I use cotton swabs for earwax, makeup application, makeup removal and for cleaning my piercings. This is going to be a much better option in the long run for the environment like dang.

@@minnarion I did get them, but I wouldn't advise using them for cleaning piercings. I haven't even bothered trying. Both a) because I'm not sure if it's a good idea due to the bacteria that could be present in piercings and b) they definitely ARE a bit too hard for that. I suppose you could use them if you really wanted to, but I think it would be uncomfy and the rubber might snag on the piercing.

You could wrap a muslin face cloth around the tip if you wanted it to feel dry in your ear. I have loads of them for replacing facial wipes and they just go in a hot wash with my towels. Also there would be no worry of anything falling off in your ear x

I love the principle, but I wonder how the net impact of the cotton compares to the net impact of rinsing with water (probably soap too) every time. Both such small amounts of resources used each time, so it would be difficult to estimate. I think the case might enable me to avoid drying it off (on toilet paper or having to keep a towel around- or your jeans X-D), so that's a plus. I feel like I'd get more use out of the Beaty blender, since I tend to stick with a favorite applicator until it falls apart, but since makeup comes with applicators anyway, I wouldn't be reducing my impact by using it. I love the idea of eliminating single-use products, but in this case, I wonder if I'd just be switching from one resource to another.

Ear wax protects the ear drum, so you want some. Problem is that sometimes our ears over-produce. It probably does a good job catching the excess.

I believe if a person bathes/showers with warm water at least 4 days a week or more (depending on their personal physiology), using warm water & whatever body/facial cleanser they use to clean their ears well (I lather up a natural sponge, wash, rinse, & dry them well with a dry washcloth/terrycloth), then LastSwab would likely work just fine to remove any EXCESS wax from the ear. Note the keyword here is "excess" because you DO need some earwax to protect the ear canal, eardrum, & inner ear from bacteria, fungi, & water/fluids, as well as for ASSISTANCE in cleaning (surprise!), lubricating, & protecting the skin of the canal. This is part of why doctors and even the Q-Tip packaging says to never insert a cotton swab into the actual ear canal; there's supposed to be some there, it's risky & can damage the ear, & can even compact earwax potentially leading to hearing loss! Here are some interesting factoids about earwax (aka "cerumen") for you: What kind of earwax you have is genetically determined. A person either has a wet-type or dry-type earwax, determined by a single base change (or SNP) in a specific gene (known as ABCC11 & many other names) on chromosome 16 in every human being. Wet-type cerumen is the dominant trait & comes from inheriting the GG or GA genotype, & dry-type cerumen is the recessive trait & comes from inheriting the AA genotype. Wet-type earwax is also linked to acrid body odor & more armpit sweat, & the dry-type is linked to a milder body odor & less armpit sweat! Our bodies & physiological systems are so intricate & complex. :)

Having no earwax at all is actually bad because the wax keeps outside pollutants and debris from entering the ear and can cause infection. However, too much wax can also cause infection so having the little bit of wax after using this probably won’t be super bad

It's also bad to try to remove ear wax by yourself via a swab. We should only be cleaning the outer part of the ear with a swab. There are ear wax removal drops,over the counter, for people who get too much ear wax build up. The drops help encourage the ear wax to break up and come out naturally. There is also the option of seeing a doctor and a doctor can remove ear wax safely. Also the way the doctors do it I'm pretty sure are done with items that get reused and can be cleaned/sterilized from when I had it done.

I love using the pointed tip for cleaning eyeliner, great for that cat eye look 😺 & the round tip I usually use it to blend the pencil on the front of my eyebrows so it won't look too square

The pointed tip is mostly for applying eye makeup to directly above your lashes . Makeup artists use disposable sharp cotton swabs for this constantly. I was hoping to see this, because I'm wondering if the makeup will come off the swab with washing, or if it will stain it (or just stay embedded forever). Neither of those sounds appealing to me!

I wonder if like, when it’s time to throw the swab away/recycle it (if it can be) if you could possibly just purchase a replacement swab and not a case? Since I feel like the case will last much longer since there’s no “use limit”, you know?

Was thinking the same thing. Doesn't strike me as such a "green" product at all, they are just replacing a single use plastic with a 1000 use plastic, which is a step the right direction but its still disposable. They only sell the swab witht the case, why not provide refills for the swab part only? Why not make the stick out of bamboo or a similar material while you're at it? I don't see any mention of proper disposing of the product at the end of life either... these things unfortunately just lead me to see this product as either a) poorly executed or even worse b) just riding the "green fad" and not really born out of a true concern for the environment

Ive always liked to used cotton swabs for my makeup application on the lower eyelid. Do you think this would work well to apply some cream eyeshadow or smudge eyeliner?

