Kup Retrospective - The Autobot with MANY Old Stories! 

Kup: back in my day we didn’t have any of that new fangled “Social Medias” to archive information about cybertronian’s, we had good old fashioned cyber squid Ink and robo paper

Kup is like the grumpy uncle that no matter how much tabaco and whiskey consumes he still holds up.

There's something about an old soldier still active on the fight that compelles us. After all being a soldier is where men die young, so an old man in such a job should always be feared

Kup's old stories are fantastic. I'd love a series where it's a retired Kup telling different stories to Academy cadets and each episode is a different story.

I will always have a soft spot for the trio of Kup, Hot Rod and Blur.

I like the scene in the movie where Kup and Hot Rod are racing toward Autobot City to get in before the bridge closes and Kup says "those insecticons are in our way." Hot Rod immediately changes it around to "no, they're our way in!" Interesting how the elder experienced Kup saw a barrier, where the wild, inexperienced Hot Rod saw the situation in a different way, a way to use to enemy blocking them to achieve their desired goal. Rather than explain his idea to Kup, he merely speeds ahead to show him! Kup learned something new that day!!!

His Generations figure is excellent. IDW did him dirty. Strange how it took Cyberverse to get him to Say I'm too Old for this. Kup is probably too old for a lot of things. I sure could spend all day listening to his stories. Maybe I could transcribe them and make bank while I'm at it!😎

Kup is an excellent character! When I was younger I hated how Hot Rod ridiculed Kup. Now I understand the interactions from certain generations. Great retrospective! Thanks!

When I start telling a story, I often find myself saying "Did I ever tell you about the time...?" I can't help but think of Kup every time it happens. Must mean I'm getting old...and experience :)

At first Scourge was supposed to be Kup's Decepticon counterpart as an old soldier, it would be great if they used that idea in future projects, he would be an excellent rival for Kup.

That was a great retrospective, well researched. One thing we never got to see that would have been cool, is a scene, or even an episode, where Ironhide and Kup trade war stories. But anyway, I feel that as I grow older I find Kup more interesting. I guess his wisdom never hit home with my younger self. Great work Rodimus, I really enjoyed it.

As a kid I never liked Kup. Probably he was old and cranky. However the older I got I started to like him more and my reasons for not liking him back then are now one of the reasons I like him. He was also bad ass in fighting too. It prompted me to pick up his Generations toy when it was on sale and still kept it til this day.

Every Arthur needs their Merlin. And so Rod had Kup. I wrote a fanfic years after the show. Kup was even older. Recoil died of old age. Visiting his old partner's grave, Kup finally goes offline himself. All those stories he had yet to tell die with him.

Kup’s possibly one of the Autobots that I’ve just known all my life and still liked him, I believe my first ever introduction to him was on Absurdly Awesome’s Transformers: The next generation One series?

I'm 46 and got the 86 Studio Series Kup for myself this Christmas. As I've gotten older my friends say I've become Kup. I stopped watching after the 86 movie so I was not aware of Kup's history. This retrospective is excellent. The parallels in my life to Kup are hilarious. I had military training when I was a teenager. I was promoted to Sergeant. Then went into Security in my 20's. Promoted to Supervisor very quickly due to my previous experience. I spent the next 20 years in almost every aspect of Security. I'm currently training to be a Combatives Instructor to train Security how to protect themselves and others. I've had many work injuries over the years, one serious enough to hospitalise me and needing ongoing physiotherapy to keep going. Yes, I have many stories too and being a fan of Lethal Weapon I quote Murtaugh alot. My friends were right. I became Kup lol. Till all are one.

Like Stan Lee I would gladly take a seat and listen to Kup tell stories all day.

My introduction to Kup was the 1986 Transformers Movie and Kup became one my favorite characters in all of Transformers.

i used to work with 2 men like kup when i worked nights at my local walmart, one of them even knew who kup was, and said it was his favourite character in the movie when he took his son to see it when it came out

Whoever wrote the scenes with Kup and the Dinobots in the Movie was a comedic genius, hands down some of my favorite moments in the film. When the rest of the SS86 Dinobots come out, I want to recreate those scenes using my LEGO pieces to build the interior of the ship. Also, are we going to get that bot Hot Rod was sparing with?

Kup always made me think of him as an old beat cop. Always by the book, trying to keep a rebellious youth like Hot Rod out of trouble and straighten him out. To give him words of wisdom and encouragement when things got really tough.

I wish Kup can come in the Transformers live action movies including a live-action remake based on The Transformers The Movie 1986 movie.

I'm probably one of the few G1 Transfans who didn't "get" Kup's name until I got Marvel Comics' TRANSFORMERS UNIVERSE mini where they wrote that his name was short for picKUP truck. As a wordsmith myself, I felt silly for not getting that immediately! 😛 Speaking of character bios, I believe Kup's greatest moment ever is in the Dreamwave MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE series where, when listing Hot Rod's weaknesses, he literally runs out of room on the page!! 🤣

Kup was always a reassuring character, you felt the Autobots chances of victory were enhanced when he was around.

Kup's stories are worth listening to. I've been a great fan of him for years. He has more experience then almost any other Autobot.

don't see much him in shows but likable and surprising memorable even after years and continuities (though I've always been interested in old tales, legends and myths, so bit biased) glade to see him again in Cyberverse 2:11 one of my fav scenes, the young dinos in a circle listening to the old bot tell stories listening to real life veterans talk about their time in service is also interesting, much of what I've heard were the better moments, bit morbid but they're fond of the inner jokes/gags and other moments shared with their comrades

Great retrospective! Kup was definitely the heart and soul of the season 3 autobot crew. Always had a story for every situation.

