I remember when I was around 13-15, I said something like: "I don't mind gay people, just as long that they stay away from me". At the time I didn't know anyone who was gay. Then I hit 16 and started to get to know people who were part of the lgbtq community. I realised how horrible my previous opinions were and changed my mind. Happy Pride Month everyone!
In defense of you, and all our younger selves, that's not an uncommon phase to go through before your brain fully develops. What matters is that you learned that it's impossible to judge an entire group based on the actions of a handful. The world needs more people who can do that.

Imagine being straight and anytime you hear something gay you think of our sex lives, I can count on 0 hands how often I worry about other adults sex lives
You can't see it? You people identify as your sexuality when other people identify as who they are. Like I identify as a lumberjack because that is my profession. Imagine being upset by something that has existed for over 50 years, has been recognized by the government for almost 30 years, that you were never forced to attend, and that never impacted you in any meaningful way until you decided to be upset by it.

There's one response to anti-pride reactions I absolutely loved. On Reddit, r/prequelmemes made their icon rainbow for Pride. In response to the inevitable homophobia and transphobia they received, they decided to make the rainbow logo permanent. It's been years and the rainbow has never left the subreddit. That's how you respond to hate; make the bigots look at it or leave
Over here in spokane we have had multiple pride side walks vandalized like that, bow there are cameras and people have been charged with hate crimes as a result.

33:35 I grew up around nudists. I know for a fact I was safer surrounded by the "flopping" than the small, Christian town we moved to. I know this because when we left the old community-- where I'd never had any problems-- for the new, I was stalked and attacked by a pedophile and the police ignored the entire thing (despite the attacker having a 30+ year record of molesting children, I later found out). True Freedom means you'll always be keenly aware of who the majority is. Nothing in the Constitution guarantees any pacification of the minority. The minority may just FEEL like the minority.
I hate how many people want us to 'keep pride safe for kids' and have been screaming at us like we're a bunch of degenerates. I was told that older LGBTQ+ people like me (early 30s) aren't who pride is for, and it's entirely meant for LGBTQ+ kids. First of all; no, and second of all; I grew up at a time when we didn't have any support. Pride is for us. You don't hear people scream about how Mardi Gras or Saint Patrick's Day stuff needs to be safe for kids.
There are also age appropriate Pride events held at different times and places. The parades during the day are for all ages. The late night parties are for mature crowds. Regardless, kids would still be safer at Pride than they would be at church.
I want Pride to be safe and comfortable for kids, but for me, that means not subjecting them to harassment, violence, overt sex acts, or directly-in-your-face nudity; it does not mean "protecting" them from people in drag, fursuits, pup masks, bodices, or collars.
The "save the children" garbage has always happened when in reality nobody is at any harm and it doesn't matter if "kids" see any of it. Their brains won't explode
Gotta love how when we're talking about straight relationships the focus on two people getting closer together, sharing special moments, their feelings deepen as they become more intimate and then finally the man proposes, they get married and start a family. When we're talking about LGBT relationships, to people like Lauren Chen, it's just "Gay Sex". Which, frankly, is a perfect demonstration about why PRIDE will continue.
When I was a kid in the '80s and '90s the vacation spots & tourist traps & carnivals & malls had merchandise that were sex jokes & bikini babe posters. Sexuality was not supremely taboo like these very online right wingers imagine the world was or should be.
It's literally just a double standard for sexuality. Only queer sexuality is inherently dangerous to children. True story, the "muh parental rights" people tend to blue-screen when you point out exactly this, because they either don't truly believe in parental rights but know they can't admit it, or they genuinely haven't thought through their "parental rights" stance, and don't realize that parents with the opposing worldview feel as strongly about their values and parenting philosophy as they do.
Whether polyamory is a part of pride is an interesting question. I mean, a lot of LGBTQIA+ people are poly, so in that sense, yes. I don't think being poly alone necessarily makes you part of the LGBTQIA+ movement. However, as both groups tend to challenge cisheteronormative patriarchal relationships, I think the two groups make great allies to one another.
I'd say that being polyamorous isn't *technically* the same as having a sexual or gender orientation, but poly people still face discrimination and hostility from the mainstream society. Certain cishet poly people arguably jerking themselves off a bit too much for being special snowflakes is small taters compared to the grave external threat we all face at the hands of fundies and fascists, so it behooves us to all stick together.

It's about enforcing patriarchy first and foremost. An asexual woman is a woman who won't submit to the sexual desires of men, and an asexual man contradicts the idea that men are not sex-crazed werebeasts who are unaccountable in the presence of a woman. Both are scary to people who really want men to be unaccountable and women to have no agency.

@@dimanthehedghog I fundamentally disagree with everything you said. monogamy and polyamory are not intrinsic qualities of a person they are choices. Someone can be poly then later change to be mono and vic versa. And as I already stated, discrimination is not a qualifier or point in your favor. Depending on where you live being an atheist will also get you harassment and ire, but atheists are not part of the LGBTQ+ umbrella.

Weird observation but I remember years ago Chen’s home decor at least reflected a semblance of having a personality. She had a House Martel flag in the background in some of her videos (which I actually kinda thought was sick) Now it’s the most basic trad girl aesthetic similar to Abigail Shapiro. Weird.
It's not something people really think about because, and I'm sorta guessing but I think it's an educated guess, most polyam people are otherwise queer. The only heterosexual polyam stereotype I can think of is hippies, but that's always accompanied by the idea of them "growing out of it".
