang in there and keep your eyes peeled in the shops. Every now and then, they surface when you least expect them too. - Lj
Hey Lj, great video. I would have loved to hear more in depth on your opinions on the albums but, I understand the video would be over an hour. I realized something while watching, you don't have the Creatures of the Night 1985 reissue without make-up. Have you come across one yet and it was too expensive, or is it that scarce? I found a copy, however the vinyl itself is from the 1982. I was sad but I still like having the cover.
Mckewanman Very good catch. That said, I also don't have the Carnival of Souls reissue but that's largely because I don't like that album and the price is just silly at the moment. Re the later Creatures release, I've just not found it in the wild for one reason or another. I'm sure it wouldn't be more than a $10 used lp and it will show up eventually. Its actually been kind of fun waiting for it to happen. Sorry to hear you found a switched out copy, that's wild! My first album was Kiss Lick it Up cassette but I traded it to my brother for AC/DC Flick of the Switch been a big AC/DC fan ever since. My brother is a big kiss fan but I like them both
Charlie Thompson Hi Charlie. Both are fantastic albums although I'd say I like Lick It Up just a bit better. Flick of the Switch, I thought was the last great AC/DC album until Razor's Edge. The one's in-between are good but Flick was just fantastic. Thanks for tunin' in! - Lj

a 45 min vid on all the kiss stuff you have......yeah i'd see that why not? to be percise 1974 was the first kiss album let see, "pulls out draw" okay we have kiss, kiss destroyer, kiss love gun, kiss alive 2, kiss creatures of the night, all of them except for alive 2 are on casablanca cassettes, alive 2 is on it but it has the white sticker not the dark green verson, moving on we hve kiss craazy nights i think my first kiss album then we have kiss asylum, and the rare single from bill and ted's bogus journey god gave rock and roll to you which was a hit from the earily 70's other then that i only have kiss alive 2 on album and the album from the film not bill and ted the other one with the brown cover and a table
+sirmugman To be even ore precise, the first Kiss lp was in fact recorded in Oct 1973. It was released in Feb 1974. Nice collection. Save for a couple of missteps, there's no going wrong with Kiss. By brown cover and table, do you mean Music From the Elder? If so, that wasn't a film but a concept album and the table isn't a table but a door. Thanks for tunin' in! - Lj

bro those aren't the first presses of KISS -Kiss. They are on the Blue label casablanca labels which sound Quite better in Mastering. Hotter than help also a blue Label casablance (with the large print around bottom) not the small print style (like) you have on your Third press alive. Alive First press silver writing large print, second black print large writing, Third press silver with the small print around the bottom edge of the LP label, Dressed to kill blue label large print. Alive not first press. Destroyer not a first press should be all silver print not black. Thats not a rock n roll over it has a unique desert scene only on it and the originals US version. thats the real love gun though Id recommend a/b-ing multiple copies so the sound mates the rest of a first press, from a newer stamper. The alive II can't say you didnt show yours. Thats not a first press paul or the first press cover. The west Germany has the correct cover. The second dynasty is the correct press but there were Multiples can't vouch for sound. Its also not east to a/b them. I have 4-5. Thats not the real elder the song listing on the back is not the original way. Just thought you'd be interested to know. The only thing that sounds like the "memories" we all remember are the versos Ive described. cool video. !!
