Amy, I've had my Kitchen Aid Pro Food Processor with the dicer since it became available for sale. When I first got the machine, I searched for instructional videos so I could understand my attachments. All I could find were videos showing the machine in use and the end result, but never any videos on how to use the attachments. I finally gave up! I decided to try again today in hopes that since a few years have passed someone might have done an instructional video. I am so happy I stumbled upon your video in my search. Thanks for taking the time to show us how to actually assemble the dicer for use in the machine!

Hi Amy - I'm so glad I found this video! I bought my Kitchenaid about 10 months ago and have constantly struggled with the dicer. I'm so glad to see it's not that I am doing anything wrong, it's just that the dicer isn't great at some of the things I'm trying to use it with (especially tomatoes!) Thank you

Really helpful video, thanks Amy. My KA came with a full set of tools in the UK, including the dicer, and had its first use today. The dicer was assembled and in the storage box with all the other accessories. The dicer is very tight when assembled and extremely difficult to take apart. I used a little vegetable oil on the points of contact and that helped. It diced well but did jam several times. Diced celery, carrot, radish and onion much quicker than I could have done even allowing for cleaning.

I just bought one on the kitchen aid website, a closeout with 10% off of my first purchase, bottom line $261 total w/tax! It comes delivered to my house in 5 days from now. THANKS for the review. I have a 14c K.Aid now, and I'm giving it to my boyfriend who has a small one now and loves what a food processor does. A food processor enables a person's diet to include more leafy greens, which I chop up and keep in the refrigerator for EVERYTHING, even to put on top of a CAKE before I bake it!

Thank you for this video. I saw the dicer attachment on the Canadian Shopping Channel and I had considered getting it. But after looking at your video it looks to me like it's very clumsy and awkward to assemble and take apart. Can probably get it done faster with a knife. I also like the dice a little bit bigger than that. So thank you for saving me some money.

Amy, I LOVE your videos! Have you tried the “professional dicing kit” on the 13 cup KA food processor? It is super fast and has a 1/2” dice. Plus it’s way less complicated to put together. 3 parts: base with grid, rotating blade that pushes the food through the grid, and a locking lid with the right size chute. Super fast!!!

I watched your review of this machine and many others several times before deciding to buy this machine. It was a close race between the KitchenAid and the Breville. In the end, having a KitchenAid Classic Plus stand mixer that has lasted many years and gives great service was a deciding factor. I love it! The dicer is just as you describe it. Buying the 12mm dicer might be a good idea for some people, perhaps it should be the "standard included dicer". For some reason this machine is a lot better than most of the reviews I read about it, even on the KitchenAid website. I think it has the potential of gaining the same status as the KitchenAid stand mixer, given time. I bought a refurbished unit, and ordered the optional items. I think to get real value and use out of a food processor it's important to have as many features as possible. Considering the price of the unit it should include all the options and be NSF certified for commercial use. Thanks for helping me make an informed choice. I love your product reviews as much as your cooking videos.

Mark, we're glad you enjoyed the video and helped you make your tough decision. It has gotten to the point where I hit up Amazon for reviews anytime I spend $20 and up. Too bad most reviews were harder on the KA than what you found out in person. The refurb ones are a great value. Good that you could get enough attachments to make this useful. I usually figure as long as you can use it right away and buy from a dependable place that offers a refund in case it doesn't work the way you want it to, then you can't go wrong. Right? So hopefully you'll get lots of use out of it. Glad you enjoy our videos. Thank you for watching and your comment.

Wow I amin the same boat, tossing up between the Breville and the Kitchenaid food processors, which one to buy, I also own a KA bowl lift stand mixer....just not convinced the KA food processor is as good as the Breville, the Breville peels potatoes in seconds...

