Kryptek can be a very difficult Cerakote pattern, however, it's one that I really enjoy. In this video I go through a project that I did. I actually did my own personal gun for a change. When I decided to put Kryptek on this pistol, I wasn't sure what colors I was going to do. I'm happy with what the end result was, though.

Thanks for stopping by at the show today! We do all the Houston area shows. I took in another Kryptek project today and I’ll be filming it with some newer camera angles. It should be out mid-March. Gonna get that battleworn video I mentioned out this week also!

awesome video showing the kryptek camp process, im not using cerakote but its great to see how someone else does it , and yes those stencils are a nightmare to do if your not using transfer tape and a cricut machine. well done

Well done on the pistol. As for pattern recommendations: Under Armour Forest, Relv Copperhead, Kuiu Valo, A-Tacs U con, all of which look like they might be stencil hell.

When doing your final cure you stated that you do them at different temperatures as per cerakote guidance. However, how does this work if you don’t have two ovens (or do you?) The final cure at either temp is 2 hours, you have two different temps you need to run, and cerakote states you must cure within 2 hours of spraying.

What I usually do is tack everything for 15-20 minutes at 180 - that serves 2 purposes. It locks in the color and sheen and makes stuff not prone to surface particles. I pull the metals and hang them, finish curing the polymers. Then I crank the oven and finish the metals at 250/300 as appropriate. I want a 2nd oven but I can’t afford it!

question; if you tack out your base layer then flash cure, is it still okay to do the wet on wet with the follow on colors before applying stencils? whats the advantage other than saving on cure time not flash curing your base layer first? Thanks!!!!!

You could but your colors won’t blend as well. Wet on wet allows the edges of the spray to blend and make killer transitions. If you didn’t do wet on wet and didn’t stencil, you’d potentially have a dry spray effect on the base. It also gives that base cure time, giving you less working adhesion time overall.

The flash cure before applying the stecils is for all parts including plastics and metals parts all at the same time for 15 to 20min between 150 to 180? Thanks in advance.

Yes. If you go above 180 you can over cure the base and subsequent colors won’t adhere. It also sets your color tones between polymers and metals, otherwise you could have a slightly different sheen between the metals and the polymers.

I tack with stencils. Usually I do 20 minutes then remove stencils and do full cure. The stencil vinyl is only rated for 180 degrees. Thanks for watching!

do you use a vinyl cutter or are you ordering the stencils online? If cutting them yourself, where do you get the vector files?

I use a cutter. As a certified applicator I was given a file pack and then I’m able to make additional files for other designs I want.

Do you spray the underside of the slides as well?

Proper application is to spray the entire item you’re coating for protection and proper adhesion. For slides with patterns the entire slide only gets the base coat - so whatever the first color is. The additional colors are purely decorative so they’re only on the visible surface.
