Hi Lovelies! This is so exciting! Today we’re looking at the La Maison du Pastel Natural Colors Set, which, Spoiler Alert, is just Stunning! We’ll also compare them to Sennelier Soft Pastels & Diane Townsend Soft Pastels.. .

Thanks. I have never seen a video done about the Roche pastels. I bought some inidividual pastels from the Rochester Art Supply years ago. They are my favorite pastels! The colors are incredible and the texture of them is just wonderful. I love the history of the company and how they worked with famous artists back in the day I have many many pastels, but if I were able to afford the whole huge set, I would let all the others go - Sennelier, and all the others. I am guessing that the Roches use a very unique type of clay to create them. The texture is exquisite!

Thank you so much for your exquisite video and the gorgeous way you described the feel of the pastels. As a pastel artist myself I too love these pastels and have been fortunate to buy a set for myself. I also love the Dianne Townsend and the Sennellier so you have chosen very well for your journey into pastel. You can also experiment with using Isopropyl Alchohol on the pastel as well as Water. This creates interesting effects as does any medium as the pastels are pure pigment paint. When you create your art work simply press glassine paper over it to fix rather than spray. Looking forward to enjoying your channel.

Good description of the La Maison du Pastel. They’re not hard like say Rembrandt, they are can be spread as soft as Sennelier but they have that pumice crunch and they do keep their shape in a line a little more than Sennelier if undisturbed. I just got the Katie Rogers 24 set and I was hoping I wouldn’t love them too much because of the price but... they are great. So glad to see another video - there aren’t very many!

I love your color pallet. Wonderful Christmas present. Local Artist Charles Peer just delivered our pastel landscape for our bedroom. It is gorgeous. Pastels are tricky to use.

If You use water on the soft pastel does it fix the colour so you don't need a fixative?

Depends on the paper and depends on the brand of pastel. If you use a sanded paper, typically, pastels adhere well because they settle into the tooth of the paper. Lots of pastel artist use pastel and water for the first layer to cover their paper and some pastel artists use water color as a first layer because it is cheeper.
