He made the Grieg concerto come alive, as I had never heard before. He has the elixir that can revive an old piece.

A great artist is also a humble person and that rewards the music. You can see that he watched the conductor like a member of the orchestra, so that he can play the first note with accurate timing. Bravo Lang Lang.

@richardvolpe7664 Gosh, you replied to a comment, 7 months later ?! “A bad translation”? That’s all you can say 7 months later, attacking dissidents’ language ability? Oh come on, the trick is way old-fashioned. You gotta do more in your hater business.

31:47 - 33:05 What a finalé! I just heard this part from a video about modes, where different scales besides minor and major are explained. Grieg uses it here for great effort! And what a stellar performance of the musicians here!

He played all the right notes in the right order. Sorry to paraphrase Eric Morecombe. I think Lang Lang is a genius. I could listen to him all day long. In my humble opinion the greatest pianist ever..

To peterallen: A "genius" - - just because he did a so-so rendition of the commonest piano concerto in existence? And "the greatest pianist ever?" High praise, indeed!

Lang was quite expressive and emotional in rendering this work by using rubato and pedals, but that doesn't sound vulgar or boring to me. I feel comfortable with his rendition. Expressiveness doesn't necessarily lead to boredom, as long as it can be demonstrated in a variety of ways. BTY, I feel good about Leif's rendition as well. Being open-minded is not that hard.

@richardvolpe7664 I remember seeing your multiple comments in even a single clip of Lang’s performance. Seriously boy, if this is what your job requires, you could try to expand your domain, spreading your negative comments on more than one pianist. If you just got extremely addicted to him, then I wish you all the best for your mental health…
@richardvolpe7664
@richardvolpe7664 Месяц назад
@@YueLi-vw4rg Come to think of it, my domain includes pianists Trifonov, Malofeev, Buniatishvili (and I don't remember who else). Part of my "addiction" to Lang, you may be surprised to learn) has to do with my very favorable comments regarding his wonderful Chopin album (etudes and other short works), his Mozart concerto no. 17, and a few other works. In general, though, I can't help but being 'put off' by his more than occasional theatrics which, let's face it, elicit uncommonly negative remarks from a growing number of viewers, mine being conspicuous because of their quantity. He is, it hardly needs to be said, "all over the place" on RU-vid, so it's not easy to avoid catching glimpses of his extensive gallery of facial and physical mannerisms which, to my knowledge, are truly (and thankfully) unique in the area of classical music. My mental health seems to be all right (I guess). Now if only something could be done to help this pesky arthritis.

In general, if you dislike a pianist, you'll directly skip any video about him/her, and then RU-vid will recommend the videos based on your search history. There's one "prestigious" commentator here who considers the pianist's performance rather so-so. Interestingly, he/she has appeared in the comment section of this video and written critical comments for multiple times. How is it possible?

Such a sure piece and smooth performance. I believe that I like Mr. Lang in the concerted works that are gentle such as this, rather than his recital jobs.

Everything is always over exaggerated with this pianist to single notes or entire phrases. The tempo, rubato, dynamics.etc How people can rate this pianist I will never know. Yuja Wang is a far better pianist all round. As for The Grieg Concerto Stephen Kovacevich or Leif ove Andsnes are far better interpretations than this, everything perfectly balanced.

Lang Lang is one of the greatest pianists of our generation and one of the best pianists alive today. You should be grateful you are alive to witness Lang Lang. Get over yourself and your criticisms of Lang Lang's gestures and exaggerations and you will begin to appreciate Lang Lang's accurate and beautiful interpretations of every piece he plays
