One thing that isn't even mentioned is the lack of a curb at the drop-off area. This is subtle, but huge. I've flown out of the new LGA 4 or 5 times now, and it's so nice to pull your bag out of the trunk of a Lyft and then just roll right on into the terminal. It's the little details like this that really tell you this is a new airport for the 21st century.
There'll be an airtrain like JFK come 2024. It'll connect at Willets Point, which is counterintuitive at first since you go away from Manhattan, but the idea is that it also connects to LIRR, which helps people on Long Island.
@@that90skid72 Cuomo approved demolition of Terminals 1 and 2 at JFK to build one big international terminal connected to the already huge international terminal 4. Terminal 7 will be destroyed, with most airlines moving to terminal 8 or the new big international terminal, and built up again to be connected to Terminal 5 and hauled as terminal 6. It will be primarily JetBlue. Terminal 8 will just get some new gates.
@@lucasdiaz9966 Really ?? Phew that's a big step forward. Both T1 and T2 were terrible, I had the impression I had landed in some remote 3rd world airport. As for T7 never been so not sure.
@@that90skid72 I’ve only been to T2 once, landed there, it was absolutely awful. T1’s alright, T7 is fine but really boring Honeslty. The terminals that needed some refreshing are definitely going to get it, so T8, T5 and T4 staying are fine. Only worry is whoever replaces Cuomo is going to throw these plans to the bottom of the food chain. I’m hoping though. Also obviously highway infrastructure will be made easier. I hope they add air trains post security aswell, every terminal felt like it’s own airport before which isn’t good for efficiency
@@lucasdiaz9966 T1 arrivals area was very disappointing if my memory serves me well...as for T2 it reminded me of my hometown's former airport, that's how bad it was...
I remember the first time I landed at Laguardia airport (I am European). My friend came to look for me and when he saw me with a panic face he asked me what was wrong with me, and I said to him - Is this one of the main airports of the most powerful city on earth? - He shrugged and said - But it's only the airport, the city is beautiful! -. Good to see that they have fixed that problem, now it is a real airport and not a dystopian set from a zombie movie.
NYC has 3 airports Two of them major international hubs America has a lot of airports it's not like Europe where each country has maybe 2 big airports or just one
@Liam Don't put words in my mouth that I haven't said. I did not say that the airports in the United States were bad, I said that Laguarida airport was horrible. And it is true that airports like Denver are world class, but ... Denver is not the most powerful capital on earth, New York is, and that is why it was strange that it had such an archaic airport. And everyone mentions the JFk or Newark, I think they also want them or are reforming them, because they are not exactly ... as I would say ... examples of airport architecture to follow.
I was shocked when I flew into LGA back in October. It's amazing and so well done. Its like half done though, can't wait until it's all uniform and pretty.
I flew into LGA in Feb 2019 and it was not the best airport but I had no problem with it. Now the new terminal is there, I gotta fly out again after the pandemic.
Flew out of LGA in Sept 2023. I was a little apprehensive that it was going to be so big and confusing. Ive gotta say that this was the BEST big airport i went through out of the 8 i used in Australia, USA and Canada. Its beautfiful, easy to navigate and so unique.
Super awesome to see this. Flying out of LGA monthly (pre-covid) was always dreadful. I remember my flight from DTW to LGA was delayed due to storms in DTW, so I missed my connection to YHZ from LGA, United rebooked me on the last flight that night at 11PM so I was stuck in that terminal for 12+ hours. I’ll never forget that day. Now I just leave and head into the city. Lesson learned.
The secret to a great LaGuardia experience is to go very early in the morning or after 8pm. You will have no traffic and you can be home in Manhattan in 30 minutes. I just flew in to the new terminal and it is beautiful. My only complaint is that the restaurants all close at 9 or 10pm and you have flights arriving up to 11pm. They need to schedule more late night arrivals and departures to ease congestion. And they need to keep the restaurants open later.
I remember when I was young, traveling through that airport terrified me. This is a welcome sight if I happen to remember those old memories while connecting through this airport.
I went through the old LaGuardia in 2015. Yea, it was a mess. It felt like I had gone back in time to the 1980s and it had a dilapidated miserable feel to it. This new one looks fantastic. Can't wait to head back over to the States one day and check it out.
Sorry we haven't been able to visit you for the last few weeks we have been in Bulgaria filming. But great to catch up with you. Huge thumbs as always. Glad to see this Airport is expanding. Thanks so much for sharing this with us. Stay safe and catch up again real soon.
Landed in LA Guardia about 20 years, and yea it was horrific! But I thought JFK Airport wasn't much better. As an avid flyer I pick and choose the airports I will fly in and out of...when I lived in N.Y., I would drive to Hartford, CT to avoid both N.Y. Airports.
Please stop comparing this to Singapore Changi airport. Singapore literally has one airport which is used by locals as tourist attractions compared to US which has over 160 international airports and many more domestic. All the money has to come from the local government and not much is received from the federal govt.
The improvements look great. I'm glad for the effort. I do wish that airport designers would look to the beautiful train stations of the late 19th and early 20th century for inspiration. If people arrived in NYC and walked through a place that looked like Grand Central Station or better yet the old Penn Station. A lot to wish for but those spaces inspire.
I can't wait to fly out of this terminal. I remember what it used to be like and OMG it was terrible. Great video that has inspired me to consider LGA. I avoided that airport for like eleven years. Seriously.
Wow! I flew into LaGuardia for the first time last year & couldn't believe how crappy it was. I could see the construction all over, though. Glad to see that they're building something truly worthy of NYC.
Wow, after spending a few years as a consultant flying in and out of LGA a ton and getting stuck there more than once this is a gigantic improvement. I'm looking forward to seeing it in person when my daughter starts college this fall..... well, hoping so, cross fingers.
Why are people impressed by the least important issues? Okay, so the terminals are being remodeled to look modern. The main problem is out on the runway, where your plane has to wait in line for 1.5 to 2 hours before takeoff because the 2 runways are over capacity for takeoffs and landings. What would impress me is my plane being number 4 or less for takeoff.
Finally the US is catching up to Asia, Europe, and the Middle East for airport experience. Hopefully this sets the tone for other airports in the States.
Finally! I have pretty low standards for airports, because I love traveling. I hated only 1 airport in the world and it was LGA. Now I may buy ticket to LGA again
This is a great video. Made a bet a couple of years ago with my friends that the new LGA (even just a section of it) won’t be open until 2025 but I’m glad I lost it haha
I suffer from anxiety every time I hear that I have go to LGA for anything. Fingers crossed the experience will so much better with all the improvements.
The check in area reminds of me of Haneda. Finally at least one of our airports can be compared to the rest of the developed world. Can’t wait to do a travel report at LGA.
There are other nice airports in the US. And there are many terrible, ugly looking airports in the developed world, like in Europe for instance. Plenty of airports in Germany, for example, are old and have the same old ceiling architecture you can find in old American airports
For all the people saying its not shining and shimmering like Changi or Daxing....I don't think we Americans can afford that right now... haha... The way they did this was probably the smartest thing for us.