Thank you for this video...it is very honest...i was thinking of buying one, but after seeing this demonstration I think you have saved me a lot of money....I was also comparing the Breville Soux Chef Food Processor, it also dices but guess what it peels potatoes, they sting you extra if you want the larger dicing kit around $150 bux, but after watching a couple of demonstrations of the Breville I would probably buy the Breville instead of the Kitchenaid....Kitchenaid are a great brand for stand mixers, I have a heavy duty bowl lift stand mixer, it is brilliant...but I just can't see that Kitchenaid have matched the brilliance in performance with their food processors at all. Love to see a Breville Food Processor video done by you...

I love that you made this video. It really helped me figure out if I should get one. First off, I think this definitely worth it if you are dicing a lot of vegetables for a huge recipe or even for a large family meal. It would be worth the set up and the cleanup. However, I'm sitting here thinking I need one to chop one onion for one dinner. I wasn't sure if this kind appliance was for my needs (in my case, want) Thank you so much for making this review! Amy, I have a 13-cup KA food processor with a dicing kit and had the same problem at first with small dices. I moved the slicing level in the front to the thickest level and the dicing came out bigger. I noticed you had yours mid way. It made a big difference to me.

HI I had the same model and it worked well for me I think they recommended letting the machine run for a little before pushing the veg through :) this avoids getting jammed, also I agree it’s too finely chopped and this makes it release a lot of liquid.

+Mardie Scott Mardie, this wasn't that hard to use/figure out. But to cut that many different things and to clean between each use was not fun. If you're gonna dice things that are all going together, like onions and peppers or a mirepoix, then I'd say to save time, just run that poker thing to clear out the square cutter and do the next vegetable. But for a 'how to use it' video, we needed this to be as clear as possible, thus kind of a pain to have to wash it so many times. But, we went through a lot of veggies. Amy made a lot of things out of all that. Heck, I might just get my five servings/day of veggies this week. LOL!!!!
@AmyLearnsToCook
@AmyLearnsToCook 8 лет назад
+Mardie Scott Thanks Mardie! I was fumbling around with it when I first tried to put it together. I played with it a few times before I shot the video. nice, if not a bit "dicey", the cut it is doing is called a "bruinwasse" - french, sorry if I may have miss spelled it; you can replicate this with a chef's knife, just cut the veg into small match sticks (called Julienne- another french word), sized about two inch long, then cut these into squares. They are this size because you need to serve a soup with this veg as a garnish, and have it fit onto the spoon without going everywhere!! the reason for the jams are because the food is too dense/ hard for this machine, heavy duty versions by "HOBART", SIRMAN, etc. are e.g.'s of industrial machines used by hotels , nursing homes and others; the dicers in theese machines can cut ICE into snow without any worries (and in two secconds flat!!).

So curious about how this compares to one of those new Breville Sous Chef Peel and Slice guys. I know you like your Breville food processor as do I mine but DANG I wish the peel & slice one had been available when I bought my Sous Chef 16 Pro a few years ago! From the few videos that exist I'd say the Peel & Slice is much more powerful, quiet and sturdy compared to this Kitchen Aid. Also very curious which chops larger pieces (including the newer KA version which one of your commenters wrote exists now).
@Ayram9
@Ayram9 6 лет назад
p.s. I do know that I can buy the peel and slice kit for my older Sous Chef for $200 I think it was (?) which may be worth it at some point. If I get arthritis in my hands someday I'm definitely going to want the peeler, even if it does take off just a bit more of the potato or leaves on a few bit of skin here and there. Would still probably cut my peeling time down to 1/4 of the time as well as effort!

I want to love this as my husband bought it for me and it was very expensive.. But I tend to not use it as its just so time consuming putting the thing together and doesn't always work in the way it should. For instance, you can use the larger bowl that sits inside the main one, but it just ends up dirty too as juices etc seep down the side so you have to wash them both anyway.. The smaller bowl would be fine for what I need, but that can only be used with one attachment.. And I'm quite annoyed this dicing thing doesn't work either! It just mashed up three of my peppers, which defeats the purpose of buying more food in bulk to save money in the long run. I hate being ripped off - if something doesn't work don't sell it! It's that simple. Just work on it further until it does what it should, don't say 'this is the best we can do, it doesn't dice, but let's sell it anyway....' and rip people off. If I had purchased this myself, I would've taken it back.. I feel so bad for my husband :(