KUP will always remind me of my POPS and his 1990 Toyota pickup truck,he freaking loved that little truck and it's even the same color,I lost him 2 years ago,and I ain't gonna lie but I teared up a lil,seeing this episode,MISS U POPS,AND AUTOBOTS ROLL OUT!

Something tells me Kup and Ironhide would be pretty good Energon drinking buddies. That is if they don't annoy the Cybertronian Hell out of each other with their own respective war stories or/and try to upstage each other in a "scar competition".

Kup and Hot Rod were the prefect two to take over from the originals in the movie after they fell. If only they were introduced in a few episodes before to make the transition a bit smoother. I love Kup telling his wars stories, so when he doesn't have a story to match up to unicron, it hits harder of the terror they are about to face.

Kup is great, He's kind of like your half drunk grandpa, grumpy, but still has his wits about him. I've lost count of the anount of times I've used the line, "turbo revving young punk!" 😂 And of course, once I memorized the "universal greeting" well, let's just say, it's a great way to find out if a stranger is a TF fan.

One of my favorite lines from the movie is Kup's reaction to Unicron. It was the perfect endcap to his story schtick and the Stander's delivery was great.

Okay, so how does a race that can live for millions of years age? How do kids like Wheelie become adults, are they upgraded or something like that? And how long do they have to live to become senior citizens like Kup? Stuff like that always confused me.

Awesome video! It's great to see Kup be featured as a valuable Autobot so often through the years. IMO, his best episode is The Burden Hardest To Bear. The empathy and understanding he shows Rodimus is fantastic.

I would have liked to see a Transformers episode featuring a young Kup, that takes place on Cybertron during the 4 million years that Optimus and his crew were embedded in the Earth.

Kup got that ancient body/vehicle style of the ancients. He would have been an awesome Autobot leader. He would have looked awesome with a new body from the Matrix of leadership.

I love kup no matter the story he was in. Hes a good mentor to nee autobots and always a bad ass bot. I felt bad for him in IDW the most. No matter what happened to him they kept bringing him back to the reality he should of left ages ago. Honestly I love the stories though just super sad. Trapped on a radioactive crystal planet, try bringing him back and having his spark compromised and get suck. Bring him back fully and hes having withdraws of the radiation? Give him snall dose of that radioactive crystal drug(his now cigar). He dies in optimus arms by getting shot? Some weird woman revives him and allows a zombie invasion. He going scared in that invasion? Sacrifices him to save everyone else. Kup definitely gets the worst of almost anyone in the series always just being brought back instead of letting him rest.

Kup accidentally ended up as one of my favourite Transformers. Back in 1986, of course I was supposed to like Hot Rod, because he was the cool dude! But Kup's toy was on sale, so that's what my parents bought me. And then I kinda' got attached to the old guy... Just the other day I found a loose Generations figure and couldn't pass it up!

See, I always figured the "universal greeting" was something Kup made up to boost Hot Rod's confidence, like he was faking it because he was out of options, but later when Hot Rod used it on the Junkions, it only worked because of their tendency to speak in TV and gibberish.

I wonder if G1 Kup was referencing the fact that Optimus Prime had to live up to the standard that have been set by the G1 Sentinel Prime since in the G1 cartoon continuity Sentinel Prime successful ignited a golden age a piece.

My favorite Kup moments from transformers the movie were when Optimus Prime beat Megatron and kup showed up and said "finish him off Prime do it now!" You can tell from that line he was tired from all the fighting and they were close to winning the war if Optimus killed Megatron. And my favorite other kup part was when they flew to face unicron and hot rod was like "doesn't this remind you of anything?" And kup replied "nope never seen anything like this before."

I don’t know for sure what I’m going to do with Kup in my fantinuity. Character design-wise, he’s basically a clone of Ironhide with the ‘Old-Timer’ element cranked up to 11. They’re both ‘old guy with a lot of experience and a history with the younger hero’. Now, _realistically,_ there’s nothing wrong with having multiple characters that fit the same archetype in the same work, since it’d be pretty weird for there to be only one cantankerous war vet on an entire planet, but from a fiction-crafting perspective it’s a thorn in the side. We’re taught that redundant characters are a bad thing, because they take time away from other characters while failing to add anything new and unique to the story. Please note that Ironhide was a smoking pile of wrecked car-robot by the time Kup makes his first appearance in the movie, a blatant and ham-fisted removal of the established character so his replacement could be brought in immediately. One idea I had was to just make them the same guy. ‘Issue 1’ has Optimus Prime conspicuously fail to assign his old friend (in both senses of the term) Ironhide to his special task force, and when he goes to explain Ironhide goes off on a self-deprecating speech of acceptance. “Save the apologies Optimus, I get it! I’m too old, I can’t cut it like the younger bots can! I’m staying here because you don’t need me any more!” “Wrong old friend, you’re staying here _because_ I still need you! I need you to mentor the extremely capable and promising but arrogant and insubordinate young Autobot, _Hot Rod(tm),_ just like you mentored me!” But I also like the idea of Ironhide being a sort of ‘King’s Champion’ for Optimus Prime, or the Sir Kay to Optimus’s King Arthur. Always ready to watch the big guy’s back for him or play ‘Get Down, Mr. President!’ Prowl might be the one barking orders to the rest of the task force on Prime’s behalf, and Red Alert might be in charge of security, but Prime’s personal safety is _his_ function.

Kup is the type of grandpa telling you about his experience on wars and uses the skill of the past.
