LASO is hard but everything feels like child’s play once you get to Gravemind. This level destroys souls, eats babies, and is meant for the bottom layer of hell. If you attempt LASO be prepared to have your run ended by this mission
my friend and i found regret harder overall tbh, gravemind is really just all in that first room. everything after that's just somewhat difficult skips.
I love that cutscene where the arbiter is being stripped of his title and being branded a traitor but it cuts to miranda being awarded medals and such. The dynamic between what's happening on both sides is fantastic.
The way this game showed the dichotomy of humanity and the Covenant was absolutely amazing and one of my main reasons for thinking of this game as the best Halo game. Bungie truly did some magic with this game, it just sucks that most people only remember it for how it was mainly cliffhanger for Halo 3 and how it didn't feature everything it promised in the original E3 showcase.
I'll be perfectly honest, I don't know if 5 grand is enough to motivate someone to undergo the psychological torment that is Halo 2 LASO. Sure, being the first person to do it deathless is a cool feat and all, but it's never been done for a reason. It's gruelling. Excruciating. A test of one's resolve and determination, their sanity and willpower. I hope to see it done, but I don't expect to.
I agree, the time it would take to master the game on LASO (probably close to a year with weeks of play time) is just not worth that amount of money, needs to be above minimum wage at least lmao
This 100%. This challenge hasn’t been beaten in 18 years for a reason. If you want to motivate people to beat this, you’re gonna need to give a life changing amount of money for anyone to consider it.
@@shin867 I think if the winner were to be signed onto the Moist eSports team as part of the historic victory, that could potentially be a deciding factor.
For those who don't know. Halo 2 in MCC is harder than the original xbox version. This is because the higher framerate increases the agression of the AI.
@@dylanlee5701 Many older games tie certain internal mechanics to the frame rate instead of the systems clock (milliseconds), Halo 2 on the Xbox is limited to 30FPS, but MCC uncaps the frame rate so it runs at 60FPS. This means that those mechanics, such as the AI changing from hiding in cover to attacking the player happen twice as often, because the frame rate is 2x faster.
As someone who has completed every single Halo LASO, including Halo 2, this challenge without save/quitting is the most excruciating thing I could ever imagine doing. Some parts of this game are edging on impossible unless you are the luckiest soul in human history. I pray for any men that attempt this deathless run.
@@Ge01O i mean i have too, you can even check my steam profile. Only one i haven't done is halo 4 but thats just more because i dont like the game over not being able to do it
@@Ge01O My gamertag on Xbox is Buterytissuflap if you’d like to check my achievements on MCC to see. Of course why would you do that though because you wouldn’t wanna be proven wrong.
@@Sparsse I only did Halo 4 cause I couldn’t stand it being the only one not done and I wanted the achievement for completing all LASO campaigns but otherwise it was incredibly boring so you probably made a good call ignoring it.
@@shaunliver399 Melee, plasma granades, and tanks are the only resources you have to kill enemies quickly, you don't regenerate shields unless you melee something, in this level this is not a big problem but there is levels with open space it is practically impossible to survive those without glitching out of the map or using special routes where you don't fight.
Yeah the highest bounty on a song with full combo for osu was paid out very recently and it totaled $3333. A song that's 8 minutes in duration. Not 6 freaking hours. The practice required would be significantly less if you're a top player to have a chance at it. But still very RNG.
@@finesseandstyle the world record on super Mario bros is just 4 minutes and 54 seconds but you wouldn't break it till the day you die unless you spend countless hours on it. The length of the challenge is not a fair comparison to how hard it is. Also yomi yori was a community bounty not a singular person
@@nadavvvv The person who fc'd the map has less than 100 tries on the map. Of course i'm discounting the time it requires to get to that skill level. I'm trying to say that in 6 hours, a competent player has way more room for error than a top player playing an 8 minute map.
Grinding out the LASO achievements isn't too difficult. Attempting LASO without save/quitting is one of the most intense modern torture methods known to man.
The "That's Just... Wrong" skull makes it impossible to stealth :( Enemies pretty much always know where you are even if you break LoS. If it weren't for this single skull, you could use an exploit to have permanent active-camo (usually only 5s from envy skull) and just walk through the sections where you aren't required to eliminate enemies to progress.
The “I’m going to need Johnson in here clearly” at @12:35 made me laugh way too hard. I just remembered how hard it was to smack Johnson around Cairo Station. Warning to anyone who wants a pet Johnson, they are very difficult to walk and may require to be trapped with boxes.
