Starmer has been less than honest with many policies, i.e the "Sovereign wealth fund" doesn´t really work like the Norwegian one, he´s effectively just merged two organisations Sunnak created. It would be good if he did do this. Likewise, another big reform should be ending the absurdly long probation periods in the UK. The fact that you don´t get full employment rights until 2 years after starting (in most cases at least) is ridiculous. No employer needs 2 years to decide if someone is competent or not.

@@charlieleedham5265 On the face of it, the Labour should be the pro worker party but their latest actions towards workers suggest they're not which is why I'm not hopeful. For example: 1) Watering down Angela Rayner's new working deal (specifically with regard to zero hour contracts). 2) Cultivating ties with big businesses so that now they receive more party donations from businesses than workers. 3) Removing left wing members of the party such as Faizan Shaheen which then reduces their leaning toward worker rights and issues. 4) Stacking the party with those who are clearly on the Labour right. As I say, I want to be proven wrong but these things don't make me hopeful

It's good to hear an MP say that they only experienced hardship on rare occasions, and aren't trying to pretend that they have had it rough and instead remains humble and talks about the hardship his colleagues have faced. There's nothing wrong with admitting you may have had a more priviledged life than others, many of us have, as long as you're at least honest about it and try to still push for doing the right thing.

The great majority of the working class feel that there is a disconnect between them and the political system. And who could blame them? Time after time we've seen a total disregard for the working people of this country. From the MP expenses scandal where the public discovered that some of our MPs were literally criminals, using tax payers money to fund their luxurious lifestyles, all while there was about 4 million kids living in poverty in the UK at rhe time. We had the second room tax, where we saw the poorest in society, be punished for being allocated a home with more rooms that what was deemed needed for the occupants, and were then financially punishing them for this by taking the difference from their disability payments. Then we had that clegg guy who told us that if you voted for him and the lib Dems, he would make higher education affordable or even free to all that needed it, only for him to then after being elected into the coalition, not only doesn't vote against the rising of tuition fees, but votes for the motion. So when this guy talks about the working people not trusting anything a politician says, or seeing any real relevance to politics and their lives, then I say, can you blame them?

Id also like to see false self employment in construction dealt with. Where companies force workers to become self employed so that they don't have any employers responsibilities but in fact the workers are being treated like employees. It's the "done thing" in the trades, no workers rights, companies don't pay employers NIC, win win win for the business owners
@paulmapp8306
@paulmapp8306 Месяц назад
though in this case the "workers" should be negotiating the terms not having them dictated to them - though Im guessing that doesnt happen. The trades are effectively sub=contracting part of the work - but the key there is contracting..... its you that dictates the pay for that contract (or its negotiated at least and you dont have to take the contract). Id also add its far from just the trades..... Many Many sales jobs are the same. You work for the company but your paid commission based on the sub contract so again no employee liability. Its not necessarily a BAD thing - its likely that eventually ALL jobs will be this - your CONTRACTED to do a job not employed. Well ALL have no benefits - BUT well ALL be aware of it - and the cost of those contracts will be higher as there factored in at the negotiation stage, but in order for it to work it would need to be ALL workers in the same system (inc public sector).
@matthewmosley960
@matthewmosley960 Месяц назад
@@paulmapp8306 agreed that theoretically it's not a bad thing but in reality as a "self employed" labourer working for a building company, you have no say in terms of pay/ working terms, you have to request time off and it can be refused, you have to wear a uniform, the company owner dictates how and when work should be done, if you let on that you work for anybody else you get fired Yet at the same time, you have to provide your own tools and van, can be fired with zero notice (as in half way through a day and only get paid the half day), get no holiday pay, have to have your own liability insurance, have to pay for an accountant, get injured at work and get your pay docked for that day.. Here is a great policy for equality in the work place, bonuses should be equal across the whole business. So if the CEO is getting £100,000 in bonus, then so should the people on the shop floor. For too long people in suits have got rich off of the labour of the working class. The workforce on the shop floor is the spine of the company and they work just as hard (probably a lot harder) than any CEO. NO MORE PIZZA, PROPER BONUSES AND PAY RISES NOW!!!!!!
