That really is an incredible hobby you have there mate. Are you in a flying club or was that a gathering of independent flyers? Also, is there a maximum height you can go to?
We are all independent Pilots and members of local clubs. This area is the Derbyshire Soaring Club which I’m not a member as I fly more in Wales. I was a visiting Pilot. There are clubs all over the UK. In terms of maximum height it all depends on the day. In the warmer months Pilots thermal up to the clouds which can be 7000 ft or more and also cover great distances over land. 100km distances are common these days on modern gliders. Learning to fly a Paraglider is one of the best things I’ve done in my lifetime. Been at it for 19 years this year!
Thanks John. Paragliding literally changed my life and I have been an active Pilot for 19 years this year! There are two courses that are needed to be completed. The EP (elementary Pilot) where are you learn the basics of Flight and how to handle a Paraglider on the ground and the first flights are undertaken. Once that has been passed, you move onto the next course, which is the CP (Club Pilot). In this course you are taught to learn to fly properly. On the CP course you will fly free like bird… it’s an amazing experience. Once that has been completed and passed you go on to join your club and you start your flying career. Normally you hook up with a local club coach who will take you under their wing for your first 10 to 20 hours of flying.
