When you use a combi on the Korg Kronos and have found a great riff to use with that combi you often want to quickly record that riff to jam along with it or use it with your band.
It's very easy to create a X bar pattern based on your combi when using the sequencer. This tutorial shows you how to do this.

Is QR still alive? He was the best! I'm just starting to understand, after nearly 3 years, how the kronos works, it's a monster synth and packed with to much power, may take another 3 years to master. I hope Qui continues, he is such a great teacher and also a hell of a keyboardist, he should also teach how to improvise, this little jazzy piece he did is gorgeous!

I agree with some who made comment here! It figures, a simple guy like me, with a lot of idea in my head for composing songs that I want to put out there. I have a severe learning handicap/deficiency/ which hinders my comprehension, memory, focusing on things that I know I can do, if the tools were right for me. But I apparently picked the complicated tool to do it. I thought this would be easier and cut dry compared to my old Ensoniq EPS, if any of you used one of those back in the late '80's. Can't win. I thought I had done my comparisons and homework to decide which to get. Out of the other 2 I looked at before landing this, I looked at the Yamaha Motiff or whatever that one was, and the Roland Fantom. I love the sounds this has and it has a lot of potential for me, but as I said, complicated. I'll learn a few things on here, leave what I was doing to do something else on it. Then after a while, come back to what I was doing before and forget how got to that point and the settings I had for a program or combi.

Thanks. The Kronos sequencer is the hardest I've used. The sound quality makes up for it though. They should redo it from scratch and make it like the Maschine or better yet the Reason 7 sequencer. That would make this board a BEAST!

i would be glad if you answer this one Qui Robinez You have shown us how to copy a combi and use it for further jamming sessions.Now..can you please tell us a way to make backing tracks using the same combi/program data for live performances (one person band kinds).More specifically,how do we get fills endings and separate sections for a single song,if you help me..i ll be saved from spending more on a arranger workstation..i am struggling for backing tracks since i switched to kronos.

Thanks! I'm now wondering if it's possible to loop all tracks at once quickly.
@ZeekDuff
@ZeekDuff 7 лет назад
+ musical sam Sure, just go to the MIDI Track Loop button & select the tracks & distances you want. However, I don't see a way to do all that in one action, each track must be set individually. The way it's set up doesn't take an excessive amount of time, just be careful to set all the loop ends the same if that's how you want them. It's easy to miss by one bar off+/- if you're in too much of a hurry... I don't see an easy way to loop an audio track at all, but I also haven't tried doing that. In Logic, it's an easy copy & paste.

ok this all works but everytime I hit record button sequencer doesnt record current sound already modified with controlers but plain combi before editing..how can I make it sound exactly the same before and after recording?

you are getting midi flanging on the drums like when a double hit is triggering, It happened the first time you checked the patterns... then it went away the next time you added the lead!

I'm using this to lay down chord changes from the Real Book so I can practice my jazz chops, but even when I loop bars 1-32 it will only loop ONCE. Is there something I am missing to make it loop indefinitely? Every 2 times through the changes I have to hit "play" again! Why wouldn't a loop just continue looping?

This isn't working for me. It's hard to tell which tracks are being used by the combi. Looks like 1 - 8. So I choose 9 for my new sound (track) to add. After I do that the mute/play & solo buttons don't work. Also the midi track selection doesn't work. I change to any midi track and all I hear is still the combi. Not the new program selected on track 9. Its says what new program is but that's all. can't her it only the combi. Thanks for any help.

SPOKENTUBE, you need to understand the basic structure of the sequencer and how combinations are set up. In Combination, you set it up to play several tracks to the same MIDI channel, to get the impact of playing several programs at once (producing some really thick sounds!). In sequencer mode, if you notice, all the templates assign each track to separate MIDI channels, track 1 = MIDI 1, track 2 = MIDI 2, etc. This is essential, or you will have problems with muting/soloing/playing the combination you choose on the sequencer. The rule is this: Make sure every track has it's own MIDI channel. Don't have, for example, track 1 on MIDI 1, then track 3 on MIDI 1 as well. Wrong! That will confuse and sequencer and you. Use a template of your choice, then change the sounds (but not the MIDI channels!) to your liking, and you can then the mute/play/solo buttons will all work perfectly. Use "multiple record" to record 2 or more tracks at the same time, rather than setting them on same MIDI channel. Don't worry, this is an incredible sequencer, you paid a lot for it, and you got a lot, it's a monster and works fantastic! I'll try to do tutorials soon to explain the entire sequencer :)