I've never attempted LASO mainly because I like to play for fun, though I do like a challenge which is why a play on Herioc with a selected set of skulls. Also you should try CE LASO which some have considered to be pretty difficult too, since there is a skull called "foreign", which makes it so you can only use human weapons. Truth and Reconciliation is the hardest because you don't have the pistol.
yea Halo CE on laso is pretty hard took me 2 attempts 6 hours each and prolly millions of deaths to get thru truth and reconciliation as well as on two betrayals. Halo 2 is just a dance with the devil thru many death loops lmao
It took my friend and I so long to beat Halo CE on even just legendary, nevermind LASO. We're playing through the series (he's never played the Halo campaigns) and we wanted to play them all on legendary.....we switched it to Normal for Halo 2 lol
I'm honestly okay with everything; The damage, the tanky enemies, the Shields, the restarting, etc... But what turns me off from ever trying, is not having a visible gun. No HUD fine, but if I can't even see my gun I don't want to play the game.
@@rizo1176 the hardest part of truth and reconciliation is the firefight before and after you enter the ship mainly because of the hunters (they are very difficult to kill without the pistol) and the grunts which will just keep throwing plasma grenades because of the catch skull. Also not to mention how wonky the checkpoint saves are in CE.
Halo 2 Sniper Jackals, Halo Reach Elites, and Halo: CE Library would be the gatekeepers I imagine. All of the above have caused me an immense amount of pain in just my Legendary playthroughs, god knows how bad it is on LASO. Edit: Dear god, bots are out of control.
12:15 Watching Charlie savagely beat down one of his own men for shield only to be immediately blown away by a plasma nade is the most serotonin my brain has felt in a while.
For the people like me: Legendary All Skulls On ( LASO ), also known as Mythic, is a fan-created difficulty that requires setting the difficulty to Legendary and activating all skulls Hearing LASO was confusing with trying to work out the acronym, and being a Hitman player didn't help, since in those circles you hear SASO which stands for 'Silent Assassin Suit Only'
@@gameclips5734 I didn't. I always check the page that is currently loaded. I checked the video description box and scrolled down for comments, while the video was playing - then I opened another tab and searched it.
A guy on twitch by the name JerValiN is doing it, and he will complete it. He has gotten to gravemind already. Come checkout the stream and watch for yourself!
As I’ve said before, 5k ain’t gonna cut it. H2 LASO by itself is damn near impossible, and there’s been no shortage of attempts at H2 LASO without envy deathless. No shot. I have 0 doubts.
fun fact: these cutscenes and halo 2 anniversary are from 2014, and game aged greatly, not just the cutscenes but the graphics itself, for a 2014 game if the remaster came out today it would still look great
Back then when Bungie was creating Halo 2 they said they want it to feel like it was a movie and the way 343 did the remaster pretty much is how you would envision Halo 2 back then, and Bungie did a lot of great storytelling in Halo 2 which is way better than Destiny's story since Destiny is mainly a lore focus story, and Halo 2 is one of my favorite game that I can play once in a while just to have a great story experience since not a lot of games now doesn't have the impact that Halo have anymore
@@rifath8152 Well I'm not surprised when your average modern "remaster" is just slapping a higher resolution and maybe some cleaner textures on and calling it a day. Like sure there's exceptions like say Crash or Spyro, but most of the time it's upscaled port jobs getting slapped with a "remastered" label for marketing buzz.
I did the challenge last week without iron skull (the one that resets the mission on death) for all the chief missions. Each checkpoint took me an average of 10 tries, but I did get through it, which means it is possible. If someone gets through with iron skull, I’d be incredibly impressed.
@@DerpEpicFace32onXbox The main things I learned: - The Sputnik skull increases force, so when you punch enemies they turn around allowing you to assassinate them with a follow up melee. - Melee marines to death will refill your shields - You must play around BR & plasma pistol ammo economy - You can conveniently skip a lot of jackal sections by getting out of bounds, but you need to memorize their spawns and prioritize them if not. - Avoid hunters at all costs
Short and simple: LASO makes you play the game in ways you otherwise simply would not. Conquering LASO is the single most difficult pursuit someone can embark on within the Halo series. Available skulls are different across some halo games, so it's not really comparable to say halo x is harder than halo y. There are also pros and cons with playing single vs multiplayer where some skulls are more forgiving with groups than solo runs. I've seen so many comments talking about halo 2, but with the actual LASO playlist starting from halo ce, where's the talk about halo ce? My LASO playlist run got stuck on The Truth And Reconciliation. I've gotten below par time and surpassed par score on all missions across all games. I consider that a measly achievement when considered to the herculean task of completing LASO.
I think it all comes down to the fact that CE originally had no skulls, those were added in Anniversary. Thus, Halo 2 is where the challenge originates from.
