KitchenAid Food Processor. Old Kitchenaid food processor models vs. new. Today we are discussing the KitchenAid Food Processor by looking at 4 different models from 2001 and 2011 as well as the current 14 cup & the Proline. The 2001 model was my very first food processor. Along the way, I upgraded a few times but I've held on to my original one. These food processors all have their pros and cons.

The older generations do have the smaller bowl attachment. I bought mine (the first one on the left) and it came with a smaller bowl that fits into the larger bowl, with its own cutting blade, as well as a clear box for all your blades. My lid is showing cracks which brought me here to answer the question whether the new bowls would fit the old machines.

I have the Kitchenaid 670 11 cup like your 2001 one, it did come with a mini bowl - it is still running but when the last of the parts wear out, I will have to replace. Have been watching your videos to decide on the next one!

You don't have KitchenAid's very first food processor. It was made for KitchenAid by Robo-Coupe! Welcome to the frustration of customer support, when a model is discontinued, most of the time, parts are NLA (no longer available) So true of products made in China or Japan or Korea

You say the first two food processors you have there didn't come with Mimi bowls, and I must dispute that. I got my KA 12-cup food processor, the second one from the left, in 2008 and the mini bowl and its accoutrements were standard. That baby is still thrashing away, btw, and nothing fazes it -- and it loves to do bread dough.

Thanks for letting me know that yours is still working. I have that model as well. Have rarely used it because I inherited an early generation Cuisinart from my father (with.a cracked bowl). I had trouble with this KitchenAid at first. Think I was filling the liquid too high. We also had a Sunbeam Oskar. Loved that little workhorse! Oskar's locking sensor no longer works - presenting a major safety hazard. Instead of replacing Oskar I'll give the KitchenAid 750080 another try. Many thanks for your comments. You just save me some money!

Hi Amy, I have a stainless steel die-cast KA food processor that has three bowls, and it's very much like your stainless steel model, but it has the buttons like the second one, and no adjustable slicing blade. It also has the large feed tube. Mine is quite heavy. It's been very reliable. I remember your review of the Breville and how it gave such great slices. Nice review, thanks.

Thanks for this, Amy. My deceased partner bought a refurbished processor like the second one to your right. He passed a few years ago, and I've had an issue figuring out how to set this up without a guide. All I needed was to see that the handle goes in front! 😄

I have the oldest Kitchenaid 11 Cup Ultra Power food processor shown there with the gray trim with small burgundy stripe going around it. I purchased it in 1997 after seeing it advertized in a Cooking Light magazine and it came with the mini bowl. I had the matching Ultra Power blender then and I still have it (blender) and it still works and the food processor still works. When I noticed in Chef's Catalog that Kitchenaid came out with the new model in 2005 shown to the right of the oldest one on the far left, I called Kitchenaid to inquire about purchasing the attachments for the one I had. I purchased every attachment made for that processor and I don't regret it. They told me that after they sell all the attachments that go with mine, they will not make anymore attachments for it since it was being discontinued then. I even purchased a replacement bowl, lid , and blade in case they got damaged in the future.

I’ve always like the older Kitchenaid machines better especially the ones made in France by Robot Coupe. They also used to make Cuisinart as well. Stay away from the two speed motors. They’re cheap and loud. I always buy a machine with a heavy induction motor. They’ll last you a long time and they’re much quieter.
@elkewheeler
@elkewheeler 5 лет назад
Fun video! -- I've destroyed at least 4 food processors due to small motors. The early kitchenaid machines were workhorses (but back then I cheaped out and got less expensive, "pretty" machines). I'd love to see you do a comparison between the 1st and 2nd generation vs today's models with both the food processors AND the mixers. My 30 year old KA 4.5 qt mixer is still chugging out loaves of bread and dozens of cookies every week with zero complaints.
@russ5024
@russ5024 5 лет назад
the newer KitchenAid food processors are not as good as the older ones, make sure you buy a food processor with an induction motor. They do not whine like processors using universal motors , belts or gears.

Hi Amy. I bought the earlier model, second on the left, back in around 2011 in the UK but it has a wider feed tube with a smaller insert tube if needed, also a mini bowl and blade just like the later silver grey model that you've displayed and it also came with a citrus extractor. It's a beautifully made machine, very solid metal body, quiet and extremely powerful. I regularly knead bread dough without difficulty. I have looked at the later silver grey model in a retail store and was shocked by it's light plasticky feel and also the motor power is rated in the UK at 300 watts compared to 650 watts for the earlier model. I don't like the bowl handle on the side of the newer model either becasue the machine takes up more countertop space. The only problem I've had was bowl cracking but I've been able to buy a replacement over here on the internet form Amazon UK. My feeing is that Kitchenaid have traded quality for gimmicks and to maximise profit, no point selling a product that lasts too long! Glad you don't intend to dump it!

My kitchenaid kfp600 is still going like a champ. Made in France, Hobart made the base I think. Bought it in like 1995. Today’s made-to-die cheap stuff made in Asia aren’t “made like they used to” for sure.

Hi Amy, I just found your video today. I want to change my food processor because take a lot place. (it's a Phillips) the motor is good but the blades are difficult to get sharp again. For example I can make my own hazelnutcream, butter and get corn dough to make tortillas I found a second hand KA 2011 una good shape but I wonder if the motor can work more than 10 min continously,, can I give easy mantaince to the blades? The rest of the accessories are secondary but the blades is my first need. I would like to read your advice. Should I buy the KA 5KFPM775? Should I keep my old processor? Thanks in advance and regards from Sweden

I have the 13 cup contour silver model. I have been very disappointed in the quality--it is lightweight, hard to clean (pusher parts), doesn't work that well and the adjustable blade broke right away. The plastic part on top broke off and I had to cement it back on twice. You are right about the buttons--they are so hard to push that I have thought the motor was gone more than once. Buy another brand!

