Kitten Ringworm Emergency! 🚨 Fast & Safe Home Treatment

This has been a year of many things, but for me here at Kitten School I'd say 2022 has been the Year of Ringworm! I have taken in multiple fosters infected with this pervasive fungal infection that causes hair loss and itchy skin lesions. Treating cats with ringworm is pretty low tech and there are lots of safe and easy ways to get rid of it at home without having to see a vet, but having the right products is crucial for a fast, complete recovery. The main ingredient for ringworm treatments include lime sulfur solution, a naturally occurring element that has been used for thousands of years to treat skin infections. Talk about old school! But when used properly, the stuff really works.
After seeing one of my recent videos of a foster with ringworm, the kind folks at Healthy Paw Life sent me a box of their ringworm treatment products - and it arrived just in time. One of my newest fosters, 3-month old Bandita, had arrived to Kitten School showing those tell-tale round hairless spots. A quick check under a black light revealed glowing ringworm lesions. UGH. Not again! I just went through this! I knew I had to act fast to treat Bandita and prevent further spreading of this sneaky fungus.
Using the Healthy Paw Life products - lime sulfur dip, shampoo, and spot treatment cream - I was able to clear Bandita up in just over two weeks. I LOVE the cream, because you can use it in between dips and shampoos to focus in on trouble spots. Its now been about a month since I started treating Bandita and she appears to be ringworm free (though I'm doing quick checks with the black light to be sure).
Ringworm can be a PAIN for pet owners, and especially foster parents who are caring for large numbers of cats and kittens. Acting fast when you first see signs of it, and being consistent, is the key to quick recovery. Also be sure to wash all pet bedding in hot water with a splash of bleach, and wash your hands after handling an infected animal. Prevention is the key!

I am 80 with cronic health problems about 4 -weeks ago 3-kittens we’re on my patio mother nowhere in site. I took them in to care for them after day two because they were starving I bought domesticated kitten milk and started feeding them right away I noticed they all have ringworm and found your channel on how to treat it. I admire how you handle the Ringworm, I've been in tears, depressed, stressed, swearing, and wanting to dissapeared from this world when my Vet confirmed one 5 the 7 fosters I have in the spare bedroom , ALL have RW. I spent almost $400 in chemicals and tools to clean and sanitize my whole place and another $200 in shoe & head disposable covers, and gowns to go in and out of the room, the 2 with more severe RW were boarded at the Vet, I wish I could board them all but I just ran out of money, (I don't have a 501c3 unfortunately so everything comes out of my pocket ) And here I am after 5 days I can't find the courage to touch them, I don't know how to handle them. They had just got the oral medication so far. 3 were not able to get tamed, they remained on the feral side, I'm even considering PTS because I really don't know what else to do. I'm going to watch your video few more times to see if I can get over the paranoia of the RW, that was my worst nightmare so far, I hope it doesn't get to my resident cats

I got the worst case of ringworms ever on my nose, chin neck, chest, hands, arms, legs, everywhere I did not realize these new kitties had ringworms. I had to go get oral medication and it’s been a week and I believe I’m over it but I have yet to treat my kitties. They are feral but they let me hold them and such so I’m fixing to find out how I’m gonna treat them. pray for me. 🙏

Hello dear I know it's been over a year since you left this comment and I do hope you were able to manage it okay. The main way humans get affected is if the fur with the spores comes in contact with minor or open abrasions. After taking lots of scratches from my fosters I've got a big one right under my knee. Thankfully there is a lot of medicine available that helps humans get rid of it way faster than kitties. Hope you are well

TYSM!!!! I fostered 4 kittens this spring and all 10 of my cats ended up getting ringworm!! What a NIGHTMARE!!!! I am in the "middle of the mess" right now, and CAN'T WAIT to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I feel u.. I’m at the point where there is no time for me to be exhausted .. May I ask what other measures to prevent spreading do u use? Do u change ur clothes after each contact with them? What do u use to disinfect ur house? And thnx .. hope that we all get to see a good final out come

Did you isolate your animals? I have eight animals. I’m trying to keep three older cats in one room, two dogs in another room, and three of the smaller cats in another room. I let them all in the living room at different times and clean incessantly after each one leaves. Only the two small kittens are on oral meds. The other pets are not on any medication and show no signs, but I’m worried. I was formerly a professional cleaner so know how to clean and disinfect. My washer and dryer have been going for two weeks strait. I can’t imagine what my electric bill will be this month.

This video is exactly what I needed. Took in a rescue who we were told had a mite infection on his ears until a couple of weeks later, our dogs came down with ringworm. It’s been hell in our house. We all contracted ringworm spots and have had to quarantine all of the animals. We couldn’t figure out where it came from UNTIL we connected the dots to the kitten. I had no idea! All animals are on oral therapy now but we have been scrubbing and cleaning daily and so many days I have been in tears. It is physically and mentally so exhausting. We just started the sulphur like baths but I had no idea about the cream. I’m going to order that right now! Your calm and confident demeanor really helped me. I can’t wait to be able to love on our animals again. We have all been so incredibly depressed. Kitten is only 5-6 months old. He’s been shedding in tufts suddenly on top of it. Good thoughts for us please. I’m so glad to have found you!

