I forgot to mention how LaCienega tried to steal Penny's boyfriend in the reboot because she was just that jealous ‼👀

I can see LaCienega being anti-Black. I mean, look at how Papi treats Suga Mama. She is cut from the same cloth as her grandfather.

Honestly Penny hung around bad people who really didn’t like her that much.

LaCienega was jealous of Penny bc of her sense of practicality, reasoning, & friend group leadership who made sound decisions. LaCienega was full of impractical obnoxious rants which wasn’t effective in solving peer problems. Her being fake in many ways in front of the adults including her parents goes to show that she didn’t mean well when she coexisted with Penny. I never understood why people act that way when fabricating their persona but switch to a polar opposite mannerism.

I hated her as a kid and I still do to this day😳. She was/is toxic.

Knew this one horrible kid that bullied me relentlessly in school, who acted polite and sweet in front of adults and my parents. My parents saw right through him though. Hate people like that.

Oh yes, I've witnessed a lot of LaCienega's growing up and not just girls but boys too. As I got older I learned why they act they way they do, especially when I learned about some their backgrounds and home life. It makes me appreciate how I was raised, the background, support and family I had growing up. I never felt like I lacked anything and remained grounded because of the awesome family around me.

I never liked LaCienega. She was so rude for no reason.

I think LaCienega was/is jealous of Penny because Penny has enough to be conpetition. The biggest is Penny's personality - down to earth, sociable, and kind. Penny can be shallow, like typical teenage girls, but it's never from maliciousness, but what society enforces. The episode with the party. Not one popular kid came to her party, but the outcasts and misfits and she had a problem with that because they weren't cool enough. In the end, she had fun and genuinely appreciated them. Penny has shown that she can/would get along with all types of people like the Gross Sisters, Michael, etc, and it wouldn't be to gain benefits, unlike her friend who would ditch them. They stick along because good things come to good people. Penny's an anomaly to LaCienega. Pretty, but not conceited. Smart, but not geeky. Mid to Upper class, but not poor. Compassionate, but assertive. Loves typical teen girl things like shopping, gossiping, and boys, but is proactive in other things not associated with LaCienega like football, genuinely having fun family time, and sticking with things that are considered uncool. (All in all, what you said in the entire video!)

LaCienega is the worst out of the bunch, yet everyone bash on Dijonay! It's so obvious that she's jealous of Penny Proud cause she represents the girl she wish she could be. LaCienega does realize that she doesn't have to hangout with Penny Proud if she don't want to, but does it to make her life miserable and for what? To feel good about herself? Please. Sooner or later everyone is gonna know about how she treats Penny Proud and will be shunned for it! 😤

La Cienega reminds me some of the Dominican and Puerto Rican girls in my middle/high school that talked 💩 about the black girls that were popular in our school. One of them even pretended to be friends with one of the girls and would often talk behind her back in the locker room after gym. Chileee

As a kid my mom didn't want me watching the proud family because she said all the latinos are sterotypes (we're mexican) and i didn't really get that I rewatched as an adult and okay i see it now with LaCieniga and her family Loud fat men, curvaceous spicy women But aside from that i knew LC was a b//ch as a kid, i didnt care about her at all I still love this show, nostalgia is a hell of a drug but it's weird to notice this now

It's hard to say if LaCienega was jealous of Penny in any way or just a spoiled brat, we have to keep in mind that she does have the looks, the money and she's never stops bragging about it specially as a single child, to me it felt that she just have a sense of superiority, which by my point of view she enjoys bringing people down that could ruin her popularity, being Penny the one with the bigger sense of justice in the group, LaCienega just felt to enjoy messing up with Penny by teasing her and making her look bad, even going as far as trying to steal her boyfriend when the boy clearly shows discomfort about her, however it's hard to say if she had any jealousy of Penny though, if she does I think is more due Penny being more independent and more confident in certain aspects that LaCienega probably couldn't as sometimes LaCienega in her first episodes she puts herself down on purpose to get things for pity and does things good for rewards as Penny never cares about it but it's merely ny opinion here

Lacienega is a spicy Latina/Puerto Rican mami stereotype, I find it ironic how she acts like she’s better then penny proud and her family despite how her character at least in the reboot is confirmed to be Afro Latina and has a similar skin tone to penny and her family along with her mom. Considering the show came out in the early 2000s when latinas specifically most Puerto Rican women like JLO were put in hip hop videos as objects of desire and put on a pedestal compared to African American/black women, I feel like her characterization was a response to that. She essentially views Penny as competition because she sees her as almost her equal, she’s nice to Dijonay because she feels like she’s no competition towards her and sense of superiority silently

There should have been an episode in the Louder and Prouder series that LaCienega gets confronted for her anti Blackness.