I think another trick, is to slightly freeze the soft tomato's! I would use it for dicing chicken and meat. I precook the chicken breast and have the meat frozen enough, that it would go through the machine! Same thing with the cheese, I would slightly freeze it! Nice video but not one time did you show the vegetables going through the shoot. You just show the end result going in the bowel. I would like to see how you stacked the vegetables in there. As far as the celery goes I could not SEE how you stacked them. If u did them one at A time that doesn’t quite work out. I usually take three or four stalks or however many will fit in the shoot and stack them up that way vertically and push them all through at once. That way they support each other and you get a cleaner straighter cut.

Yes, I bought it for Amy's birthday. We will review it. I think comparing it to the 8mm will be helpful. It's too bad when you buy one of these with the dicer, you only get the 8mm, which seems to only work on hard food and seems to be a "fine" dicer, and not a "medium" dicer, which may be more helpful. So a comparison video would be helpful. Thanks for watching.

@EricLearnstoCook 8 лет назад
+missdee212 I thought of freezing it way too late (just made it cold, but not solid). But you're right. I know with the Kitchenaid grinder attachment for the mixer, you're supposed to partially freeze meat and stuff that would otherwise be soft or chewy so that the grinder can feed it without getting all clogged up. I really think 8 mm is too small for cheese anyways. It might be easier to melt if you dice it that small, but I'm thinking bigger (much bigger) chunks would be welcome if used as a snack.

All the jams we saw are caused by the unpropper use of the machine. Before inserting food into the machine the blade should run permanently. If pushing food first and then turning on the machine we have jams, especially if pushing too hard.

@EricLearnstoCook 8 лет назад
+Zoe Aparicio Zoe, I agree with you in general. Most of the time, the food processor is not worth the hassle of setting up and cleaning, unless you are slicing or dicing a lot. If Amy is going to cook up a 5 lbs bag of potatoes (minus peeling and cutting out rotten parts), then a good slicer can save time, especially ones that are dishwasher safe. We spent a lot of time Saturday washing the food processor between each vegetable (quick hand washing). There were so many parts and then the toothpick to get the fine parts. At least there were no parts that we could not get all the food out. This food processor is better than some when it comes to cleaning. Still, it was very time consuming. But, the mirepoix turned out pretty nice.

Great job, Amy. The dicer... not that good. 1. The dicer jammed. 2. The size of the diced vegetables is too small. KA should come up with 2 or 3 sizes. 3. Doesn't work with cheese and tomatoes. 4. The dicer is not user friendly. 5. Probably way to expensive for what it does. My final word - seems to me like it's a waste of money.
@EricLearnstoCook
@EricLearnstoCook 8 лет назад
+jw Thanks for watching the video and commenting. You have a lot of good points. On its own, the dicer feature is not worth the expense or hassle of using to spend $600 new or $250-300 refurb. KA makes a 13 cup food processor that also fits the dicing kit, but is sold separately. However, one of the big 24 hour TV selling channels (think three letters) has sold in the past, a combo deal of dicing kit and food processor. It would have possibly been worth it. But the possibly better deal would have been to pay the $200 for the food processor and the $150 for the upgraded 12 mm dicer. Still, you have to weigh the pros and cons. KitchenAids PROLINE models are always nice, but also always expensive and never on sale, unless you are very careful where you shop online. I would imagine a standalone dicer would be much more effective. I think tomatoes will work if they are roma (aka plumb) tomatoes that have more meat and less liquid. Cheese won't work on that size but might work on the larger one if frozen. Some things you just have to think ahead. News alert....just gave me a thought. You ever saw my french fry videos? I'm thinking my Gander Mountain french fry cutter might just do an interesting job on cheese. Not a dicer, but might make french fry shape that can then be cut with a knife? hmmm. worth a try. I just have to remember to 'pull' and not push the lever, it's much easier. hmmmm. might be a new use for the thing.
@inka3118

