I was really there man. I remember thinking he wasn't gonna show up because it started drizzling, but sure enough he pulled up! It was one of the most memorable times of my childhood. I waited 3 hours on the line just to get in and watch this man work. He just came off a 3 peat championship. That day hannibal gave him the nickname "The Lord of the Rings". Beautiful moment man. 💜💛 KB forever!
Y'all forgetting the fact that he is out there doing street ball moves in a middle of a game. Respecting the style of street ball as well as Rucker park.
Dam I remember this day like it was yesterday I heard Kobe was coming but I didn’t believe it until he walked in the park . I swear this is day I realized the difference between street ball and the nba Kobe made it look like he was playing against children. What I lot ppl don’t know about this day is Kobe was double and sometimes triple teamed he actually had a ton of assists Dam what a day. Can’t believe your gone Kobe
Only NBA champ to come to the Rucker. That's real right there. Other players might think they to good after they got a ring to come to the Rucker. Kobe just loves to ball, that simple.
Kobe went to the trenches fresh off winnin his 3rd ring & balled with his community! like OG said “He’s the ONLY World Champion to EVER play out here, B! Period!” stamp that! 🙏🏾🔥💯 REST IN PEACE TO THE REAL GOAT
@zack B Doc, n Cap played at Ruc, before they hit the league tho. It’s why dude said “ONLY” player to play out here AFTER winning a chip. Most NBA heads, that played at Ruc, never went back after they got to the league.
Haven Melton before kobe prime he wasnt the hot scorer until 4 5 years later plus at that time kobe had shaq people didnt think he could win a ring with out him
Kobe is better then lebron obviously beside if it was lebron at rucker park playing in the rain he would ask someone to have a umbrella on him while hes running or make a excuse to have cramps because the water hurts
Same here... just had to come back to this vid to remember how much luv for the hood Kobe had... And how much the Hood loved him Back! RIP Black Mamba!
@@TempleofBeauty866 this hits different real talk... Ive debated hoops for awhile and now it just wont be the same now that Kobe is no longer with Us.. Prayers to his family.. Prayers for my main man Hannibal who absolutely gave Mamba his flowers to smell them salute for all the nicknames... Im just hurt😢😢😢😢😢
Big respect. I liked Kobe and am also saddened by his and Gigi's death but can't agree with the GOAT comment. Better than LeBron but a distance from being MJ.
@@teddygonzalez189 and ervin johnson and bird. the players of the 80's and 90's were basketball, no one will ever match to toughness and heart of that era . jmo
@@alansabin7487 I watched Magic and Birds NCAA championship game. Magic alley oop Kessler so many times. But yeah, the best era was 1978 to 1998. Now, pure garbage.
Kobes from East Coast & always loved playing at Madison Square Garden. Much love to NY great b-ball culture had NY wearing Lakers jerseys such a legend.
Everyone's like "Kobe just won his 3rd title" no mention of GOAT status, just appreciation for a guy who loves to play on the court in the basketball mecca of the league. Back when you had to show your love for the game and didn't have a social platform to do all the work. He dribbled the ball not the keyboard.
And was brave. Allt of nba players think they are too good for the Rucker or afraid they will be embarrassed at their level. Kobe played their game with them and better. No one has done thst at that level think about that.
@@winstoncannady4224 but he always gone be black tho! We caint hide our skin lol but I feel what you saying tho. Tapping in to his blackness so to speak
I like how everybody’s talking about when Kobe came to town. However I remember seeing the Dr J documentary “When greatness meets class” And it showed when Julius Erving first played at Rucker Park and it was never the same.
I have watched this several times throughout the years, way before he passes. When I first saw this yrs ago I was thinmon the same. U remember the black and white photo with ppl on the roof and out the windows of they projects watching Dr. J. Thst is an epic pic. Now watching this again, I think its cause Dr J was a legend especially in NY. But he was with the aba I think when he came out. Kobe was a current 3 time champ that just won. You will never see LeBron or even Jordan and I am a Jordan fan, come off a championship let alone his 3rd and go to the Rucker. That is like seeing Brady or Rogers win the SB and they go to the highschool in your town to play flag football with the guys that just happen to be there on a sunday. Mind you, Dr J was from NY yea it was long island. But he spent alot of time in the city. By this age Kobe was easily one of the hollywood faces for LA next to 2pac, snoop, cube, madonna, michael jackson and maybe Schwarzenegger. So it was not like this was a park in his home town of even philly or current home in LA. This is like Jay z or Nas seeing guys freestyling on the train and they jump in, prob not gonna happen. And I respect the hell out of both of them especially Nas. Now Eminem or DMX(rip) ???? yea I can them doin it. Guys that on top of they craft best of the best to still do it for the luv wtih the ppl that created their stardom. But, thats just what I think. So who knows.
@@preachdatruth69 Peter>Phil...Peter has more fans around the world & more people care for his work than Phil. Nothing against Phil Jackson one of the greatest coaches ever.
Oh wow that was sooooooo special. I don’t watch nba like I did back in the era with Magic, MJ and Bird. But Kobe was a special kind of player. No player today can touch him. And that includes Lefraud James.
You got great NBA players who can't play at a street ball level You got legendary street ballers who can't play at the NBA level Then you got some rare players who can play at a high level in both worlds. Kobe was one of them.
People talk about his work ethic and skills, but forget how athletic he actually was. He might not have had MJ’s vertical or Lebron’s strength but make no mistake about it…he was still really quick, and his coordination is other worldly. Exceptional athlete
I remember watching Kobe in his first couple of seasons, they didn't play him much but I was like man that kid is gonna be good. I still recall yelling at the TV telling Del to play that kid more and start him! RIP Kobe, you were a hero to alot of people and our motivation.
