@ Jacob J he was way past his prime and looking back now, you could see early signs of his Parkinson’s setting in. He really gave his life for the sport
Larry was pushing to hard with the trash talk and 3rd round knockout that Ali played along and made a fool out of him 😂..he was way too smart for Holmes
@@smokenojoke8182Ali liked Holmes...he took 'm in with Rumble in the Jungle..he gave him a good start and oppurtunity to learn the business...they had a good relationship before Tyson came in the picture
Larry Holmes felt sad after the fight and cried. Tyson made Holmes richer it was just business. He could have not fight Tyson because he was retired and Holmes saw the money and just came out and fought and lost no heat between those 2 boxers even today
@@oscaralegre3683Ebonics derives its form from ebony (black) and phonics (sound, the study of sound) and refers to the study of the language of black people in all its cultural uniqueness. In other words; it's African American English, especially when regarded as a language in its own right rather than as a dialect of standard English.
Ali isn't innocent I couldn't pull out a gorilla slapping him calling him Frazier. The boxer who helped him financially when he was in prison for not joining the war. I thought to myself that how would black people act if boxer Jerry Cooney did that. What goes around comes around Ali loosing to a bum Leon Spinks to the beatdown from Holmes. Holmes lost post retirement to Tyson and Holyfield and Tyson lost to a bum Ike Douglas poor sportsmanship to Holyfield by biting his ears out of rage he couldn't knock out Holyfield a boxer with a heart ailment and trash talked Lennox Lewis who whipped the so called baddest man on the planet made him want to give up boxing. He 25 plus years later fights Roy Jones Jr but not avenge a fight with Lewis Gee I wonder why?
Maybe it was Larry's way of warning him not to fight him. People blame Holmes for beating Ali he was the only person who cared for him. Not the doctors not the promoters example Don King not his corner who should have threw in the towel and not the referee. Holmes cried after beating Ali. Not even the fans at that time Ali is marketable but when it's you the athlete will deal with lingering injuries when go past your prime who is going to be there for you 😉
@@gerardoarambula4377 buster Douglas did it for Holmes?? I thought he just beat up a Tyson who was on coke and shit lol 😂 he won but was it for Holmes?
@@elijahware3030 it was for his moms who died day before. But I say he did it for Holmes just Luke u all say Tyson did for ali.. question thou why dist Ali never take test after fights???
For what giving Ali a late career payday? I loved Ali but I doubt I loved him as much as Holmes did. Boxing is very strange in that way. You need other great fighters to make you great you often train with them, have them train you, train a fighter that is fighting you and/or fight them yourself. Beating an old Larry Holmes is no great achievement for a great fighter just like beating an old slow Ali was no achievement for Holmes. Tyson didn’t need any extra motivation to beat a 38 year old Holmes that had been retired for 2 years after losing twice to Michael Spinks who Tyson knock out in seconds. 🙄
@Sassyquatch he deserved?? U talk like a fuckin noob.. U prolly know nothing abt the history of ali-holmes or the fight etc.. Please ,holmes was a very humble person. Don king was responsible for whatever shit befell on ali and holmes cried after beating ali cz he was his inspiration/friend. Stop talking trash like u know shit, fckn casual
did he what. cus hated holmes and specifically trained tyson to ko him. which he eventually did. in fact, larry is lucky tyson wasn't born 5 years ealier or it would have been larry who?
@@silurogt2066 in 1980 holmes was 31. had tyson been 20 in 1980, he'd have knocked him out quick. like he did with berbick. only reason larry went 4 rounds with mike in 1988 is he ran the whole fight until tyson caught him.
It's fight promotion. If you can't see, Ali is smiling & laughing. So is Holmes. They were sparring partners & friends. But both boxers and it was a business. You try telling Ali he shouldn't be fighting any longer at that time. Think he'd have listened?
@@capicornboss I grew up watching Ali fight. He is what got me boxing. He did not care at all. If you noticed, Holmes was conveniently allowed to get that close but when they both stood up Don King stepped in? It's called selling the fight. "Holmes, former sparring partner of Ali, slaps him! News at 11!" Go do more research on the fight. You can find so much right here.
You can never make such a comment. You'll never know who was better because Ali was past his prime. Larry Holmes was a genius in that ring son. Don't forget that.
@@criptik5208 As Ali was showing clear signs of Parkinsons, it was so easy to tell he was un well, be couldn't even train on the speed bag due to his rythmn being so off.
After eating humble pie, Larry confessed in an interview that Ali taught him what he knows I wish I could find that video. One thing I love Tyson for, is his love and respect for Ali
@@dougfredricks2017 You're kidding... right? As unimaginably disrespectful as Ali was to other fighters... *in particular Joe Frazier* you're complaining about that little tap on Ali..? Yeah, you were kidding. Sorry, for a second I thought you were serious 🤭 🤣😂

@@msu15nah. He was being extorted by the Nation of Islam. They kept the train running so long to get more money out of him. Once the money dried up, they abandoned him.
