Hey Jason. Watch you a lot. Here in Georgia I never see Larceny BP. So I am in another town today and I go into a store that usually has bottles I never see in my town. I see Knob Creek single for 80 freaking dollars with Knob 9 sitting next to it for 35. Then I see Larceny B522 for 65. I had to get it. Haven't tried it yet but Fred M. gave it a thumbs up so I am optimistic. Have a good day and I will hit the like button
We just reviewed this and loved it. For us it absolutely stood out from all previous Larceny Barrel Proofs. We may be in thr minority but loved the flavor punch! Cheers and Rock On!
Member last year when I asked you about shortages? Are you seeing them now? Glass, cork, white oak, corn, rye, etc. Way more distilleries and blending companies to compete for finite resources. This equals huge price increases and lower production.
I really enjoy your analysis and descriptions. Guys like you help me narrow down where I want to invest my Bourbon dollars. Thanks, and keep doing what you do.
Agreed! Ill even lay this scenario out there as I’ve come across it in my recent hunting… Rare, but I’ve seen the C921 still out there at a slight markup coming in at $75. I would buy that at that price over the A122 at msrp of $58. I have both and am happy with both, but C921 is much better and justifies the price increase if I was to pick only one. Maybe that will help someone if they find themselves in a similar situation. Cheers all!
I have a bottle of C921 that is very good. I could go buy A122 right now for $70 plus I have to buy a bottle of regular larceny to get it. So $94 for A122 and a bottle of regular. Not a bad deal but I just tried an old elk wheated barrel pick that’s also $75 and better than the C921 I have. I’ll hold off on buying A122 and look for reviews on The B or C
Wonky is such a underrated, underutilized word. Great, honest review Jason. These hit the glass cases around here at $90 and it’s an easy pass at that for us.
Oddly I just walked into a small store in my area and in March 2023 I found an A122 so I picked it up. Will let you know my thoughts maybe this one could use 2 to 4 drops of water?
This was great information, in Philly they do not tell you if it is the 22 or 21 so you have to see it before you purchase it. Thanks for the info.👨🏾🎓
Thanks for sharing. Surprised how hot this one is. I still have not had the Larceny Barrel Proof, but I can enjoy their regular so I imagine I should try some of these when they come out. Cheers!
Love this review. And I appreciate the honesty. I picked up C921, and I have never found a barrel-proof that had one standout note more than that one. Total honey PB&J in that bottle!
Weird, I hope your bottle opens up. Mine has been open for a couple months and it’s the best Larceny BP I’ve had since 2020. The alcohol has mellowed in my bottle and it’s all flavor.
I have no problem with the flavors. It could have also been my palate coming off a bit of a break. I still think it doesn't drink like a wheater. The last 2 we're closer to what I expected. But as I said...it's a solid pour.
@@TheMashandDrum oh I see, makes sense. I will admit that my palate is kinda blown out so I just need strong flavors, haha! Great review, bro, calling it as you see it and not just saying everything is great and a must buy.
Same here, this one changes dramatically with some time. My bottle is about 70% full and sat like that for a month and damn is killer. Wish I could find another
@@CAT3616G nice, I have never been able to find ECBP. I am hunting for another LBP tomorrow though. I have a feeling that this bottle will become a favorite once people understand that it needs some time. Once it opens up I think it is better than the B521
I recently picked this up for $47 and as a person who is fairly new to Bourbon, I really enjoyed it. I added a few drops of water and it felt like the alcohol punch became very tame and it got sweeter.
The Larceny a122 was pretty good for me. I agree it does have a small sting on the back end but the sweetness and flavor punch on the front end makes up for it. Cheers
Nice review brother! I wasn't impressed with it at first but after a few months it opens up incredibly...would love to see you revisit this one in time.
Just had a couple oz of Larceny tonight. I have not had any of their barrel proofs yet. I tend to like Rye bourbons more than wheated bourbons; but I do like the basic Larceny.
People chasing Kentucky bourbon is the same as people chasing Blanton's..just chasing it because it's the original and it's nostalgic..there's a ton of other whiskey better than Kentuckys
There’s no right/wrong answer on this one. If you like heat, you’ll love this. I’ve gotten to the point where I trust my own palate-that said I do like to watch the reviews. I got it for close to retail, which is pretty much how I shop for all these days. At MSRP, I loved it. Others may not feel the same…and that’s okay too.
Picked a bottle up the other day, it did come off as a little hot at first, but hopefully with a little time and a little ways down the bottle it’ll open up some, great review!