I may not be rich, on the other hand, my self esteem doesn’t exist, that doesn’t mean I would steal someone’s boyfriend because I’m jealous.

Remember that episode where lacienega cousin LaBrea come over and writers made her worse than Lacienega. In order to Lacienega sympathetic to audience by “oh see Lacienega not bad, she’s no where near as bad as her cousin” yeaaaah a little too late to made Lacienega likable considering how she always acted mean towards Penny and Zoey. Like you know you made a unlikable character when you literally have to make a another character who just there to make your mean spirited character better in comparison. Like that episode was so out pocket for how hard they try to make me feel bad for Lacienega. I mean there where moments where I did but then I realized it was too over the top to make me feel anything for Lacienega. Also the colorism episode where she was jealous that Zoey had a hot guy crushing on her and she was flatout mean to her. Like dude, Lacienega and Dijonay were so fake in that episode if they were Zoey real friends they should have been happy for her but noooo they had to bring down her self-esteem and make her feel bad that a hot guy actually likes her for once.

Her feet being squished into very tight shoes must feel so painful. That can't be healthy, i'm surprised she ain't yelling in pain.

Say what you want about LaCienega, but she was a real one. Dijonay, Zoey and Sticky were all fake friends who made Penny a mockery of the school on more than one ocassion, whereas LaCienega told Penny she didn't like her from the jump. That may be mean, but at least she was honest.

Lacienga is a spoiled grandpa's girl who is jealous of penny and is the token latina in her school. [The only other latine in their school is agatha. Lacienga has no other relatives living in the same area as her. Her cousin likely does not live in the same city as her.] Her insecurity plus the lack of attention she gets from her parents plus the tokenization contributes to how toxic she acts and none of that excuses how she has treated penny and michael. [An episode(s) exploring how lacienga deals with tokenization and how she handles colorism and other issues within the latine community as a brown latina would be interesting. Only problems are that there aren't enough latine characters for lacienga to interact with and the proud family family would not only have to create a lot more characters but hire a bunch of consultants as well. An episode exploring her relationship with her parents versus her relationship with Papi would be interesting as well.]

As a child, I didn’t realize how mean she was. I was more excited that there was Latina representation in a way that at the time I could kind of associate with. You know everyone confiscates here and there nobody’s perfect and we can only desire that profession that doesn’t exist

Lacienaga Boulevardez she never being hold accountable by her peers. Ok for her parents since she can hide her true colors so of course they don't know however for her peers. Like dijonay and zoey they rarely hold her accountable, in the louder and prouder dijonay for once hold her accountable but get back to statue quo not holding her accountable. I agree LaCienega was conceited and egotistical. I feel that’s why she bullies because it perpetuates her narrative. I love that penny was netural and cool, Penny reminds me of me. Penny lived more in reality and her family was grounded. That’s why I guess LaCienega kept Penny around her cause it’s cosplay and it’s beneficial for her.

I’ve been waiting 20+ years for Penny (or anyone really) to beat the brakes off LaCienaga and they STILL haven’t delivered. They even tried to shine her in an empathetic light with a “ bully “ of her own in the reboot, AND I WAS ON THE BULLY’S SIDE! This girl sucks! I don’t care how insecure you may be, it’s not okay to treat people the way she does. I knew that even as a kid, and that’s why I never felt bad when she was going through tough times on the show

You made me think back and I did have a friend like this! When I was a tween i had a friend like LaCienega I had a wealthy (and white) friend that lived in a mansion near a country club that I ultimately think was troubled and jealous of the fact that I got along with others better than she did. At the time I did not understand. I remember that she once made fun of my body and it hurt me (she was a size 10 and I was a size 6, but much taller). As an adult I see her insecurity. I was a kind child and never would have made fun of others' bodies. And once I said that I didn't like a song and she burst into tears and screamed and got angry at me because it was her sick fathers' favorite song. She broke with our friend group when she realized that she couldn't kick others out or act nasty. I think? Formerly she had been kind to me, mostly and defended me from all jerks (she was prone to bullying an autistic boy and a chubby girl) She sent a letter to every person in our grade that she was no longer going to be friends with the group that I was in. I burst into tears and felt like it was a personal insult. I thought of myself as the ringleader: and I was only because I was friends with everyone else. I never talked to her again. The teachers apparently did nothing. She now owns her own company. I hope that she is grown above and beyond her childish bullying. She has it all, it appears, but so do I. I don't wish her ill anymore. I really just wish that she could have remained friends with me. Why did she decide to divorce our group? Was it because we included everyone and we weren't all wealthy? Maybe it's for the best.

