Desoldering a broken DC charging port from a laptop is notoriously difficult without having access to a hot air solder station. This bypass method will let you leave the damaged charge port in place and wire in parallel a new charge port.

I just tried similar on my Asus UX31-e. Well sort of. I just "drilled" through original charge port and pulled my power supply cable through there. Soldered hot to red and ground to black. Laptop starts well (sort of) after this but doesn't show win10 battery charging icon at all. I have replaced this charging port once in the past twice even. You get what you pay for. Hence the just drilling it out. I think this model has some sort of circuit on it to sense the barrel connector in/out. Would like to bypass that too. Argh.

It took me 3 tries and 2 routes but very glad to say I got my Win10 charging icon back. First try (from lousy internet research of different manufactures power supply sence pins) was putting a 100k (or ohm maybe) resistor between ground and the sence pin) started up but no charging icon. After more research a guy mentioned (not Asus related btw) just jumping the sence pin over to positive in on the jack. That worked !!! Got it to start charging again. So happy I didn't smoke the machine while doing the other attempts. (((Me))) & (((Dodgy "Fixes)))
