Kobe was easily a top 3 scorer in NBA history, playing in the toughest defensive era in basketball history, but for some reason people forget, he only had 2 scoring titles, yet somehow, he was percieved as a selfish player by the media accolites who loved to shift the goalposts whenever it suited them. Kobe always answered every single criticism, and failure that came his way. Very few players can prove doubters wrong 5 times in the span of 10 seasons. People forget, there was a time when Shaq and Kobe were looked at as a young talented duo that would never win a championship together, let alone make it to the WCF's. Those Lakers teams got swept, or gentlemen swept for 4 seasons before Phil Jackson came along and helped Kobe and Shaq figure it out. The Lakers didn't just come out of nowhere during the 2000 season. Those teams had to learn how to win with each other, and nobody thought that they would be the last team to 3-peat. After they 3-peated together with the Lakers, then the media felt the need to shift the goalposts for Kobe when that rosters core was broken up, and Kobe was left with a shell of a team for 3 years straight willing them into the playoffs. Then it became about how he was carried by Shaq, and would never win without Shaq. Kobe proved those people wrong again twice in a row during the 2009, and 2010 seasons. The Kobe haters relished seeing Kobe lose in 2008 against that excellent Celtics team, but the Mamba Denied that great Celtics team the opportunity to become a Dynasty, or to at least have more than one title to show for their efforts. Duncan never repeated as champion with his Spurs team mostly because of Kobe Bryant, and a few other players, but mainly Kobe. Shaq was also part of that, but Kobe's dominance over Duncan kept going long after Shaq was gone from the Lakers, and by the time Lebron's Heat defeated the Spurs, Duncan wasn't even close to the best player on his team anymore. Duncan only dethroned Kobe one time in 2003, yet Duncan is sometimes talked about as the greater player which is a joke. Kobe actually defended his championships 3 times during his career. Defending the title is more difficult that winning a title as a team. Defending your title is more important than Finals MVP's, regular season MVP's, scoring titles, all-defensive selections, ect. 2 Finals MVP's to go along with 3 title defenses is better than 3 Finals MVP's, and no title defenses. All Kobe ever did was defend the title's he won, at least once or twice, and he did it in a 10 year span. Only maybe 3 or 4 players can say that, and those players are all in the top 5 all-time, including Kobe, and that doesn't include Lebron, KD, Wade, Dirk, Duncan, Wilt. Even Larry Bird never managed to defend his title although he came very very close several times. The East was stacked in the 80's, but the West was historically stacked in the 2,000's. Magic only defended his title once which was very significant at the time because it hadn't been done in over a decade, and the 80's were a great era of competition, and parody. Kobe's competition was just as tough, if not tougher in the 2,000's. The Lakers with Kobe beat the most 50+ win teams during his career in the post-season, and it was a much tougher Western Conference than anything Magic had to deal with, and it was as tough as the East that MJ had to deal with, and that's no insult to any of those guys. The goal is to win at all costs, but I am tired of seeing the complete lack of respect for the level of greatness Kobe attained. Kobe also succeeded in everything at a younger age than anyone else in NBA history.

All I remember about Kobe and Ray is when Kobe blocked him like Allen was a 4th grader. And when Kobe and him go at it in game 7 2010.
