L400 Passenger Seat Mod

If your L400 is camperized and you are looking to add a bit of space, this is a great way to do it. Moving the rear slider seat to the front is a fairly common mod on the L400 and there are few ways to do it. By using some thick gauge steel, a few bolts and a welder to pick up on the six factory mounting holes, the passenger seat can now rotate 360°, and slide all the way to the rear table. I also modified the rail to allow full travel with the seat facing either way, however this is completely not required to do the mod.
This modification is FOR OFF ROAD USE ONLY

Great work and video! But... As you said if it's raining out he has nowhere to go except laying on the bed or sitting on the floor And therin lies is the problem with the so-called "build outs" My Delica has pivoting middle seats as well and when it's raining out I rotate them towards the back and I can either lie my mat out on the floor and have plenty of headroom to sit or sleep or I can roll it up in the corner kick back in my reclining swiveling seat and cook up a nice meal, inside protected from the weather with plenty of room

great solution! I was thinking doing it with my 94 Exceed. when I found the headrests were different to the first row and are not interchangeable I let go of it. when I removed the 2nd row seats I was shocked how heavy they are compared to the front seats. my now revised plan of the camper setup doesn´t ask for it anymore but if it is less permanent conversion than mine it is a great and easy enough job thanks to you!

Awesome! I've been thinking about doing this but my Deli has the swiveling bench seat in the middle so I'd have to get a hold of a single seat track that would work with my existing passenger seat.

a lot of people strip their interiors to camperize so coming across a slider should not be to difficult.

Such a good idea of creating the rear welded-in bolts instead of using a bracket. Where are you guys located?

there is a simple mod to the seat locking mechanism that would allow the additional movement you wanted, without modifying the rails and is reversible should you wish to do so

if you remove the seat from the rails you should see how this interlock works. removing it requires undoing one nut (from memory) to allow the extra movement, you do need to flick up a plate on the opposite side of the seat as you move it.

Ya I found that after the job was complete unfortunately. It's a small steel catch that can be removed via a single bolt, or even zip tied up out of the way. When I originally looked it appeared the slides wheels were contacting the block. Upon closer inspection after the job was complete I realized that wasn't the case... :/

So, I'm guessing that reusing the original front seat tracks and mounting the rear seat that way isn't an option?

No the font, middle, and rear seats all have a completely different rail system. In order to get the slide and swivel option you need to use all of the middle row components.
