Continued coverage of the ex-RDG R&C Branch which was sold by Conrail on November 1, 1995 to the Lancaster Northern Railroad (LANO), a subsidiary of Penn Eastern Rail Lines (PRL) which was a grouping of shortlines owned by entrepreneur John Nolan. Since that time, PRL has changed ownership and is now known as East Penn Railroad. Operations began with a leased EMD GP painted black, followed by the purchase of CR 7557 which was a regular on the line in CR days. A short stint with an ex-TTI nee P&LE U28B was followed by the purchase of ex-Providence & Worcester U23B's for several of the Nolan Lines.

How great they looked back then. Now 2206 & 2204 are faded, on different parts of the ESPN system and the 2202's been cut up and scrapped. The LANO is now ruled by the 2204 and an ex-SP B30-7 (ESPN 7874).

Good to see 2202, 2204 & 2206. Sadly 2202 was scrapped, 2204 still in service East Penn RR and currently working up in NY. 2206 sold and was repaired & Restored and still in service im Mexico BPMX 2206

Love the sound of those old U23Bs. And they didn't look half bad for their age. Is the East Penn still running them?

See comment below. 2202 is gone and 2204 sees occasional use.

those trucks on the u23b are mostly seen under b23-7s. just wondering if she was an upgrade / rebuild, cuz I noticed she didnt smoke all that much if any.

They are original to the locos. The FB2 truck was an option over the standard type B. These units were ex-Providence & Worcester.

Awesome stuff. Would you happen to have older footage of the current Lititz Secondary and Manheim, Lititz, ect?

***** No worries, just thought Id ask. I live in Manheim and Ive been searching for old footage of the line. I wasnt alive pre 90s and I am just so curious what operations looked like back in the early Conrail days or even the Reading days.

ILIKETRAINSMAN Sorry, but the Lanc. & Nor. could never have connected Ephrata to Lititz. By the time it came into being the rails were lifted and some overhead bridges removed and filled in. This part of the R&C was abandoned on day 1 of Conrail, April 1, 1976.

***** Really? I didn't know that . I thought the tracks were still connected from Ephrata To Lititz when Conrail came around.

I have a copy of the bulletin order taking Akron to Litiitz out of service 12;01 AM 4/1/76. The line thru Ephrata to east of Akron (Extra Factors, Inc.) was in service until 1983, then they cut it back to the east side of Ephrata where it ends now.