Funny, my CE LASO run also got stuck on T&R. It just feels like a difficulty spike after first two levels, where you can just cheese your way out of most engagements.
Halo 2 Legendary by itself is like the Dark Souls of shooters. LASO playlist is like playing Dark Souls but you're not allowed to use any equipment, sprint, or dodge/roll.
At least Dark Souls is fair difficulty though, at least for the most part. Halo 2 on Legendary is just pure bullshit as much as I love the game and all.
Halo 2 was the first game I ever split screen with my dad, later played it with a best friend a ton, he’s now passed, and I said I would do LASO at his funeral because he said I couldn’t all the time, I’m working on it, gravemind is hell. Deathless is unfathomable. Still trying two months after this
I told my friend who is an absolute beast at Halo and wins tons of local tournaments to try to take on criticals challenge for five grand and he just laughed in my face basically
This is why I love Halo. It can be this incredibly accessable arcade shooter... Or the most difficult thing in all of human creation. Iaso is one of both the hardest and most rewarding things in all of gaming.
If you ever hear people talking about how difficult the soulsgames are, show them the true terror of gaming! Nothing beats LASO in difficulty. Maybe Xcom on nightmare ironmode. Sick stuff to play.
I've done all the LASO runs with a friend, and even with the easier co-op Iron skull and watching full guides for every glitch/skip, it was still a fucking nightmare.
For the normies like me who didn't know, LASO means "legendary all skulls on". Essentially hardest possible difficulty (skulls add challenging mechanics)
It's something you need to practice for. Just throwing on LASO with or without envy will destroy you mentally. Instead, turn on every skull on except Iron and Envy so you can get a feel for each unskippable encounter. Also the skulls have no effect on Jackal sniper locations or numbers so jot down or memorize every sniper you find. Record your successful runs. Progress through each individual mission until you find a pattern where you won't die. Keep in mind, there ARE some RNG elements to AI pathing, response, etc. Also, learn to sword cancel/fly. Currently attempting it and stuck on Gravemind. Once I feel like I can do the whole thing flawlessly, I'll switch Iron back on.
So happy I stumbled upon his channel when I did, Charlie puts out some of the most enjoyable content and has one of the most genuine personalities I can’t see another reality where he’s not successful at what he does. Just an appreciation post! Thank you moist god.
If y'all think taking multiple hours for one room is bad, then I don't think you've played LASO, let alone SLASO before. There are some sections that rely so heavily on RNG that they could be anywhere from 30min to 30hr. The hangar in Halo CE: Truth and Reconciliation is a great example. The area with the first tunnel-shield in Tsavo Highway in Halo 3, waiting for Keyes in Halo Reach: The Pillar of Autumn, and the first encounter in Halo 3: ODST also can be this way. Not to mention even if you save scum, you could get a checkpoint that kills you as soon as you spawn...
I still feel stress thinking about truth and reconciliations hangar, and I've only beaten it on legendary! DO NOT BE A DUMBASS LIKE ME, keep the sniper rifle! It may be majorly close quarters but you'll get frequent points to reload your sniper, its the only solution aside from hours of pain to deal with enemies on the high ground.
THIS. People fail to realize that, even on co-op LASO, Gravemind easily takes about 7 hours to finish. SLASO on the other hand can easily take weeks to finish... Especially in MCC with the higher tick rates and framerates messing with the AI.
I just had a ptsd attack after seeing this. that challenge is the literal sleep and mentality killer. It will permanently slay your sanity and willpower. *I know*
I used to be pretty good at halo. Mostly played swat and stuff so I was great at headshots. Beating the game on just legendary back in the day was crazy hard for me tho. I remember starting the first mission with laso after I finally beat legendary. Did not get far. Can't even imagine doing legendary no death let alone laso.
I used to play halo 3 with all the skulls on except 3 with a second controller on so i could respawn i couldnt imagine doing any halo game on legendary without respawns 😫 effort
@@halomerc5423 yeah bro I used to be sweaty haha. I mostly played custom matches with people. The halo 3 era was peek gaming. So many fun interesting game types people made using forge. Really takes me back.
If they hadn't ruined the shotgun in halo 2 it might have been a perfect game. Especially the anniversary edition with the blur cutscenes. Also good f'ing luck with gravemind Charlie if you want to know what real hell is you should continue this laso run.
The room after for Legendary for the first time took me two back to back days of just hours of attempts trying, so I probably put in 10 hours or so and I just can’t even imagine doing Lasso in that room. I was able to beat Combat Evolved on Legendary within less time or about the same, it’s just crazy the difficulty gap between the two games. It’s definitely some sort of torture when you have to try and pull off these extreme specific maneuvers.
