Nets are being cleared of from 2.44 into the video to 24.45 Subsequent video of gutting, cleaning and icing all useful for assessing the size and condition of the fish. This uncut video compiled as evidence towards Cefas FSP 44 project to assess whether this fishery has low discards and bycatch, and high quality and economic value that would allow favourable quota allocation under Article 17 of the revised EU CFP.
The video was shot for multiple purposes, rather than just assessing catch rates, so frequently pans away from the hauler. However in the first 22 minutes of the video the tally of visible individual fish is:
21 haddock, 2 pout, 15 lesser spotted dogfish and 6 scad.
Other fish: cod john dory, red gurnard, whiting, spider crab.
The remainder of the video gives a good overview of the catch during gutting, washing and icing. This may include some fish from sole trammel nets.
One spurdog caught and discarded (legal requirement to prevent targeting) no bycatch (eg seabirds, marine mammals etc. No seabed habitat debris.
Unlike 2014 dedicated Fishface videos, this video material was not gathered specifically for fish counts. All clips included are uncut. Breaks were to allow stills photography, and would have been less likely likely to video during a quiet period of hauling. Unlike the 2014 videos there is no surface track of distance covered.
Still photos and data of this haul, as well as photos and video of other fishing conducted by FH214 that day, along with details of total catch and the vessel are available on the Pisces website:
