In this video I take a close up look, discuss and review the Laserdart Silver Widow darts. These are the pre 2016 version that were made by Nodor/Red Dragon in the UK. They had an original price tag of £13 or about $16.
Horizon Darts catalog that came out in *2015* horizondarts.com/developer/catalog/mobile/index.html#p=26 Horizon Darts Blog Post From Feb 2016 - www.horizondarts.com/blog/back-in-the-usa.html
Thanks for a great review! Back in 1980 I threw Black Widows and really loved them. I recently picked the game back up and started looking for the same. Surprised to see them at $150 or so. I ran across your review of where these were made and the cost was 16 bucks! So,I have been looking at some other choices you recommend from sites overseas. I did order a set of Designa Dart Dark Thunder V2 from DartsCorner and will see how they fly when they get here. Seriously looking at the DataDart Black Dart in 23g but they are thicker and shorter than the Widows. At this point,I dont think I could stomach a set of Black Widows knowing they ripped me off way back then. (Although at the time,I thought it was a fair deal) Anyway, great videos you are putting out for us. Thank you for pointing out a less expensive alternative to many of the high profile darts out today. Always nice when I get and email that WorldWide Darts has posted a new video!
Cheers! I think you'll really like the Dark Thunders. It's nearly identical to the Gary Anderson Noir that cost about 3x as much. An all around great dart and amazing quality. Thanks for the comment 👍
Found this channel out around 2 weeks ago after getting a dart board and playing. Now i'm hooked, I must have watched most of your videos already and wait daily for more haha.
Oh and every time you say fast forward if you don't wanna here me talk, well I never do because you give great info. I feel if you really love darts then anything about darts is interesting and useful
I'm still waiting for the dartitis video. Until yesterday I didn't know exactly what it was. Found a dart documentary called bullseye and beers, I think. Best dart video I have ever seen! Hey worldwide, have you done a video about your grip? I would like to see a vid about that
Very nice smooth looking Dart I heard a lot about the tungsten deal myself oh they had 35% oh it's 40 it's 46 and I hollered bullshit myself because it's not possible unless you're throwing something the size of a lawn dart but when people start talkin that's what you end up with thanks worldwide good review
Cheers Andy! Good news though... Just today a friend of mine arranged to have several sets of darts tested for their actual tungsten content. If all goes well I should be making a video on it soon. 👍
Question on your Cosmo carbon stems and flights... what has been your experience with durability of the stems (as they are very expensive)? Have you broken any? Second question... what is the weight of the Cosmo flights? (I don’t want to back weight my darts). Thanks.
Hi Ed, I've had great luck with the carbon stems. I've never broken one but I have stripped the threads... but that's only because of what I do here on RU-vid. I'm constantly screwing and unscrewing my stems so I can demo them on other darts. If I didn't do that I suspect I'd no issues with the threads at all. That said, the stems still lasted about 2-3 years! The weight of the combo is actually lighter than a normal nylon stem and flight. But I can only compare my tiny flights. All in all I'd say they're about even weight with a normal setup. Now that refers to the Air version flights. The regular versions are a bit thicker and slightly more heavy... but not that much more heavy.
They bend easy, they add a lot of weight to the back end of the dart compared to a nylon stem, they cost a lot, and if you robinhood one it's toast. I dislike them quite a bit because they remind me of a 1980's dart and it seems like everyone and their brother uses them here in the states.
Personally, I don't really care much for them because it's more difficult to insert a flight into an aluminum stem. Sure, it's easy enough to grab a dart tool and open up the ends a little, but you have to be exact about it. Don't apply enough pressure, and you'll be prying, testing, prying, testing, prying, etc. Apply too much pressure and you have to use another part of the dart tool to close them up a little, testing the fit, opening, testing, closing, testing, opening, etc, until you find that sweet spot where they're opened up enough to insert the flights, but they're closed enough to grip the flight so they aren't constantly falling out. I'll pass. Plus, nylon stems are much more forgiving to the bottom point of the flights by greatly reducing the possibility of mushrooming them so bad that it's impossible to insert them. The more test fitting you do, the more your odds increase in favor of destroying your flights before you ever even get them installed, not to mention the fact that every time you open and close the openings in an aluminum set, the more you run the risk of stressing the metal which can increase your chances of breakage in a Robin Hood situation. That said, depending on the set I happen to be throwing, I find that even though it isn't much, the added weight to the trailing end helps level them off a little. I normally throw in a heavy arc, so the added rear weight is beneficial to me. If I'm using a barrel that's more nose heavy, it's going to be worse, so I end up with darts landing too vertical in the board. Sometimes an aluminum stem with a .125 or a .150 micron flight can help keep the nose up a little, which in turn makes them land at not such a steep angle. But again, I'm really not a fan of aluminum stems just because it takes more time and patience to install flights without wrecking the bottoms, and once they are installed, they're more prone to falling out during tight groupings. The only way I know of to tighten a set of aluminum stems after the flights are installed is to grab a pair of needle-nosed pliers and squeeze on an angle, which can wreck the pretty finish and coating of the stem. I'll take a medium length nylon stem with either a .125 or a .150 micron flight with a lock spring over an aluminum one any day. They're cheaper and easier to work with and don't require an o-ring to keep the stem and barrel firmly secured to each other.
Its shameful that horizon lied about there product but I have to say I have 20 gram silver widow and black widow I got on sale and they throw so damn good. I am not taking sides with horizon and the price is expensive but damn there hard to beat. Theres no way I'd pay 140$ that's the set that the points will move a little. Totally ridiculous if you ask me fixed points will do
I agree John. The darts are perfectly fine as seen in this review. But the strong point was that they're nothing more than a $20 dart. Great darts but the story behind them is extremely shady at best. Possibly illegal trying to deceive their customers like that but that's not up to me to decide. Imo it's a decent $20 dart which is the approx price they were sold for in the UK for years and it bothers me that my fellow American dart players got deceived into thinking they cost a lot of money
@@WorldwideDarts totally agree and I purchased them before I knew about the facts or I wouldn't own a set. The controversy I believe has dropped price a little still yet I agree not worth list price and wouldn't buy them now
I'm with you. I bought some Black Widows back in Feb of 2016. Right about at the time they switched. I didn't know any better lol I just thought that expensive meant good and I liked their marketing. However! Holy moly they sure are some accurate darts! When I bought them, my friends would take turns using them. The other 3 sets would collect dust and still do. My fav ones before were some little 19g bombers that I can't throw worth a beaverdam anymore. These 22 gram widows throw right where I'm looking. Even after a 4 year hiatus, man like right where I left off lol. I wish I would've got the fixed point ones even though the movable points don't bother me. Nothing like a solid dart. I wonder if i can convert it to a fixed point. None the less yeah it hurts a little that I got ripped off apparently but they sure do throw amazing. I'll have to try out the pure dart one because I want something just like these widows but maybe 23grams. Love a smooth barrel, those aggressive textures aren't for me but maybe my taste might change. Really like the Black Widows tho! Unfortunate to hear about the greed behind them. If mine were made in Kenya, I'd like to meet those Africans and say thanks for the good quality control at least
I would send you photos of my spears, but they're 45 years old, 18 grams, original points, (only sharpened), long barrel, short shaft, skinny flights.... They are rippers, they are old, they look horrid, but I've thrown them my whole life..... they fkn work.
