Fabian should consider himself a very luck boy to call you two his friends, that engine is going to be better than new by the time your finished, the attention to detail and the care taken over it is just amazing.
This engine rebuild has had more care and attention than any rebuild I know of! Probably more care and attention than when the engine type was designed. Watching you both work together is very enjoyable and pleasing. Thank you both.
Fabian, is going to be one lucky guy, that will be the best restored engine ever, everything is perfect. I love the boring, keep up the great content 😎
The professor and his apprentice. Cheeky apprentice with an infectiously happy smile. I'm liking your videos very much. The attention to detail and friendly banter makes for good viewing. Thank you.
What a masterclass this is Christian and Vera. I just love your sense of humour e.g. ‘almost done apart from the 2 hours I need to explain to everyone’ . Can’t wait for the next ones seeing you reinstall the cylinder head and ancillaries then getting it back in the car and hopefully it running. Great job both of you.
A long time ago I helped my friend Doug (passed five years ago) to rebuild his Morris Marina 1800, feeler gauge and torque wrench was all we had, no Plastigauge or most expensive bolts in Germany. How things have changed :-) I remember how everything had to be so right with Doug, I miss my friend :-(
I certainly enjoyed this video! I noticed some very important things: Vera is so good at helping, she not only shares the work and helps remember important torque specifications, she allows Cristian to use her toothbrush for lubing the pin bearings! Next, I noticed the "Schenck" ink pen - which reminds me of the equipment I used to maintain in a chemical plant. I had to learn some written German language, and worked with some German technicians. I love the accent you two have! Lastly, I am amazed at the attention to detail and consistent care you use in this work. This displays great character - not giving up and simply putting it together. Rebuilding an engine is always an expensive proposition, and I think in this case even more so. Bravo! My hat is off to you! I watched a teardown of a Mercedes V-6 diesel engine by "I Do Cars" on RU-vid, and the crankshaft design (offset of the piston rod journals) was similar.
Amazing work guys and both an inspiration and lesson in not only accute attention to details but a beautiful and loving marriage!you are clearly soul mates ❤ Keep the content coming !
Evening Vera and Christian. Have you had a hair cut 🤔 This has got to be the best engine rebuild on RU-vid 😆 The humour and the attention to detail is second to none 😀 I absolutely love Vera's face when your talking technically Christian 🤣 I hope Fabian will enjoy his Land Rover when you've finished 👍🏻 Cheers for some Sunday evening entertainment Stevie For Vera 😘
"Boring"! I'm sure there's a pun there but really entertaining to listen to your banter! Great fun from two surprisingly committed enthusiasts - you could build an engine for me any day! As a lad I use to watch my dad in the garage at home rebuilding old car engines, only difference was back then every mating surface was blessed with a small amount of cigarette ash...! As a long term Disco 3 owner I'm really interested in these videos, well done.
You know, if the engine comes by itself , I would do it any day. I did have a lot of fun with Christian working on that engine. But taking it out of the car and back in. I don't plan on doing that anytime soon again 😅👍🙋♀️Vera
Vera - you're a saint. And I'm super impressed with Christian. I watched every minute and it's early Monday morning here in Aus. LR should pay you for producing these tutorials. Cheers Simon
I would imagine a company doing this rebuild day in day out would have cut a lot of these engineering sequences, this is a very concise engine rebuild, superb at home, piece of engineering, very impressed at Christians patience, great video as usual. Discovery a superb vehicle built with a rubbish engine.
Wow perfect timing had a power cut on Friday at 5pm and came back on at 3pm today Sunday) so in time to see my favourite you tubers. High-performance academy are based in Wellington New Zealand so that's a Kiwi accent.
I find your video's enjoyable and captivating and this video certainly hits the spot and I suspect there are many viwers who know it all have certainly learnt a lot - I know I have :-) Many Thanks and keep up the education and entertainment 10/10
It was NOT boring at all. In fact it was one of the most easy to understand and easy to watch and learn videos. We all are impatient for the next episode until finally hear that motor fire up again!