You describing what my mom calls narcissism in my grandma. How she and my uncles "compete" with mom and dad, how she fake and only does nice things to get me and my sisters to enjoy her. My mom thinks narcissism.

LaCienega always came off as similar to the character Regina George from the movie Mean Girls. The “frenemy” who might be in your clique but give them the chance they’ll pull the rug out right from underneath your feet. Deejonay wasn’t really portrayed as quite as “objectively beautiful” as Penny and LaCienega were supposed to be so she probably didn’t see her as a threat to her own popularity, etc. But Penny was both beautiful, popular, and could usually get the attention of the same boys as LaCienega, so LaCienega saw Penny as both a threat and an obstacle to her own wants at times. Like she could tolerate being in the same friend group, but when the opportunity strikes, she’s gonna go for the jugular. At least that’s how I always saw her, both as a kid and nowadays. Anyways as always, great video and analysis of the character!

Great video bro! I ever liked her character because of the trauma I experienced dealing with chicks like her. I do have to say Penny, Dijonay, and Zoey all had their OWN lane. Beauty, quality, and just uniqueness. LaCienega just chose to be an assh*ole because she FELT entitled. Regardless, her character is relatable in many ways. Keep up the amazing work!!!

I went to school with a LaCienaga. She had so many students and adults convinced she was "so nice" ane every just loved her. But she was so nasty to me. Honestly, a lot of kids had the adults fooled with how "nice" they were. They were horrid and the bullying was relentless. For me, LaCienaga is personal. She is like, the student counterpart to Professor Umbridge. They both act all perfect and dress all nice and shiney, ideal citizens at a glance, but secretly torture those who truly know them.

Seems to me Lacienaga was all flash and no substance. She had money and looks, yet only got people to come to her party because J-Lo, and other popular people was gonna be there. It’s like her sense of superiority is conditional. You take the wealth, big house, and conventional features away, what do you have left. Now with Penny yeah she’s pretty too, and she can draw people to her, but she’s not just that. She has decent leadership skills, makes good grades, actually looks out for her friends, and can be cool with just about anyone. I get the sense that penny’s more self assured. Like no matter what she loses, she’s still penny proud

Thank you! Finally someone who points out how anti-Black Lacienega was to Penny! She continues this in the reboot too. Especially with her Afro-Latina cousin, Labrea! But fortunately she seems to develop past this. And I agree that there is a lot of mixing between the African-American and Latine communities. That being said I still don’t think that non-Black Latinos(because we all know by now that Black Latinos exist right? That Latino is an ethnicity and not a race, right? Right) should be saying the n-word because it’s an anti-BLACK slur and so not their slur to reclaim. Thankfully I’m not friends with any mestizos who say the n-word. But still.

Lacienega I think she has some issues with her personality and how she fits in with people so she’s looking for friends that badly so this is why she is jealous of Penny because Penny proud she may not be rich like her but she has richness to peoples and a great rich personality so this is why Lacienega she was trying to be Penny proud‘s friend that badly so she could fit in those who are not in her level of course or not in the higher class so she noticed that people that are not in her level part of the lower class do not have the same privilege as her so I think it’s hard for her to make friends if she was with kids that are in her level that is so privilege as her she would make friends easier but I think it’s not easy for her to make friends Lacienega she’s just a girl who wants to fit in with the cool kids

I haven't watched the show but thought I could chip in as a latino and from the clips you put on the video. First of all I don't understand the critique about the quinceañera part? Like she is right, that day is about her, a birthday is about celebrating a person on their day, especially a quinceañera that is like a huge milestone, I would feel horrible if my friends did that to me, she just has the confidence to say it out loud. About the jealousy she definitely seems mean but I kind of relate to her in a way, I used to be so jealous of my best friend because I was always being compared to her and even to her I always came in second place, granted I don't think I was an asshole or openly stated my jealousy but I do wonder if LaCienaga's jealousy comes from a similar place. And latinos can definitely be colorists, I see it all the time, mocking dark skin with sayings like "cardboard color" "poor/ghetto color" referring to skin tone. There's also this old but sometimes still present "tradition" from the colonial times about "bettering the race" where basically if you get with someone lighter you're bettering the race and if you get with someone lighter you're "taking a step back", people saying light skin is prettier very casually too (I've had stuff like that said to me, really an uncomfortable "compliment") This analyses are kinda making me wanting to watch the show though, they're very good, and seeing Kiwi in the back is nice.
