Thank you, thank you, thank you!! This is the second time in 20 months that I've had to replace this blankety-blank bulb (my own fault probably, due to my bad habit of leaving the door open because of steam). I sure wish there was a long-lasting LED version of this bulb. Sigh. Anyway...this video gave me the courage to do it once, and now it's my go-to reference for the second go-round, lol!🙏👍

I do the same thing with leaving the door open to let the steam evaporate (and the odors to dissipate). My understanding is that LED is not suitable for microwaves so it has to be incandescent or halogen. The next time I do this it should def take much less than 1 hour.

What about if you open the door and the light doesn't turn on, but turns on when it's running. The potato sensor won't work if the light doesn't come on because it won't recognize whether the door is opened or closed apparently. I let the microwave sit for a while with the door open and the light eventually turned on. After that, I closed the door and the potato sensor worked. But what would cause the light to not immediately turn on when the door is open?

I did this recently on my KitchenAid KEMS378SSS (bulb is OSRAM 64405 12V 5W). Mine had more obstructions to work around. That retention clip was a pain to remove and reinstall because of all the obstructions. Very poor design. Why??? This microwave was from the pervious homeowner, but I did purchase a KitchenAid refrigerator and that had a lot of issues so they actually took it back even after the warranty expired and gave me the choice of a new one at big discount. So based my experience with KitchenAid, I will avoid purchasing that brand or anything from its parent company Whirlpool.