No boring at all!!! I love Discos 3 & 4, and I considered some time ago going for one...but after owning & driving a 996 with engine rebuilt for 6 years and 70k kilometers, I had enough "pings & clings" and "check engine" alerts ...so i forgot the idea of the Disco. However your videos make me reconsider the decission and a am checking again Autoscout Europe😀😀 Thank you VERY MUCH 👍
One of the main reasons I watch this channel is because I like so much the interaction between Christian and Vera. Alas I don't have that anymore since my wife passed away last year, although not during engine rebuilds(😏) but during normal home improvement. Yeah, I really miss that a lot. You two are awesome!!
Amazing work Guys you couldn't be any more diligent. That motor is going to "purrr" Fabien should be confident to overland anywhere after this rebuild. Best video by far for a deep down and clean rebuild Land Rover should give you both a gold Star ⭐
😃👍Actually, for next weeks video, I think its going to be content from my Discovery 3, since we had to do a really fun, but much needed repair. But we'll see. We are waiting for more parts for the engine on Fabians Disco 😃👍🙋♀️Vera
Hi Guys, love the series, couple of points to raise, on you list of 5 things you dislike about the Disco 3, you mention the indecators not giving 3 flashes when touchrd lightly, for me as a HGV instructor that is one of the best things about the car in the UK, unfortunately Uk drivers are not as disciplined as there German cousins, over the last 100 years cars have had a simple stalk that you switched to tell other drivers what and where you wanted to go, now the current system allows you to accidentally touch the indecator, thereby flashing incorrectly, when you try to cancel it, it then does the same uncontrollable flashing on the other side, so many people get annoyed that they basically give up using the indecators, the old system worked perfectly for 100 years, so if its not broke dont fix it, the second point the mention is the crankshaft breaking problem in the TDV6 engines, the original 2.7 when fitted to Jaguar never had issues, but when fitted to the heavy Disco 3 , especially when towing heavy weights could have fractured crankshafts, when they took the capacity to 3.0 the problem was exacerbated, again not a problem in the Jaguar, JLR took the opportunity to fit only auto transmission and an 8 speed, they restricted the power in first gear when moving off, thereby reducing the stress on the week crankshaft, on studying the crankshaft you can see that the centre is quiet thin and appears week, that is mainly due to the original design of the engine being a PSA unit, designed for the front wheel drive Peugeot and Citroen, where it is mounted transversely and space is at a premium, its a real shame JLR never offered the TDV8 engine, as that is a much stronger unit, I imagine a second hand unit from the Range Rover 3.6 or 4.4 would both fit if you fancied making the Disco it should always have been , keep up the great series, Garry
Another great show! Vera’s that’s not clean enough was pretty funny. We are both fortunate to have partners that like to be part of our projects. Cheers, Bob & Jill
Another fascinating and definitely NOT boring episode. Your attention to detail is unrivalled. I think at the end you were actually measuring the breakaway torque so the actual rotational torque looks to be much less than 15Nm, probably around 5 looking at how easily it was turning. Great job!
I never tire of you guys. Landrover’s are surely in the top 10 causes of divorce in men of a certain age. Yet you two thrive on it ! At some point it would be great to hear a little of your story - I sense you have a lot of other wisdom to share. ;-). . In the meantime many thanks again. Hope to get Together for a schnitzel when this nuts is over Steve in Singapore ( regular visitor to Bonn).
Excellent video as always. The question of whether it would pass the torque-to-turn test gave it some added suspense. You must have been really relieved when it did in the end. And those bolts look awesome, well worth the money.
Fabian is on his own once that car leaves the driveway. I will not touch it again, since I do really indeed believe that the next thing is going to break right away again. That car is like haunted. 😅👍🙋♀️Vera
You have really digested all the info from that manual and it's helping me interpret it alot better I'm glad you got good use out of it haha will make my life easy next fortnight
Awesome work, that's how to build an engine correctly. Do you have a Part Number for Vera's toothbrush. You need to release Vera's 'Oh my God' sound bytes, it makes job so much better.
Cover the engine with a lint free cloth. A bit of compressed air to ensure the oil holes are clear and all will be better than factory. Top marks so far! 👍🏻🙏🏽🦘
Loved the explanation for the upper and lower big end bearing shells then thinking outside the box and wondering if it was German...you both have a fantastic command of the English language...I spent 15 years in Germany and my German is rubbish...when it came to technical German for engineering I brought a German/ English book in the 70s that was dated 1940 and was originally dated as 8 Reichsmarks...I used to get some interesting conversations trying to purchase engine and car parts...don't forget to buy Vera a new toothbrush...😋😋