+Eric Learns to Cook Yes, Eric, I did see your french fry video. Good idea with trying that cutter on cheese and other vegetables like cucumber, zuccini e.t.c. Who knows, it might work. Wating for a video on that. As for the dicer... KA needs to come up with a much better version. This one is a no, no.
@EricLearnstoCook
@EricLearnstoCook 8 лет назад
+jw Yeah, I agree, but we'll likely waste some money and try the bigger dicer to see if it is any good. We're already $$ into this review, might as get a little more stupid? Yeah, if the French fry cutter works, you'll definitely see a video on it. Might even be funny.

@@snehnandha9198 I can’t get mine apart, I use the spindle that goes down the middle , I use it to spin around the dicing blade under running water to clean, this wouldn’t work though if diced up say meat or cheese, which I avoid for this reason of getting it clean

No money from them on this one. Amy thought the dicer would be fun to use. It seems to be a lot of work. The KA came with this 8mm dicer. We bought a 12mm dicer that we'll test in the future. I think if you wanna dice a ton of stuff, the 12mm might do the job. If you wanna dice a few things, just use a knife.

That was a really bad machine, taken the price into consideration! I will definately not buy this Kitchenaid plastic pile of junk, for sure! I do think a manual dicer can do the work better, and almost as fast. Like the Nemco dicer or something like that. Bad machine but a great review (as always)!

No way! Celery is a BIG RISK because the dicer got JAMMED with the stringy plant and I spent AN HOUR digging out the strings, then found out it MESSED UP the shaft of the machine in the process so that no other attachments would fit the shaft after that so that I could put the lid back on to use it again. I had to RETURN the machine for REPLACEMENT. This happened TWICE with this machine. I gave up on it! The second time it happened I was very careful not to use celery or any other such veggie, only carrots or potatoes, and it STILL RUINED the SHAFT so no attachments would thereafter FIT. I'm sure this is WHY kitcheaid no longer produces this faulty machine. ...just sayin'

Don't do CELERY in that DICING kit operation; it will jam up and you won't be able to get the kit apart without using a rubber hammer and another tool to gradually FORCE the plastic pieces apart without breaking them - I did THAT VERY carefully, because the fibers of the celery will JAM in a horrible way in the kit. Just do celery with the rotary blade if you want the pieces small enough for soup.

Amy, in this video, you are not using the correct blade for Dicing. Watch this on RU-vid and go directly to 5:53 and watch the Animation on how the dicing works ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jp1dudrR4Nc.html I'm not sure why KitchenAid is using a slicing blade for dicing on the ProLine Model. If you order the Dicing Kit from KitchenAid, you'll see the correct blade here www.kitchenaid.com/shop/-[KFP16DC12]-407367/KFP16DC12 Here's the manual to the ProLine Model you have, clearly showing the incorrect Dicing Blade www.kitchenaid.com/digitalassets/KFP1642CA/Use%20and%20Care_EN.pdf

I am not sure...The one I was using was what came with the food processor. It in essence does the same thing. It slices first then pushes it through the square dicing blade. It looks like the slicer on the 13 cup swings around but the Proline is like a regular blade. The end result is pretty much the same.
@datars1
@datars1 6 лет назад
The blade that came with your Proline Food Processor makes it jam too easily. On my Proline Food Processor, it works wonderful with the other blade

This thing is absolute garbage. I bought it two years ago and it will only work on things that are exactly what it wants in terms of firmness. Onions and tomatoes will get trapped in the mechanism causing it to jam and you will spend time clearing them out. The trapping of onion and tomato pieces creates bad leverage that stresses the device. This causes the cheap plastic spindle to break down as these foods get trapped and I started to get pieces of plastic in the food. I've completely abandoned it, and it was one of the main reasons I bought the food processor in the first place. It's clear that creating an automated dicing device isn't easy. I've just purchased a device that really does the job beautifully (a manual device called the Dynacube) but it cost $650, so that says something about what it takes to create a successful automatic dicer.