Bri P Honestly, I’ve only used it to correct smudges and such. I haven’t tried applying makeup with it. It could smudge eyeliner. But I don’t know how the application of a cream eyeshadow would go. Sorry!

I guess cotton swab alternative. I think it's because they can't say "a reusable Q-tip" because that's a specific brand, but Q-tip communicates more than cotton swab does.

Qtips now have a compostable option! I get them at my local Walmart because I live in a small town & that’s the only option, but I bet they have them lots of other places in larger cities. :)

I have a last swab but I can't use oil on my eye area mid makeup application for mistakes! That's would be insane, it would take off all layers and make application over the bald spot weird. I want the last swab to work, but in all honesty, I just wrap a third of a tissue square around the sharp tip of a regular cotton swab. I lick that part of the tissue tip to make the cotton tighter, a firmer brush and give it some grabbing moisture. This lets me use each swab over and over for a few days with a fresh tissue wrap. I also cut my swabs in half when I refill my beauty drawer. This allows me to throw out a half tip, which I can use over multiple applications without too much bacterial growth. I throw out a half stick more often than a 1/3. But ears still need a whole stick for length, they just get used less than a beauty corrector.

LifeLostSoul No, it said to not put it in the dishwasher. And the middle part is nylon, so I’m assuming you can’t boil it. Hope that helps!

I’m interested in these, but I don’t think it will dry my ears or clean out the earwax well tbh. Silicone just doesn’t work the same as cotton :/ I wonder if I can compost them or something

It’s not for everyone! That’s the one downside with these. You can find cotton swabs made from bamboo with cotton. You can compost them!

Cori Ana Strell That’s tough. I think the basic version would be best because the beauty version wouldn’t work for ears. But I don’t know how well the bumps on the basic swab would work for makeup. It’s tricky. I know that’s not a super decisive answer, but I just don’t know how well one would work for both. 😊 Thanks for watching!

After watching my wife doing her make up for so long I know not to use oil ontop of make up. If you put oil ontop it will dissolve the make up not only where you want to clean up but it will dissolve anything else you're wearing that's around that area. Plus silicone is not the best for all skin as some people are allergic, also I can imagine without using oil it will drag on the skin causing wrinkles etc. Just doesn't make sense. Also, you're not meant to use cotton swabs to clean your ears.

Hi! As a skincare enthusiast, totally agree with your point about not using oil on makeup since it will dissolve the makeup. However, I think that for people who aren't allergic, this could be very helpful to remove mistakes or makeup close to the eyes? I know that my mom uses her eyeliner on her waterline which is why she uses cotton swabs so I actually think this could be a good idea. I do wonder if this product could work with micellar water though. I was interested in the regular swab since my ears can get itchy or filled with water but I wonder if this product would be effective for those reasons...

People don't need to remove earwax from our ears. Our body does that all on it's on. Using q-tips can push the wax further inside our ears.

I feel like the nobs would actually work for all the different kind of ear waxes. I know Asians have a very different ear wax to Caucasian people. And cotton swaps don't work on them cleaning their ear

Hey, that is definitely a thing! If you use cloth diapers and/or cloth menstrual pads, it's not a far stretch. For Google purposes, it's usually called "family cloth." I've used it for #1 for ages, (only for myself...not my family), and wash with my pads/toddler diapers. 😊♥️ If you are using it as a family, and wanted to keep it separate, you'd just have different colors for different family members. =)

menstrual cup? (been using it for 7 years now, I love it. It has a learning curve - mine took three cycles - and some people need to try several cups to get the one that will work for them, but once everything is figured out- it's life changing...)

This wouldn’t work for people who pick their nose with q tips. You would hafta wash it multiple times in a row. You need multiple qtips to pick your nose with.

I use a super sustainable object to pick my nose-my finger! It washes clean and never wears out... 😁

The most-basic piece of information that you could have provided the viewer/user-which you did NOT provide-is to show, slowly and clearly, how to actually open the plastic box. Two friends and I tried to open the plastic box. We tried for almost 20 minutes, and none of us could figure out how to do it. As of right now, the plastic box remains unopened.
