Great job man! Legislators need to hear our arguments and you're doing amazing work in making sure they do. This is how we axe ridiculous laws and protect riders' right to safety. Keep it up!

In Asia, specifically in my country, i can never imagine not being allowed to lane split. My commute to work with my car takes me 2 hrs due to heavy traffic while in my motorcycle, less than an hour! I wish you guys well! Saves us alot of time and more safer aswell since we're not sandwiched between two cars in a stop go traffic.

I hate the whole I ride too excuse, like buddy, if you can’t lane split under 35 mph you shouldn’t be on a bike at all. unless you’re a beginner still learning the ropes of course, we’ve all been there.

I hope you guys get it legalized! Here's my two cents: It's legal to lane filter in Western Australia, but not at a speed greater than 30km/h (~19mph) and only between lanes of stationary/slow moving traffic (between two trucks is illegal). But often I find I am technically filtering illegally because sometimes I can get up to 45-50km/h due to traffic stopping suddenly on the highway or just the sheer volume of traffic stopped at lights to clear. (And also illegally between trucks. Because there's -always- trucks on the highway.) It's wild to me for it to be legal up to 35mph/56kmh. But it makes sense. In general safety though, I just want to try and behave in a predictable manner that other road users can understand. Thankfully motorcyclists were lane filtering before it was legal, and most peak-hour/highway traffic will create space for motorcyclists to filter. On the predictable manner tangent though, I find most road users don't know how to properly indicate around roundabouts. I get more worried about other traffic in or entering roundabouts than anywhere else. I still get traffic that tries to drive into me when I'm in a lane (ie, they're changing lanes into me) quite often, with one very, very, very close call recently where I had no exit strategy but to brake hard (there was no traffic around us, I anticipated a lane change by them but not -into- me). In other incidents, I find it hard to stay out of everyone's blind spots on a busy two-lane highway. Other times I can use lane filtering to decrease the risk of getting sandwiched, and to get out of the danger of being in the blind spot and the general vicinity of other vehicles.

Awesome presentation, AJ, extremely well thought out and articulated - as I've come to expect from watching your videos. Great point about legal lane splitting making it harder for people to ride like idiots between the lanes due to the slower, _legal_ traffic there.

10:54 - "what does it have to do with the bill?" Fucking AWESOME! Well done that man! I'm a professional data nerd and that idiot waffling on about 2022 data made me cringe. A better set of data would be to find some place that has permitted lane-splitting for some time and compare accident rates, fatalities, injuries etc before and after the implementation of the lane-splitting bill in that location. Trying to determine whether or not lane-splitting is more dangerous, based on data in which there's no legal lane-splitting allowed, is just ridiculous. Especially when you go on to admit that the main causes of the bad outcomes were speeding, lack of helmet and impairment - none of which have anything to do with legalising lane splitting.

"...drivers of vehicles with advanced technology seem to be way less attentive to other vehicles." *_FACT_* After all, why should they pay attention to the road when they've just spent 40+K for a machine that will do it for them - according to some salesperson who has no understanding of the limitations of the technology and in whose best interests it is to not divulge those limitations even if they knew of them. "Yeah, the collision avoidance system in this car is frankly shit and likely to cause you to run over cyclists and small children," said no salesperson ever.

The guy arguing against lane splitting on the basis of safety said that the study showed less serious injuries. Does he think having worse injuries makes people safer? And the cop just asserted his opinion, contradicting the evidence brought by his own ally. And the actual things causing fatalities were lack of helmet, intoxication, and inexperience. Notably absent from that list was lane splitting. If lane splitting is dangerous, they did an absolutely terrible job of showing it. More likely, lane splitting at low speeds just isn't dangerous, and it can save everyone on the road some time.

Drivers not used to motorcycles lane-splitting is such a bs argument. So many people I talk to are surprised its illegal. They say they see it all the time and thought it was legal and can't believe I don't do it. I've never met anyone who would appose it.