I did see that you looped all the first eight tracks, was this necesarry , sometimes i see that just three tracks are used
@ZeekDuff
@ZeekDuff 7 лет назад
You only need to loop the tracks you want with sound on them. But, unless you record something else on the unused tracks, you might get some weirdness on the track later on, depending on how long you played & what those tracks are intended to do, for example if you change a Karma scene, they might become active then... To prevent unwanted noises, I'd mute those tracks until you want to use them for recording something else. Or, you might leave them playing back just to see what happens later if you DO change Karma scenes. Could be interesting... 😉

I am facing a technical problem. After I copied the combination to sequencer and recorded what I played on the keyboard, how to quantise the notes I have played? I tried to export midi to logic pro x and quantise the notes then import them to kronos using the same combination but I can't use the previous combination. Thank you.
@musicalsam1
@musicalsam1 7 лет назад
Cosmos Szeto Go to Sequencer page four ("Track Edit"), then touch the top-right arrow. Quantise is an available option.

In fact, I tried again with a simple 4 bar drum part and 8 bar bass track, and I found the same problem; after 64 bars the whole thing just stops. WTF? I can't play along with a loop for more than 64 bars?
@quirobinez
@quirobinez 8 лет назад
+Rob Bob the 64 bars is the default song length on a kronos. The loop feature will run as long as the song length is set. To change this, go to the track edit page in the sequencer, then right top menu on the touch screen and select the menu option: song length, change that to the length of your song or to 999 if you want it to run for a long time.

press the midi filter tab at the bottom of the screen and disable the joystick for the channels you don't want the pitch bend on.

Hi, is it possible to save this sequence? like so i can just reopen it whenever I want?
@quirobinez
@quirobinez 5 лет назад
yes, it's a song recorded in the sequencer where you used the help of KARMA to play the parts, but once you record it you can save the song and load it whenever you want.

@jelledevlieger6395 5 лет назад
@@quirobinez Thank you for answering! This might seem like a stupid question but, there isn't a function in the menu that says "save song" or anything like that. Does this work the same way as saving a combi or a program? ^^

i recorded 3 deferent intruments and my voice too in sequencer mode.....can i save that to my usb to listen it to my computer????? and if i can how....thanks
@quirobinez
@quirobinez 10 лет назад
you can do this by resampling the sequencer song to disk and copy the wav file to usb. Check the sampling section in the parameter guide for a detailed explanation about how to do it. It would take to many pages to explain it over here. But in that sampling chapter everything is explained.
@ZeekDuff

Wouldn't it be simplest to just export the sequence as an audio file saved to a USB stick? Maybe the OS didn't do that 3 years ago? It does now...
@ZeekDuff
@ZeekDuff 7 лет назад
Okay, you skipped something there, after you recorded the groove from the Combi, I didn't see what you selected to be able to play over it. Without doing "something" at least my Kronos still plays the Combi sounds, and I have to go through several steps to get the keyboard to play a "new" sound on a new track. Is there a quick way to do that?
@quirobinez
@quirobinez 7 лет назад
Zeek Duff you have to press the karma button so thats its off, then you can select any track you want in the aequencer
@ZeekDuff
@ZeekDuff 7 лет назад
Thanks for the reply, actually I can select any track even with Karma still on, but the upper tracks especially are most frequently turned off. You have to go to Track Parameters & check the "Status" make sure the desired track is set to INT, then also make sure the MIDI channel lines up with the track & keyboard or you get silence. Anyway, I always get there, and this is mostly when editing preset Combis. When creating from scratch, it's part of the setup or when using a sequencer template, also not a problem UNLESS the template has some track statuses set to OFF. I was hoping there was a quicker way to smack everything into place, but logically, going through the steps is the only physical possibility. "Y'kin no change the laws of physics, Cap'n..." 🤓 Thanks man, videos & forums sure save a lot of time from when I was learning MIDI from scratch in the mid-'80s. I hope people realize how much the Internet has improved our humble tasks. 😎