Great Video Caroline. Mine are doing okay. Gloria, is now a Big Girl at 9 months, moving from kitten behavior to the more sensible Adult Behavior, and she's climbed down from the highest perches to sleeping with me or my other three. It may be because she's emulating Franky Blue. Oh, and my Oldest, Big Fat Roary Big Bear, well, months ago I started the policy of putting out small amounts of Kibble and to not refill until Little Siamese Tommy comes around to ask. Well, Roary has dropped from 18 pounds to 14, and he's getting back his Jump. Take care Caroline! Take care Everybody.

Very timely as I’m dealing with ringworm for the first time with my 1 year old Bo Purrnham. Lime sulfur dips and chlorhexidine are making a big difference after just a week! One heads up about the lime sulfur dip - it smells REALLY bad. My whole house smelled like rotten eggs for several hours after the first dip. Next time I’m going to do it on the porch or in the garage. 🤣

We just ordered some of the products you use in this video. Our 6 week old kitten, 1 year old cat and 2 year old cat all have ringworm. I would like to know how you clean your home of the ringworm. It's so contagious and it's becoming emotionally overwhelming for every living creature in our home, 2 dogs and all 4 family members who are infected.

I'm currently fostering 5 11 wk old kittens that have ringworm. I'm doing medicated baths with shampoo the animal shelter gave me 2x a wk, and per a friend's recommendation, I dab their spots with Lotrimin AF for ringworm. Older spots are clearing up but I'm noticing new spots on a couple of them. I keep them in a room in an enclosure away from my two cats. I change their bedding every other day unless it looks dirty as well as their toys using bleach and borax. And since i have carpet in that room, I vacuum it every evening after letting them have an hour or two of playtime outside the enclosure so they can stretch and run a bit. I've heard of the dips but since I'm only fostering them, and on a limited budget, I can't afford to try different products. And they don't weigh enough for the medicine, but I've not read good things about it anyway. But if they all et up to 2 lbs, then the shelter vet will start them on it... unless I can get them cleared up first. I'd love to try the stuff you showed here but again, I just can't afford it, not even one of the products. But I have seen some results already. Wish me luck. I've had many cats in my life, but this is my first time with ringworm.

When another foster kitten showed up with ringworm there was no time to waste in treating it so it wouldn't spread! Lime sulfur products are the best line of defense against this pesky fungus and I'll show you exactly how I used it to clear up our little Bandita.

Hello I would like some advice for my cats I just got a new kitten because I thought my other cat was lonely and sad the kitten doesn’t Attack or threaten him but my other cat keeps Birding the kitten on the neck or try’s to before I stop him and the other cat I have is also deaf So can you tell me how I can make them friends Im trying my best feeding them together giveing them treats playing with them together and when they are eating together they are like father and son but after that my big cat try’s to kill my kitten again

hello I need some advice. I had 1st cat for 1 & half year. Lucy. great cat. I saved a stray pregnant kitten 2 months ago. Kitten and resident cat got along swimmingly first month . after kitten gave birth (all still born) and was fixed, and healed she's began being very aggressive towards resident cat. I am a single struggling mom, and this is making me want to give up. I love both cats and spent a hefty $4K on emergency spay surgery for kitten. not getting rid of either... but the kitten will NOT stop attacking my resident cat, bad cat fights. I have to keep them separated all day.. the SECOND the kittens door opens she RUNS and attacks resident cat instantly!!! been feeding them together snacks together, play together... but having ZERO progress... plz help 🙏🏼

Hello. Is a human antifungal cream safe for a kitten with a bad case? How about organic apple cider vinegar and coconut oil? Is the lime sulphur cream in pharmacies? I found 2 discarded kittens. One with ringworm and the newborn has balding patches around the mouth.

I've been watching your videos for about a week. My sweet 3-year-old Piper ended up getting a ringworm from a kitten I adopted. The rescue group thought the kitten was clear to be adopted because she didn't have a ringworm anymore. My Piper has had the ringworm on her back for about 3 weeks. The vet had to take her off the oral meds because she had a bad reaction to them. So now we are doing other remedies. I just found out today she still has the ringworm a little. So we are taking other measures, and I think I'm going to buy the product you mentioned in this video. I have been vacuuming and mopping every day. Changing my bedding twice a week to keep me from getting a ringworm. Is all the cleaning like this necessary?