Hi Amy, I have the 2nd one but in 12 cup size came with a 8cup and 4cup bowl with several attachments in a case along with a juicer attachment. Model KFPW760WH1. I purchased from QVC like 16 yrs ago. It has worked great until now. Bought a new 12 cup work bowl but it still doesn't spin. It spins if I put a pen in and push the white pin that the bowl clips into. My husband thought about taking it apart and pulling the pin out further in the motor to see if it would fix the problem because it looks like it is stuck in a bit. Do you have any suggestions?? Also, I agree the motor being heavier = more power! A better performance!!!

I hope you read this even if the video is 5 years ago. I have the KFP1642OB Proline Series 16 cup. processor with the entire attachment case. When I do stuff in my kitchen it is not on a small scale. My husband invests in commercial grade, large capacity, heavy duty appliances for me and all the cooking I do. After about a year of use, the unit stopped coming on. We found that the work bowl lid was not sitting down in the bowl handle to make the connection that lets the unit know it is put together correctly. I tried to just purchase a lid and was told by Kitchenaid that all these parts are discontinued. I went round and round with Kitchenaid on why the parts were discontinued since the work bowl and lid fit some of the smaller capacity machines. I can't see spending $200-400 for another machine when all I need is the lid. Since this is a Proline Series, I can't find any answershe lid for the KFP1644 units would fit the KFP1642 units. I would even buy used if I knew for sure the lid would fit my unit. Seems a shame that Kitchenaid promoted this higher end processor then discontinued all the parts. It sits and takes up space where I could be using it - IF I ONLY HAD A NEW LID COVER! Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. So for right now everything is being done by hand and takes forever.

Hey Michele, I can be good at times. LOL! So, in a perfect world, you would take the plastic bowl(s) from your baby and put them on the older model that has guts. Then you have the best of both worlds. As Amy was mentioning, the plastic bowls on the older models were harder to get on and off (and like to crack in the dishwasher), but the newer motors kinda are weak. Unless you get the Proline, then all is well, right???

Not looking for s new one. For what I do in the kitchen it works really good. I have great knife skills hand prefer to use a knife. But I’m going to need a processor to do some stuff this winter. So I’m good!! Buttons are hard to push and it seems slower for sure. Oh well!!🤷🏻‍♀️

I totally agree with this whole video! I to have owned every single one of those in Onyx. Food processor number 3, your silver pearl...that is the worst design I've ever owned! You can't leave it unattended. Meaning you can't turn to stir something on the stove cuz that's Tucker will jump right off of the counter!not only does it not have the power of number to but it doesn't have the weight and it's very unsafe! The buttons are hard to press!it takes me longer to make peanut butter in it than it does number two and number one. Yesterday while slicing semi-soft cheese the slicing blade jammed up, it got so hot that it molded itself into the machine. just doesn't have the power! So I have the 16 cup coming right now. My 14-cup number 3what's a replacement they sent me for processor number 2. Instantly I complained about the weight of it mine was diecast your silver processor number three is not. So now that I've had issues with number 3 and it's defective they're sending me the 16 cup diecast which is what the representative said they should have sent me to begin with because of all the issues and because I spent more on mine that was die cast. Replacing number two with number three was not fair to me. Hopefully the 16 cup will serve its purpose for quite a long time. 🤞

Amy, I've had the 7 cup version of the second one from the left (the pie crust video one) for about 10 years and I love it. Still works like a charm. I don't know if you know, but there is now yet another generation of KA Food processors. They come in a 7 and 9 cup size and are round. I don't know if any other sizes are planned. The blades all store inside the container. I'm tempted, but even if I do, like you the other one isn't going anywhere. www.surlatable.com/product/PRO-3984069/KitchenAid+9+Cup+Food+Processor+Plus

AmyLearnsToCook Im back, I don't know what happened, my husband couldnt figure it out either and now for some reason you are working again. I dont know But thank goodness! I want to say I love this review, I love how the older stuff works better than the new ones. I think its important like you do, to keep the old ones around. I have one similar to yours second from the left, but its chrome, I have had it a number of years and it does have a small bowl insert that came with it. Its a 9 cup. Recently I thought to try the new kitchenaid qvc had, it seemed to cover all my complaints on food processors, the lid just hinges and no twisting of the bowl, all the attachments fit neatly in the bowl, and its sealed where my old one isn't. However, it was suppose to be a 7 cup, and I tried to make a pie crust in there which called for three cups of flour, it was to the top and that was before I added any other ingredients. Needless to say it didn't work, I guess a bigger one might work? but I would think that would have worked and it didnt. Then you had knobs that you push low high and pulse and just on,, reminds me of the cusinart push buttons.. But when I put it on continuous run, with the pulse button it screamed.. I don't think thats right.. the High and low were fine. so given everything, I was disappointed and sent it back. I was excited to get it, but feel it wasnt' worth it especially if something was wrong.. Thank you for trying to help me yesterday, I dont know what the fluke was but Im so glad to be back. I missed my coffee with you on whats up wednedays..

Do you cater? Do you ever donate your older equipment when you replace with present models? I'm sure the cost of your most updated equipment is much more in purchase price. Manufacturers are out to make them richer and customer enticed with fancy thought of product made bigger, but not as well made. Probably the older one last much better. Manufacturers are in the profession of making them money the cheapest way they can produce product. And fool the consumer.