I liked the B521 and the C921 enough to give the A122 a try. I think at $50/$60 it’s still a great value. I don’t know if I’ll see one but if it’s around retail, I’ll grab it. Great review Jason!! 👍
Appreciate the honest feedback. A122 just hit the stores in VA for around $80. I’m a Makers Mark fan so I’d rather spend that much on one of their private selection bottles!
I wouldn't let one person's opinion sway you from seeking out a specific bottle. Most YTers and folks i've talked to prefer this batch over most others
Local bottle shop in L.A. has marked up all EXBP to at least $100. I believe the Larceny was even higher - only had one bottle in the “ premium” case. Holding on to my last bottle of Rebel 10 Year that is by far my favorite wheater that I’ve come across in the past few years.
I finally cracked the B521 and I really like that one. A great easy drinking wheater. I'll probably try to get a sample of this one but not a full bottle. Agreed with the wonky availability, we go long periods here with nothing and then 2 releases will hit the shelves at the same time.
Great review Jason. I recently did a review on the A122 as well and on the palate I got a lemon citrus note which was very pleasant not sure if you got that as well going back at it again if you have.
This is what I live about the bourbon community. We can disagree and still respect each other. A121 is on my top 5 forever list; I thought it was a dark chocolate covered berry.I just picked up C921 and it’s great; and A122 I picked up today and had the neck pour. I agree with the ethanol kick but I love the flavor punch you described. I like the Larceny Barrel proofs more than the Elijah Craig. Cheers and keep producing the great content. Ps I am in PA and everything is retail pricing; I get Eagle Rare for $28 and Eh Taylor small batch for $45. So o get the larceny for $49 and the Elijah Craig for $65. Those prices definitely influence me
I had this bottle open for a couple months. After some air it changes dramatically. I didn't care for it to start, but at the end I went and found 2 more.
I stumbled across a bottle of this on the allocated shelf at my local liquor store. I was hoping for an ECBP twin since I can’t find that anywhere. The Larceny is good but still looking for that ECBP.
Little open time maybe drop of water. Hopefully hold flavor but tames alcohol. I have last 3 bottle including the 22. Yet to open abd try. At the pace I'm buying bottles it might be a bit.
Starting to lean away from barrel proofs and back into 90-100 proof pours. While the Rebel 10 SiB is pricey-er I’ve been enjoying it more than my Larceny & ECBP C921s recently.
Consistency. The standard all bourbon strives to meet. Bottles like Stagg Jr., JDSBBP, and Russell's Reserve 13 Year Barrel Proof jump to mind. This seems to be the theme throughout all barrel proof products. Products like Larceny BP and ECBP can be a mixed bag, so frustrating at times and so rewarding at other times. I skipped ECBP last year and should have focused on Larceny instead. Maybe I'll get lucky and find Larceny C921 and B521. Would be interesting to see a blind between the best of what Larceny had to offer vs the best of ECBP. A Tag Team Match!!
And a couple of tenets for consistency are to: 1) avoid single barrel expressions, and 2) drink blended whiskeys. Of course, where's the fun in either of those things? 🤣
I got into bourbon a few years ago. I'm not a huge collector of higher end stuff, trying to keep my "big" spends in roughly the $60-$100 range (maybe if I'm lucky, I snag a Booker's from time to time). But that means I have quite a bit in that $27-$35 range that sort of fills out the bulk of a novice's collection. I ultimately determined that - to me - regular Larceny is the least necessary bourbon of that group. Knob 9 is the "it's as good as bourbons 100x the price" entry. EC is solid and has mid-range expressions that are considered by most to be really good. 101, Old Grand-dad and various BIBs are the budget darlings. Where does Larceny fit in if you have these others, other than the story about the label that no longer reflects any sort of reality? I'm not saying it's not good or that no one should like it. You do you. I just don't really see it as really bringing anything unique to the table or having a unique place in its group. Thoughts, anyone? What is YOUR "unnecessary bourbon"?
This is why I hate NAS whisky. They charge the same as ECBP which is 12 years old. I am sure the age differences between the 2 are really driving the mouthfeel, complexity, and finish. What worries me is that if ECBP figures out that people are spending the same amount for a younger product, they would be silly not to drop the age statement, and we all lose.
For those in the whiskey game awhile the first 3 or 4 stag jr we're a train wreck and hot garbage. Big distillers like this will end up getting it right it seems eventually.
ALL of these (to me) came across as quite rough around the edges, hot, stingy and missing enough depth of flavor to justify forcing something down and fighting it the entire way chasing the (missing) flavor……and at THIS price-point….there’s DOZENS that are better, cheaper and more available. P.S. I have bought 5 Larceny Barrel Proof….I’m done with them. 👋✌️
