I’m an advanced crocheter but this week I decided to start learning how to knit as well. You are one of the RU-vidrs that influenced that decision. So I just want to say thank you for doing what you do and being so positive all the time. 😊🫶🏼

The popular pattern thing… I guess it’s because making your clothes means you can make something no one else has. But for me the reality is even if I do knit a super popular pattern no one in my close acquaintance will have it. So I think you should always just make what brings you joy! Whether it’s popular or not ❤

I don’t avoid popular patterns nor do I seek them out. I just knit what I like.

I feel like I shouldn’t like patterns that are super trendy and popular (maybe that’s my middle school self that’s trying to be cool and edgy), buuuuut I do! Ultimately, if I’m going to wear it and love it, and if the pattern is well written, I’m all for the popular patterns!

Haha yeah, I’m trying to avoid super popular patterns and I’m much older, did not grow up with RU-vid, I was already an adult! I’m happy to discover new patterns from designers that I haven’t tried out. I try to see if there are no errors in the pattern at least. Good thing about super popular patterns are that they are proof they are clearly written and easy to understand or they would have commented about it.

Sometimes they are so popular for a reason! I always feel that even if I am making a popular pattern, it is still unique and unique to me because if my creative freedom with yarn choices.

I have never seen anyone wearing something handknitted in the town where I have been living since 2020, not even once. People are wearing awful stuff here. So I imvite everyone who wants to feel unique in their Sunday sweater to move here. It would spruce the place up!

None of my real world friends knit, I have no community here. How cool would it be to actually meet someone in the street with an Ingrid sweater or a Ranunculus! We don't know each other, but we are part of an amazing online community of knitters. I think I might even go up and talk to them about it 😊

Hi Bethany! So happy to see you back with your knit and chat videos 🥰 I started knitting this year in February and you were the first knitting podcast I ever watched! (And yes, I did binge watch all of them lol) You really inspired me and kept me motivated to keep going when I felt like giving up (Your Mock Neck Sweater and Seamless Mock Neck Sweater were the first sweaters I ever knit 😉) Thank you so much for your videos and inspiration! It made me even start my own knitting podcast 🎉

Marie Wallins designs are always only 2 colours a row so it’s easier then it looks! she uses lots of colours in total to make very complex looking garments! 😊

I'm knitting my first colour work garment that's Marie Wallin and can attest that it looks more complex than it actually is! Bought a kit so I didn't have to stress about choosing colours.

We all look at our knitting differently. Some want to be super practical and maybe the projects are more simply made but often have a more timeless look, others maybe branch out for creativity and skill even if the garment isn’t as worn. As a new knitter (2 years) I told myself I wanted to learn everything…so I just take my time and thoughtfully look for patterns with certain techniques that I do like. It’s a little exhausting because the pattern selection becomes overwhelming but it’s also exciting.

I started knitting when I was 7...I am now 66 so have lots of experience but I still learn new things. I think a lot of that is due to the Internet. Just do what suits you although everyone knitting a popular pattern is fine xx

I did laugh at your remark about the Renuculas 😂😂 because they were my thoughts exactly. Every one seems to be knitting it, so l won’t (stamps foot). I still haven’t-yet but I’m beginning to warm to the idea. It seems to look good on everyone. Can’t wait to hear your news, methinks your moving 🤔 but where to 🤔❤

I can definitely relate when it comes to knitting patterns from the same designer! Jessie Mae Patterns are my personal faves cause I find them to easy to understand but I also love looking for smaller designers cause I feel like their patterns need love too!

Regarding question no. 1 - that’s so interesting! I was the OPPOSITE! I thought I would have NEVER been able to knit a sweater or that, best case scenario, I would have been able MAYBE after 10 or so years. Well, I knitted my first panel sweater after 3 months and my first raglan shortly before the year mark. I do still see people commenting on social media “I can only make scarves!” or “socks look sooo complicated!” If you’re happy with just those, that’s fantastic! Buuut if you would like to make more challenging knits… GO FOR IT! Knitting is really not that complicated (and if it was to get complicated, there’d always be a YT tutorial for it) 😜 For Bethany: Think about it, is there anything you can’t make? Probably not. Scarves, hats, sweaters, cardigans, mittens, socks, blankets, you can make EVERYTHING you want. Also, do you remember looking at the difficulty ratings of patterns and sadly thinking “nope.” I’m assuming that’s also not a thing anymore (or maybe very, very rarely). Isn’t that beautiful?
@WellLovedKnits

Hello Bethany and thanks gor another awesome video podcast. I am working on my own Ranunculus pattern. Its similar to the original. I am knitting it with wool i dyed myself and, Its unspun😅 it is turning out great. The unspun is creating a soft halo. The color i dyed it is a rusty copper.❤

I don't think you're "supposed to" have any particular opinion on popular knitting patterns, just whatever you think! For myself, I feel pretty "meh" about a lot of the most popular designers and patterns in the community right now. It gets frustrating though when it seems like that's all anyone can talk about, and patterns/designers I really love don't get the attention I think is due to them. Lovely video as always:)

i live in southern California, it can be very frustrating seeing wonderful knits knowing i will never have a need for them! lightweight cardigans and beanies. a few scarves and socks work perfectly here. That whole craze of half and half wrap...and others that followed, jumbo knits, cute but no need here. Ocean breezes are the coldest I receive, always baby knits...babies come along to pass them on to new Moms

When I started knitting I was all about the shawl. I knit sooooo many and acquired a lot of single skeins of fingering yarn. I live in coastal North Carolina and we have much more warm weather than cold weather. So this year I shifted my focus to plant fibers and warm weather knitware. I love mohair but it doesn’t agree with my climate.

Bethany...love hearing your point of view. You convey the community aspect of knitters/vlogs. That is the attraction...for me, at least. There aren't hard, fast rules. I think that you would agree the charm would be lost if there were.😊 Please....reply and share the brand of bamboo needles you mentioned. I love bamboo needles and am not familiar with 'C' (?) Needles. Thanks!