This is all play acting to promote the fight. Ali did it with Joe Frazier as well before with the fake fight in the gym. Holmes cried after this fight, he loved Ali, always had and learnt everything from him
Idk why people are defending Larry Holmes, he clearly wanted to be the world champion and win against Muhammad Ali with every dirty trick possible, I have seen a video when he was around 60+ years old when he lied saying "I tried to stop the fight but the referee didn't stop it and shit and that he went to ali changing room after fight and hugged him" this was all cap after he received backlashes from everyone we all saw Muhammad during that fight he was going full try hard mood when he knew ali was unwell and unable to fight we all know of ali wasn't unwell ali would of won in the first round. I don't care about what people will try to convince me I know what I say
Holmes knew Ali and learnt everything he needed to be Champion and stay Champion from Ali. These 2 had tremendous love for each other. Listen carefully to Holmes voice after the love tap to the side of Ali's neck/face. Remember Holmes was an undefeated Champ (and that ego goes uncheck) and remembered what Ali did to Foreman.
Ali didn't need money. He fought because that's who he was, a fighter. When you have an individual like that who's done so much for the world, it's the responsibility of people close to him to stop him from hurting himself. Forever the goat
@@spoj3922 ... of course those around him let him down, and of course Ali had the mentality and pride of having been the best. But he also needed the money. It was documented shortly afterwards as to how he had lost millions by permitting the Nation of Islam to manage his affairs, his divorces, and Don King who fleeced him regularly. King had kept setting up fights cashing in on Ali ... with exorbitant promotional fees and more.
Ali had difficulty getting out of the chair and talking. He kept his word. No won’t knock me out. A younger and healthy Ali would destroy this mouthpiece. Iron Mike made Champion’s respect stand.
Ali was clearly getting elderly. And buddy said the key word…”Ali had his day.” That was straight facts and sad they did this fight to sell tickets. Poor guy.
Ali wasn’t elderly lol he was only 38. What you mean is the effects that his boxing career had on his health were already apparent. He definitely shouldn’t have been fighting anymore.
Not getting elderly, he was THIRTY EIGHT here. He was suffering from early Parkinson’s disease and fairly sever brain damage. Genuinely criminal that this fight was allowed.
Dude he was showing early signs of Parkinson’s, that’s why he was moving very slowly. Idk how the fuck this fight even happened. I really think don kings bitch ass made sure it happened just so he can get paid.
Larry Holmes had no idea by disrespecting Ali that a young Mike Tyson was agitated by that slap to the cheek of his hero Ali. Full circle Tyson knocks Larry out
Larry Holmes LOVED ALI he went to Ali's locker room after their fight gave Ali hug and cried. He hated that he fought Ali and regretted it during fight. He was interviewed years later and said he was pretty much open handed slapping Ali, Holmes hated that he had to punch his HERO! After their fight Holmes told Ali your still greatest of all time in my book!
@@joeroganstrtshots881 That was a little "promo" slap. He didn't even put any force behind that. These are also boxers that are used to taking full force punches from people like Foreman and Tyson and they both knew it. That "slap" wasn't nothing but a lovetap on the face to promote the fight. That's why you can see that Ali wasn't even angry. He was just like "you slapped me. You crazy." Holmes said he wasn't even throwing full punches and was pretty much throwing open hand slaps in this fight because he didn't wanna KO his friend. This fight was just a paycheck to both of them with no real animosity. Holmes even hugged Ali and cried after the fight because he regretted punishing Ali like that.
Yeah then had to hear Holmes about how his arm got caught in the ropes that why he got knocked out, Holmes was full of shit, so we just completely ignore that just before his arm got caught that Tyson didn't plant you twice already? 😂😂
At the beginning of the Tyson vs Holmes fight Ali whispered in Mike’s ear to whoop his ass. Mike proceeds to do just that on his behalf. In a later interview Holmes trashed Tysons boxing skills in an interview with heavyweight legends Ali, Frazier, and I believe George Foreman but don’t quote me on that one. Long story short I always believed Holmes never got over that whooping. Funny thing how life comes full circle I believe Holmes was at the end of his career like Ali was when he beat him.
You could see that Ali didn’t have his legs even going into that fight. I wonder if Ali would have had as many health problems if he had sat this one out.
Because it was a work lol don king said he watched wwf wrestling one night saw the promos and said need to bring that too boxing ..it was staged that's why he barely slapped him ..
@@candyk7851it wasn't real... All the tough talk before fights is a job to sell tickets. 9/10 they hug it out right after the fight or they just go separate ways but it's rarely ever REAL beef in fighting sports. Connor McGregor is the poster child of selling a fight.
@@smokedosia1723 Incorrect, Ali would have never allowed someone to slap him to promote a fight. That was a ridiculous comment. Ali was to old and frail to get up and right that horrible wrong from a coward of a man (Holmes was usually brave but cowardly at that moment). Larry Holmes' boxing style is nothing but a follower and imitator of the legend Muhammad Ali, and had it not been for this, he would not have achieved such success and fame.
Just to hear Ali with a clear and strong voice again is a wonderful thing. I have great memories of growing up watching his fights and loving his banter
Sad to say Ali health problems had already kicked in at this stage , the people around him, didn't care enough for him to tell him to retire and focus on his health.
Yeah, that’s probably the coldest, most humbling response I’ve ever heard during a pre-fight conference. Straight to the point, remind you where you came from.