Hello all. I am not a rescuer, but in the last 5 days someone has been dumping sick kittens . I found one 5 days ago and am bottle feeding her. Today i found another, only this one appears to have serious ringworm. I don't have anything to treat his skin (blk male), but i am frantic for my other rescue animals ( 3 dogs 5 cats with the sick one. I cannot afford a trip to the vet. Can you suggest what to do and how much of a precaution i take to avoid a spread? Thank you❤

Your videos have helped me save at least a dozen kittens and adult cats in my neighborhood from eye infections and colds!! Do you happen to know what can treat ear mites? I took in 2 kittens that weigh just over 2 pounds. Unfortunately, they have ear mites and ring worm :(

Brilliant work! I have few questions about this treatment 1. After i dip my car into this dip, i will let them dry. 2. Then I will apply that cream over the affected areas. # What about shampoo? When do I use this ? # After how many hours of the same day of dipping my cat? # what if they luck the dip solution? Please reply it can save my cat. My baby has become lathargic eversince my baby got this f#### ringworm. I also need a escalation/complaint cell number in India for traders of these pets without care and they made a business out of it but don't feel okay to treat this before selling. My little one had fungal infection when she came in and now she is doing good and elder cat got it snd he had become really dull I CRY EACH DAY FOR HIM.. Please u gotta help me

Hi there! I usually do the lime sulfur dip twice a week. After a couple of weeks, if ringworm lesions look better, you can go to once a week but still use a little dab of the cream or lime dip solution to put on the spots every other day. Ringworm can sometimes look like it's going away but it can come back, so be sure to stay on top of it until you see fur growing back over the spots. Hope this helps!

Ok, don't panic! Go to the pharmacy and ask for athletes foot cream (it's over the counter). Rub that on three times a day and change your towels and sheets regularly. It will go away in a couple of weeks. I have a ringworm spot on my leg now and am doing this, it's starting to fade. And be sure to treat your kitty with the products I show in the video, too! Some cats are very selfish. I have a cat in my house. When she gets hungry, she becomes very friendly and expresses tameness. But when she has her food, she disappears. And after the meal, if I try to touch her, she reacts badly. That is the moment I receive scratches and bites. And that's why I don't like cats. I would prefer a dog to a cat.

Yeah, the other day i read the label on one of those Flea Treatments that you apply between the shoulder blades, and they mentioned the dangers of Cross Grooming. I suppose we could dress our cats in little Smocks to cover them up. There is a channel called "Lily Ivo". She's a lady from Indonesian who had worked overseas in one of those Arab Countries, in Service, but when she retired and went back to Indonesia she became obsessed with helping Cats in a Country that is apparently very rough on cats. So her subscribers grow used to many of her cats being dressed in Baby Cloths, to cover their surgical stitches or open wounds. The Cats look really cute. Hmmmm. maybe we'd have to fight to get a Cat into a Pinafore, but Lily Ivo has a magic touch. I guess that Used Cloths Stores and places like Good Will would have Baby Cloths.

can you let the cat back out off quarantine after the lesions have healed and you finish 3 weeks of oral antifungals and lime sulfur dips? my cat just finished his 3 weeks and all his lesions have healed and i want to let him out of quarantine but the clinic says another 2 weeks to get a negative/positive result..

Hi there. To be 100% sure there is no contagion, yes, you should quarantine for another 2 weeks. What I do, if I have multiple kittens and only one or two show ringworm, is lime dip all the others to prevent them from getting it. And I wash all bedding in hot water and bleach everyday. I also examine all kittens from head to toe every day to make sure no one is getting lesions. I have been pretty successful doing this but you really have to stay on top of the cleaning and do the lime dips. If it's easier, you can wipe the non-infected kittens with the solution using a washcloth. Hope this helps! Ringworm is NO fun but you'll get through it!

Would it be ok to just do a wash cloth type bath in the shampoo they gave me instead of putting him in water?

No, the Video wasn't an Ad. It was a Product Review. You know, many of the Subscribers to this Channel have been with Caroline for years. Go back and watch some of the older videos. Caroline has plenty of Integrity in the Cat Volunteer Field, and your sniping at her is simply jarring. You seem more like a Dog Person.

Awww, thank you Leo. Really kind of you to respond and be my champion! I am starting to do some review videos here and there, but I ONLY make videos of products that I think are worthwhile. I have had several companies reach out asking me to review certain items I just don't think are great products, or wouldn't use at all, and I politely declined. And when I make a video for a product, I ask in return that they send me multiples so that I can share them with my fellow foster parents. We all spend a lot of our now money caring for our fosters, so getting things for free really helps. I am in the process of creating my own non-profit so I can start raining money and applying for grants to help get more of the cats in my region the help they need- basic vet care, spay & neuter, a cat food pantry for people in need.

@@KittenSchool Hi Caroline. Oh! My Daughter, when she was in AmeriCorps (Family Tradition.... I was in the Peace Corps) she told me that the secret to Fund Raising is to cry until people hand over what you think is their Quota. Of course my daughter was Little and Cute when she was pulling that Stunt off. But you're Tall and Cute! Good Luck Caroline. It was fun Riding to your Rescue!

I have 11 cats and 9 kittens with ringworm and I ran out of money trying out different fungul solutions but it's nowhere as good as Lsulfur solution.