When you entered that hanger it took me back to a couple years ago when I did my first and last halo run. That room was one of the toughest levels of the game. I think I finishe Cairo Station in like 10 hours
Charlie just wanted to say thank you for the entertainment over the years also you brought up some bad memories two months ago with a tuv video of the mug shot💀
Today's fact: People can suffer from a psychological disorder called Boanthropy that makes them believe that they are a cow. They try to live their life as a cow.
Oh I've heard about something similar But it's called Internet influencers, they believe they're famous and get offended when a small business doesn't give them a discount because of their Internet clout.
Just threw this on in the background while working on college projects l, and all I can here is the constant "beep beep beep" of the shields being depleted. Honestly the best idea I ever had. Thanks Charlie Lol
Charlie said, and I quote, “this is still the best halo game by the way” the lord himself has spoken, halo 2 is the best halo game, as I have always said, since I played it the first time back in 2011. Yes, I played all the others besides 5 and infinite BEFORE I ever played 2. So I can say, without the nostalgia, that halo 2 is simply the best halo
The magical thing about halo 2 and even 3 was the community at the time. Nothing has come close to matching the hype level of it and it was much more pure in gaming. When going viral off a montage was the real thing. And Red vs Blue. Amazing magical times man!
Wow. You did good on this special "short verison" LASO campaign, Penguinz. I wish I had the skills like you to at least beat it on regular LASO in a decent amount of time.
We live in a world where Halo 2 Segmented Runs are a thing. Those speedruns are literally made to be AS. PERFECT. AS. POSSIBLE. RNG Manipulation Frame Perfect inputs Everything If not even the Halo speedrunners can make a deathless segmented run, then that's a sure fucking sign of how impossible the task is.
I did solo Halo 2 LASO last year. Once I got the hang of fighting and knew about the last checkpoint glitch, LASO wasn’t too bad; however, the Gravemind mission was an absolute nightmare. Gravemind, Truth and Reconciliation, and the Library will give anyone doing LASO ptsd I will say that doing a LASO run was worth the stress. It was such a great feeling knowing I successfully did a LASO run, one of the hardest halo challenges every
The first room on T&R is pure pain. If you don't have the health or ammo going into that part it's easier to restart. After that CE LASO wasn't that bad for me.
@@arfanik9827 idk ive seen charlie pull of some crazy shit within weeks of attempting it, now is he going to do it? no he doesnt have that kind of time as a variety streamer, but i really think he has what it would take
I remember completing Legendary on all misions in cop with my borther, if any of us die (of 1 shoot usally) restart, it took a lot of coordination and effort but was worth at the end :) If anyone want to try my best clue is to use the invisibilty suit, it can get you pass so many shit!
As soon as you stepped into that room, I knew I always feel like the elites in Halo 2 pressure you and require so much pressure to be taken down themselves, in co-op I was actually talking through how to flank and bait-and-switch etc. with my friends, their shield regen often doesn't let you go the safe route when it would otherwise be an option. (That said, I'm not sure I've ever seen them this wild)
MCC Halo 2 LASO is hands down the worst. It doesn't help that it also isn't accurate to how it would be in the original game. Iron wasn't a thing so if you do this solo you wouldn't have to worry about it. In MCC you have to waste time quitting out and loading back in which is awful. 343 decided to be a bunch of pricks and remove the envy skull because apparently having active camo instead of a flashlight would have made things too easy. I got to Regret but the bossfight against him is a huge pain in the ass and it's been a couple years since I've attempted it.
Thinking about it, Iron is a useless skull for this run, isn’t it? The purpose is to do the LASO run deathless, so why would it matter if you restart an entire level from the start after dying? Once you die, you should have to restart from the very beginning of the run, right? Yeah i’m bored honestly
I think it's because of how it unfortunately was so rushed and all the problems they had with it and halo 3 was a perfect mix of difficulty with fairness with enemy spawns and positioning
Halo CE Laso: Pain, Halo 2: Prepare to have PTSD's the rest of your life, Halo 3: Hard but not to bad, and Halo 4: Surprisingly easy, like wtf. For me at least.
I've been trying to con a mate into trying this challenge, the dude still almost daily plays the original versions of the first 3 halos on their respective older consoles. Dude is an absolute monster on legendary but also 31, a normie, doesn't internet and doesn't even understand what a "twitch stream" even is so I'm not having much luck lol.
i actually managed to do Halo 2 LASO after like a full week or two of playing it. Not deathless or in one segment obviously but that was EASILY the hardest thing ive ever done in terms of gaming. I considered myself a gamer but this challenge is INSANELY hard even for people who’ve played every halo. This is only for the most masochistic creatures on the face of the earth i do not recommend it at all.
